The mission of the Milstein Medical Asian American Partnership Foundation is to improve world health by developing mutually beneficial partnerships between the United States and China, as well as greater Asia. To that end, the foundation is inviting applications from mainland China scholars and investigators for its Fellowship Award in Translational Medicine. The aim of the program is to build enduring partnership between the U.S. and Asia through the training of future Chinese academic leaders and to encourage long-term collaborations between the two regions.

The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) requests applications for the NIAMS Resource-based Centers Program (P30) for research areas within its mission in musculoskeletal biology and medicine. The Resource-based Centers will provide critical research infrastructure, shared facilities, services, and/or resources to groups of investigators conducting research on musculoskeletal biology and medicine, enabling them to conduct their independently-funded individual and/or collaborative research projects more efficiently and/or more effectively, with the broad overall goal of accelerating, enriching, and enhancing the effectiveness of ongoing basic, translational, and clinical research and promoting new research within the NIAMS mission.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) participating Institutes and Centers, in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), seeks highly meritorious clinical trial applications proposing to explore and enable the development of safe and effective regenerative medicine (RM) interventions using adult stem cells. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), issued as part of the Regenerative medicine Innovation Project (RMIP), represents one step in fulfilling a statutory provision set forth in the 21st Century Cures Act. Applications submitted in response to this bi-phasic, milestone-driven cooperative agreement FOA are expected to propose highly innovative projects with a focus on solutions to widely-recognized issues in the development of safe and effective RM therapies. Of particular interest are projects using RM products that have undergone appropriate product development and pre-clinical studies and have demonstrated readiness to advance into clinical trials. This FOA seeks Phase I and beyond clinical trial applications that present a strong scientific rationale for the proposed clinical trial and a comprehensive scientific and operational plan. Trials must be relevant to the research mission of one or more participating NIH Institutes and Centers and meet the NIH definition of a clinical trial (see NOT-OD-15-015). Applications are expected to include plans for project management, participant recruitment and retention, performance milestones, conduct of the trial, and dissemination of results. Before the time of award and if applicable, successful applicants must obtain an Investigational New Drug (IND) authorization or Investigational New Device Exemption (IDE) approval to administer the product to humans.

Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine Travel Awards SFRBM's Outreach Committee are making Travel Awards available to students and postdoctoral fellows who wish to attend SFRBM 2013. Ten (10) awards at $500 each will be presented to postdoc and student SFRBM members in the US. An additional ten (10) awards at $1,000 each will be given by SFRBM to postdoc or student SFRBM members outside the United States -- those eligible include members from Canada, Latin and South America as well as all students and postdocs outside SFRR Americas.

The scope of NLM's interest in the research domain of informatics is broad and interdisciplinary, developing methods and approaches in biomedical computing, data science and related information fields for application domains of health and bioMedicine, including health care delivery, basic biomedical research, clinical and translational research, precision Medicine, public health, biosurveillance, health information management in disasters, and similar areas. NLM defines biomedical informatics as the science of optimal representation, organization, management, integration and presentation of information relevant to human health and biology, for purposes of learning, sharing and use.

The award honors individuals who have made a lifelong commitment to the health and well-being of adolescents, who have exhibited leadership in the field, made significant contributions to the advancement of the field, or has inspired others through their work, research, education or leadership. Membership in the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine is not a requirement for eligibility to be considered for this award.

The Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine Visiting Professorship in Adolescent Research was established in 1995 with the first award being given for 1995. The intent of this award was to provide an educational experience in Adolescent Research for a group of health care providers and researchers who might not otherwise have the opportunity to benefit from the professor's expertise

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center offers undergraduates the chance to explore clinical and basic science research in laboratories in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The primary goal is to provide students with a foundation for making career choices in the biomedical sciences. Students have the opportunity to work with one of more than 700 faculty members at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, many of whom have active research programs that cover all areas of pediatric Medicine, including the study of developmental biology, congenital disorders, genetic diseases, cancer, cardiology, neurology and immunology.

This FOA encourages Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions and organizations proposing research aimed at characterizing animal stem cells and improving existing, and creating new, animal models for human disease conditions.The intent of this initiative is to facilitate the use of stem cell-based therapies for regenerative medicine. The goal of a Bioengineering Research Partnership (BRP) is to drive the development and speed the adoption of promising tools and technologies that can address important biomedical problems for which insufficient or no solutions exist.  The use of engineering principles is encouraged to establish these tools and technologies as robust, well-characterized solutions that fulfill an unmet need. A synergistic partnership between engineering and the life, physical, and computational sciences is also encouraged, where the unique skills of each discipline combine to enhance our understanding of life science processes or the practice of medicine. The purpose of this FOA is to encourage BRP applications that: 1) establish a robust engineering solution to a problem in biomedical research or the practice of medicine; 2) develop a strategic alliance of multidisciplinary partners based on a well-defined leadership plan; and 3) realize a specific endpoint within 5-10 years based on a detailed plan with a timeline and quantitative milestones.

