The purpose of the NIH Blueprint Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-SPAN) Award is to support a defined pathway across career stages for outstanding graduate students who are from backgrounds that are nationally underrepresented in neuroscience research. This two-phase award will facilitate completion of the doctoral dissertation and transition of talented graduate students to strong neuroscience research Postdoctoral positions, and will provide career development opportunities relevant to their long-term career goal of becoming independent neuroscience researchers.

The purpose of this individual postdoctoral research training fellowship is to enhance the research training of promising postdoctoral candidates who have the potential to become productive, independent investigators in health services research, with a research interest in areas and priorities relevant to the mission of AHRQ.

BWF's Career Awards at the Scientific Interface provide $500,000 to bridge advanced postdoctoral training and the first three years of faculty service. These awards are intended to foster the early career development of researchers who have transitioned or are transitioning from undergraduate and/or graduate work in the physical/mathematical/computational sciences or engineering into postdoctoral work in the biological sciences, and who are dedicated to pursuing a career in academic research. These awards are open to U.S. and Canadian citizens or permanent residents as well as to U.S. temporary residents.

Research!America is pleased to announce an exciting new program to introduce and engage early-career scientists in research advocacy and science policy. The 2013 Research!America Advocacy Academy is a unique opportunity for postdoctoral fellows in the health and biomedical sciences to learn about how to best incorporate advocacy and effective communications into their role as a scientist. The 2013 class of up to 12 Research!America advocates will participate in a two-day Washington, DC, program from September 11-12, 2013. Participants will learn about the federal budget and appropriations process, tools for effective science communication and outreach as well as how to engage with elected representatives on scientific and research issues. The program includes visiting Capitol Hill to meet with policy makers and congressional staff members, providing participants with a first-hand experience advocating for health research. Rounding out this unique Washington experience, participants will attend Research!America's National Health Research Forum where top leaders in government, industry, academia and patient organizations engage in moderated conversations on issues of importance to the research ecosystem. Upon completion of the program, participants will become Science Advocates for Research!America. Advocates will remain engaged with Research!America staff, receive ongoing action alerts and learn about ways to involve their home institution's research community in effective science advocacy. All travel expenses (transportation, lodging and meals) will be provided and arranged by Research!America through an educational grant provided by Pfizer. This year's program is limited to 12 exceptional postdoctoral researchers with a dedicated interest in becoming active advocates for science.

The objective of the NIH Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) is to help outstanding postdoctoral researchers with a research and/or clinical doctorate degree complete needed, mentored career develoment and transition in a timely manner to independent, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions (see Eligible Individuals for additional detail). The K99/R00 award is intended to foster the development of a creative, independent research program that will be competitive for subsequent independent funding and that will help advance the mission of the NIH. Applicants must have no more than 4 years of postdoctoral research experience at the time of the initial or the subsequent resubmission or revision application. The K99/R00 award is intended for individuals with significant research experience, but who require at least 12 months of mentored research training and career development (K99 phase) before transitioning to the R00 award phase of the program. Consequently, the strongest applicants will require, and will propose, a well-conceived plan for 1-2 years of substantive mentored research training and career development that will help them become competitive candidates for tenure-track faculty positions and prepare them to launch robust, independent research programs. An individual who cannot provide a compelling rationale for at least one year of additional mentored research training at the time of award is not a strong candidate for this award.

The purpose of the NIH Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) program is to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented, NIH-supported, independent investigators. This program is designed to facilitate a timely transition of outstanding postdoctoral researchers from mentored, postdoctoral research positions to independent, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions, and to provide independent NIH research support during the transition that will help these individuals launch competitive, independent research careers. 

The purpose of the Kirschstein-NRSA postdoctoral fellowship is to enhance the research training of promising postdoctoral candidates who have the potential to become productive, independent investigators in scientific health-related research fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers.

Pathway to Leadership Grants support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows in the first five years of their fellowship at the start of the grant term, who have not already secured a full-time tenure track assistant professor position (or equivalent). The grants provide up to five years of support in two phases. The initial mentored phase lasts up to two years, during which time recipients are expected to work closely with their mentor(s) to develop their research. During the subsequent three years, recipients are expected to secure independent research positions.

The purpose of the NIMH Mentored Career Development Award to Build Research Capacity in Global Mental Health is to provide support and "protected time" (three to five years) for an intensive, supervised career development experience that will facilitate the entry of early career investigators into the field of global mental health research and lead to research independence. The NIMH invites applications from advanced postdoctoral and/or recently appointed early research scientists (usually with a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree and no more than six years of postdoctoral research experience at the time of application) in biomedical, behavioral, or clinical sciences who are pursuing global mental health research careers in areas supported by the NIMH. After the first year of the award, award recipients must spend at least four months per year in-country conducting research at research sites or institutions in World Bank defined low- or middle-income countries (LMICs).

