This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant applications for funding to perform research leading to the development of novel and supportive technologies for the improvement of cell replacement interventions using novel methods, biomaterials and devices for type 1 diabetes (T1D) treatment.

The vision for the Human BioMolecular Atlas Program (HuBMAP) is to catalyze development of a framework for mapping of the human body at high resolution to transform our understanding of tissue organization and function. This will be achieved by: Accelerating the development of the next generation of tools and techniques for constructing high resolution spatial tissue maps that quantify multiple types of biomolecules either sequentially or simultaneously; Generating foundational 3D tissue maps using validated high-content, high-throughput imaging and omics assays; Establishing an open data platform that will develop novel approaches to integrating, visualizing and modelling imaging and omics data to build multi-dimensional maps, and making data rapidly findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable by the global research community; Coordinating and collaborating with other funding agencies, programs, and the biomedical research community to build the framework and tools for mapping the human body; Supporting pilot projects that demonstrate the value of the resources developed by the program to study individual variation and tissue changes across the lifespan and the health-disease continuum. This program is funded through the NIH Common Fund as a short-term, goal-driven strategic investment, with deliverables intended to catalyze research across multiple biomedical research disciplines. The NIH Common Fund supports cross-cutting programs that are expected to have exceptionally high impact. All Common Fund initiatives invite investigators to develop bold, innovative, and often risky approaches to address problems that may seem intractable or to seize new opportunities that offer the potential for rapid progress.

Purpose The purpose of this FOA is to support a network to enhance collaborations across NIA's 6 centers programs. These collaborations are intended to leverage NIA's substantial investments by fostering and sustaining the development of novel interdisciplinary efforts in aging research. This opportunity will provide resources to build additional infrastructure and establish specific collaborative activities that could include, but are not limited to, information and data exchange, meetings and conferences, pilot studies, research opportunities for early investigators, visiting scholar programs, dissemination, and other collaborative efforts. The successful awardee will involve all 6 centers programs. Background The National Institute on Aging supports 6 research centers programs: Alzheimer's Disease Centers Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Centers (OAICs) Nathan Shock Centers of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research (RCMARs) Edward R. Roybal Centers for Translation Research in the Behavioral and Social Sciences of Aging Centers on the Demography and Economics of Aging These programs, comprised of over 80 individual centers across the US, are highly productive hubs of research activity that are advancing the science of aging in their individual areas of focus. As advances in one area have the potential to address obstacles to progress in another area, numerous opportunities exist for collaborations across different centers programs. However, these opportunities have been realized to only a limited degree to date.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for a CHR Data Processing, Analysis and Coordination Center (DPACC) to support and extend the work of the proposed Clinical High Risk for Psychosis Research Network to be funded under RFA-MH-20-340 . The DPACC will provide oversight and coordination of two parallel lines of inquiry: 1) The aggregation of extant CHR-related data sets and subsequent secondary analyses for refinement of multi-modal biomarkers and development of biomarker algorithms that predict individual clinical trajectory and outcomes and 2) The management, direction, and overall coordination, including data processing and analysis, for a new multi-site network(s) focused on dissecting the heterogeneity of the CHR syndrome. Toward achieving the first goal, the DPACC - in conjunction with NIMH and external working groups - will identify appropriate extant CHR data sets, aggregate and harmonize the data through development of a standardized processing and analysis pipeline for each data type, upload the data to the NIMH Data Archive (NDA), use computational techniques to identify and validate biomarker algorithms and/or risk calculators that predict the clinical trajectories and outcomes for individual patients, and establish a curated public data set that will serve as a resource for the research community.

The DOE SC program in Biological and Environmental Research (BER), hereby announces its interest in receiving applications for research in developing computational approaches that can integrate large, disparate data types from multiple and heterogeneous sources, such as those used in the Genomic Science program (GSP) (http://genomicscience.energy.gov). Research supported by awards resulting from this FOA will promote human understanding of the natural world through analysis of high-throughput biological systems data. BER has an ongoing mission of improving translation from the molecular to cellular realm within scientific disciplines supported by DOE.