The Fiscal Year 2015 (FY15) Joint Program Committee 8/Clinical and Rehabilitative Medicine Research Program (JPC-8/CRMRP) Extremity Regeneration Technology/Therapeutic Development Award (ERTTDA) is intended to support the translation of promising preclinical findings into products focused on extremity regeneration. The focus is on bone and soft tissue reconstruction, limb and tissue salvage technologies, and regenerative Medicine technologies for the treatment of trauma-induced damage.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) supports the development of PET radioligands that identify proteinopathies or pathological processes associated with the human biology of Alzheimer's disease related dementias (ADRDs). Activities supported under this FOA include, but are not limited to the in vitro screening of existing ligands against human ADRD brain tissue, medicinal chemistry support for development of new compounds and improvement of existing ligand specificity and selectivity, initial screening of ligands in appropriate animal models, and radioligand formulation and first-in-human testing. The Center without Walls should encompass research that will move promising ligands through in vitro and in vivo optimization to first-in-human studies. Applications must include an administrative core, a medicinal chemistry core, a clinical core, a scientific governance structure, and a minimum of two research projects with milestone plans that address workflows for screening of existing and newly derived ligands against human ADRD tissue and appropriate animal models. Synergy must be evident among Center research projects and cores, such that successful completion of the aims could not be accomplished without the Center structure. This FOA is in response to the Alzheimer's Disease Related Dementias (ADRD) challenges outlined in the 2016 update to the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites U54 Cooperative Agreement applications aiming to establish multi-component Alzheimer Centers for the Discovery of New Medicines. The overarching purpose of this Centers program is to improve, diversify and reinvigorate the Alzheimer's disease (AD) drug development pipeline by accelerating the characterization and experimental validation of next generation therapeutic targets and integrating the targets into drug discovery campaigns. In addition, this program aims to de-risk potential therapeutics to the point that industry will invest in them, accelerating the delivery of new drugs to AD patients. To this end, the funded Centers will 1) design, develop and disseminate tools that support target enabling packages (TEPs) for the experimental validation of novel, next generation therapeutic targets, including those emanating from the NIA-funded, target discovery programs such as AMP-AD, and 2) initiate early stage drug discovery campaigns against the enabled targets.

Biomedical informatics and data science draw upon many fields, including mathematics, statistics, information science, computer science and engineering, and social/behavioral sciences. NLM defines biomedical informatics as the science of optimal representation, organization, management, integration and presentation of information relevant to human health and biology. NIH defines data science as the interdisciplinary field of inquiry in which quantitative and analytical approaches, processes, and systems are developed and used to extract knowledge and insights from increasingly large and/or complex sets of data.

Supported by the NIH Common Fund (Common Fund) Science of Behavior Change (SOBC) Program, this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits competitive revision (formerly known as a competitive supplement) applications to NIH-supported clinical trials awarded as research project R34 grants. The goal of the SOBC Program is to advance a mechanisms-focused, experimental medicine approach to behavior change research. Funded projects in the SOBC Research Network (https://commonfund.nih.gov/behaviorchange/fundedresearch) have developed experimental manipulations, assays, and/or measures (hereafter referred to as assays for brevity) to support an experimental medicine approach to behavior change research. The SOBC Measures Repository is accessible from the SOBC Research Network Open Science Framework (OSF) page at https://osf.io/zp7b4. The goal of this FOA is to accelerate the adaptation, validation, and translation of SOBC Research Network assays for use in ongoing clinical trials. This FOA calls for the integration of SOBC Research Network assays into active NIH-supported clinical trials of drugs, devices, procedures, or behavior modifications. As such, the active NIH-supported clinical trial used to respond to this FOA does not have to be a behavior change trial or identify behavior change as a primary outcome. The integration of SOBC Research Network assays into ongoing clinical trials will accelerate the development of interventions and experimental manipulations that have been shown to engage specific mechanisms of behavior change and the development of assays that verify engagement of those behavior change targets.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide opportunities for eligible small business concerns (SBCs) to submit STTR grant applications to develop interactive digital media science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) resources that address student career choice and health and medicine topics for: (1) pre-kindergarten to grade 12 (P-12) students and pre- and in-service teachers ("Teachers") or (2) Informal science education (ISE), i.e., outside the classroom, audiences. Interactive digital media (IDM) are defined as products and services on digital computer-based systems which respond to the user's actions by presenting content such as text, moving image, animation, video, audio, and video games. There is a large body of evidence that IDM technology has the potential to support learning in a variety of contexts from primary and secondary schools, to universities, adult education and workplace training. IDM is widely used to train, educate, and encourage behavioral changes in a virtual world format where progressive learning, feedback on success and user control are combined into an interactive and engaging experience. It is anticipated that this STTR FOA will facilitate the translation of new or existing health and medicine-based, P-12 STEM curricula and museum exhibits into educational Interactive Digital Media STEM (IDM STEM) resources that will provide a hands-on, inquiry-based and learning-by-doing experience for students, teachers and the community.

The Scleroderma Foundation seeks applications from established investigators both inside and outside the field of scleroderma research for pilot studies designed to obtain preliminary data regarding a highly innovative and/or highly relevant theme related to the disease. The grant is intended to support pilot research likely to lead to more substantial research project grants from federal or non-federal sources. Applications may be submitted by U.S. nonprofit organizations, public and private, including universities, colleges, hospitals, and laboratories. Foreign organizations and institutions are eligible to apply as well. Applicants must have a doctorate degree in medicine, osteopathy, veterinary medicine, or one of the sciences; have completed a postdoctoral fellowship; and have been principal investigator on grants from the Scleroderma Foundation or other national, private, or government agencies in the past. Applicants may request up to $75,000 per year for up to two years.

In 1994 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) collaborated with a broad range of partners in clinical medicine and public health to develop an emerging infections strategy in response to the recommendations issued by the Institute of medicine (IOM) in its 1993 report, “Emerging Infections: Microbial Threats to Health in the United States.” Leading this strategy was the CDC Office of Infectious Diseases (OID)/National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID). One goal was to strengthen local, state, and federal public health infrastructures to support surveillance and implement prevention and control programs. The implementation strategy for this goal was to: 1) provide state-of-the-art training in diagnostic evaluation and testing for medical laboratory personnel to ensure the diagnosis and surveillance of emerging infections; and 2) establish a public health laboratory fellowship in infectious diseases that will train medical microbiologists in public health approaches to diagnosis and molecular epidemiology.