The purpose of the NIH Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) program is to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented, NIH-supported, independent investigators. This program is designed to facilitate a timely transition of outstanding postdoctoral researchers with a research and/or clinical doctorate degree from mentored, postdoctoral research positions to independent, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions. The program will provide independent NIH research support during this transition in order to help awardees to launch competitive, independent research careers. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed specifically for applicants proposing to lead basic science experimental studies involving humans, referred to in NOT-OD-18-212 as prospective basic science studies involving human participants. These studies fall within the NIH definition of a clinical trial and also meet the definition of basic research. Types of studies that should submit under this FOA include studies that prospectively assign human participants to conditions (i.e., experimentally manipulate independent variables) and that assess biomedical or behavioral outcomes in humans for the purpose of understanding the fundamental aspects of phenomena without specific application towards processes or products in mind. Studies conducted with specific applications toward processes or products in mind should submit under the companion PA-18-397.

The Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) offers Postdoctoral Research Fellowships to encourage independence early in the Fellow's career through supporting his or her research and training goals. The research and training plan of each Fellowship must address important scientific questions within the scope of the SBE Directorate and the specific guidelines in this solicitation. The SPRF program offers two tracks: (I) Fundamental Research in the SBE Sciences (SPRF-FR) and (II) Broadening Participation in the SBE Sciences (SPRF-BP). The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support eligible postdoctoral scientists maintain high productivity in an NIAID-funded laboratory while engaging in primary caregiver responsibilities. This program will provide administrative supplements to existing NIAID research grants to hire a full-time or part-time laboratory technician to work with the postdoctoral scientist on their project. Administrative supplements must support work within the scope of the original project.

Through the TRDRP Postdoctoral Fellowship Award program, three-year grants of up to $180,000 will be awarded in support of Postdoctoral researchers training under a designated mentor in one or more of the following research areas: cancer prevention, treatment, and/or biology.

The purpose of the NIAID Physician-Scientist Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) program is to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented independent physician-scientists. This program is designed to facilitate a timely transition of outstanding postdoctoral researchers with a clinical doctorate degree from mentored, postdoctoral research positions to independent, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions. The program will provide independent NIAID research support during this transition to help awardees launch competitive, independent research careers in biomedical fields and thereby help to address the national physician-scientist workforce shortage.

The purpose of the NIAID Physician-Scientist Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) program is to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented independent physician-scientists. This program is designed to facilitate a timely transition of outstanding postdoctoral researchers with a clinical doctorate degree from mentored, postdoctoral research positions to independent, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions. The program will provide independent NIAID research support during this transition to help awardees launch competitive, independent research careers in biomedical fields and thereby help to address the national physician-scientist workforce shortage.

The Mentored Career Transition Award for NIMH Intramural Fellows (K22) is a two-phase, mentored career development award program that is intended to facilitate a timely transition of qualified postdoctoral fellows in the NIMH Division of Intramural Programs (DIRP) from intramural postdoctoral research positions to extramural, academic tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions at eligible U.S. institutions. Both the intramural and extramural phases will be mentored, and the award will provide research support during the extramural phase to help awardees launch competitive, independent research programs. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed specifically for applicants proposing research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or an ancillary study to a clinical trial. Applicants to this FOA are permitted to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor. Applicants proposing a clinical trial or an ancillary study to an ongoing clinical trial as lead investigator should apply to the companion FOA (PAR-18-613).

This TRI RFA is soliciting applications for its Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. Postdoctoral Fellowships will be competitively awarded in any laboratory in the U.S. conducting biomedical/biotechnological research aligned with TRI's mission and goals (Section A). Applications will be screened for compliance and undergo a scientific/technical peer-review by an external peer-review committee consisting of a number of eminent scientists that are familiar with space biomedical/biotechnological research. Relevance to TRI's and NASA's programmatic needs and goals will also be evaluated by TRI management. Selections will be performed by the TRI Selection Official. The award is for two years of funding with an optional, competitively awarded third year of funding that may be available depending on existing TRI resources. Requests for a third year of funding will take into account the awardee's performance during the first two years of funding and be evaluated via external peer-review and also by TRI's Executive Council (TRIEC). All researchers, regardless of support by NASA or TRI, can serve as Mentors for this competitive funding.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to find a cure for and address challenges faced by those affected by MS. To that end, the society is accepting applications for its Pilot Grant Program. The program funds high-risk pilot grants in support of novel ideas that may serve to advance its mission of stopping MS progression, restoring function, and improving quality of life for those with MS. The program supports fundamental as well as applied studies, both non-clinical or clinical in nature, including projects in patient management, care, and rehabilitation. One-year grants of up to $44,000 will be awarded to test innovative, cutting-edge ideas or untested methods, and to gather sufficient preliminary data that can be used to apply for longer-term funding. Researchers who have completed their postdoctoral training are invited to apply. Individuals who are currently postdoctoral fellows or the equivalent, or who are graduate/medical students are not eligible for support under this program. Pre-applications must be received no later than January 8, 2018.