These problems and paradoxes phrased as questions are not intended to represent the full range of NCI's priorities in multiple myeloma research. Rather, they are meant to challenge cancer researchers to think about and elucidate specific problems in key areas of multiple myeloma and disparities research that are deemed important but have not received sufficient attention. The FOA includes six Multiple Myeloma PQs that represent diverse fields relevant to multiple myeloma disparities research, but all are framed to inspire interested scientists to conceive new approaches and/or feasible solutions. Each research project (application) proposed in response to this FOA must be focused on addressing one particular research problem defined by one specific MMD PQ selected from the list. Projects proposed to address specific MMD PQs may use strategies that incorporate ideas and approaches from multiple disciplines, as appropriate. Transdisciplinary projects are encouraged as long as they serve the scientific focus of the specific PQ chosen.

The prevalence of obesity is increasing in people with HIV (PWH), contributing to multiple complications associated with this condition. There is mounting evidence that there are unique mechanisms contributing to the development of obesity in PWH versus people without HIV. Furthermore, the biology of the adipocytes might be altered in overweight or obese PWH versus overweight or obese people without HIV. This FOA seeks applications to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of how HIV and antiretroviral drugs used for therapy or pre-exposure prophylaxis contribute to the development of obesity and alter adipocyte and adipose tissue function as well as the effects of these processes on metabolic and physiological processes within the mission of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support innovative approaches to identifying, understanding, and developing strategies for overcoming barriers to the adoption, adaptation, integration, scale-up and sustainability of evidence-based interventions, tools, policies, and guidelines. Conversely, there is a benefit in understanding circumstances that create a need to stop or reduce ("de-implement") the use of interventions that are ineffective, unproven, low-value, or harmful. The ReVector program aims to develop methods to use human skin microbiomes to modulate chemical signatures in order to avoid mosquito attraction and feeding and reduce the threat of mosquito-borne disease to Warfighters. Human skin associated microbes interact with metabolites from the body and influence the personal chemical signature of each individual, making some individuals more attractive to mosquitoes. This program seeks to develop advanced data analytics and microbiome modulation tools for engineering skin microbiomes and provide new options for the readiness and resiliency of military personnel.

To establish a rare disease consortium focusing on clinical outcome assessments appropriate for use in drug development to demonstrate clinical benefit.

The ADDF seeks to support comparative effectiveness research, prevention clinical trials, and epidemiological studies that probe whether the use or choice of drugs alters the risk for dementia or cognitive decline. Specifically, the Prevention Beyond the Pipeline RFP supports: * Studies Leveraging the Consortium of Cohorts for Alzheimer's Prevention Action (CAPA) * Comparative Effectiveness Research: Methods may include randomized trials or epidemiology. * Studies of Cognitive Decline and Cognitive Reserve: Methods may include epidemiology or clinical trials. Current target areas of interest include: - Epigenetics - Inflammation - Mitochondria & metabolic function - Neuroprotection - Proteostasis - Synaptic activity and neurotransmitters - Vascular function - Other aging targets (e.g. senescent cells) - Other novel targets or pathways that are supported by compelling evidence demonstrating a rational biological connection to age-related cognitive decline or dementia risk   

The Clinician-Scientists Transdisciplinary Aging Research (Clin-STAR) Coordinating Center is seeking to fund pilot or planning grants that aim to stimulate new collaborations focused on the development of clinical aging research projects. A major goal of this effort is to bridge junior and senior researchers from different disciplines and institutions in order to stimulate new areas of clinical aging research. Funding may be used to collect preliminary data in emerging and understudied areas of aging-related clinical research. The funding also provides opportunities to build mentee/mentor relationships and content expertise for the junior investigator. The Clin-STAR Coordinating Center has set aside $160,000 to fund at least 3 projects. Size and number of awards will depend on the nature of the proposals.

The aim of this RFP is to develop biomarkers for which there is a clear clinical need in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Specifically, this RFP focuses on: - developing novel PET ligands for clinical use - supporting novel CSF biomarkers - validating established MRI approaches in larger cohorts Novel biomarkers of neuroinflammation and synaptic integrity are considered high priority. Other target areas of interest include: - Neuronal loss - Vascular injury and blood-brain barrier integrity - Mitochondria and metabolic function - Protein misfolding/proteostasis - Oxidative stress - White matter changes - Other novel targets supported by compelling biological rationale and connection to disease The ADDF has limited interest in CSF measures of amyloid and tau.

Data from this award can then be used to seek additional, larger-scale funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other funding entities to build on these discoveries. Eczema Champion Research Grants facilitate trail-blazing research by established investigators who have built a life-long career in eczema research, as well as thought leaders from other areas of study that can bring additional new perspectives to the research forefront.
