The ReVector program aims to develop methods to use human skin microbiomes to modulate chemical signatures in order to avoid mosquito attraction and feeding and reduce the threat of mosquito-borne disease to Warfighters. Human skin associated microbes interact with metabolites from the body and influence the personal chemical signature of each individual, making some individuals more attractive to mosquitoes. This program seeks to develop advanced data analytics and microbiome modulation tools for engineering skin microbiomes and provide new options for the readiness and resiliency of military personnel.

The FY19 VRP IIRA is intended to support studies that will yield highly impactful discoveries or major advancements in the research and/or patient care of eye injury and/or visual dysfunction as related to military-relevant trauma. Research projects may focus on any phase of research (e.g., basic, translational, applied, clinical, observational), excluding clinical trials. The research idea or solution should be innovative or novel, or a significant advancement over existing ideas or solutions, as applicable.

The DMDRP Idea Development Award supports the development of innovative, high-risk/high-reward research that could lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will accelerate progress in improving outcomes for individuals with DMD. This award mechanism is designed to support innovative ideas with the potential to yield impactful data and new avenues of investigation.

The ADDF seeks to support comparative effectiveness research, prevention clinical trials, and epidemiological studies that probe whether the use or choice of drugs alters the risk for dementia or cognitive decline. Specifically, the Prevention Beyond the Pipeline RFP supports: * Studies Leveraging the Consortium of Cohorts for Alzheimer's Prevention Action (CAPA) * Comparative Effectiveness Research: Methods may include randomized trials or epidemiology. * Studies of Cognitive Decline and Cognitive Reserve: Methods may include epidemiology or clinical trials. Current target areas of interest include: - Epigenetics - Inflammation - Mitochondria & metabolic function - Neuroprotection - Proteostasis - Synaptic activity and neurotransmitters - Vascular function - Other aging targets (e.g. senescent cells) - Other novel targets or pathways that are supported by compelling evidence demonstrating a rational biological connection to age-related cognitive decline or dementia risk   

The aim of this RFP is to develop biomarkers for which there is a clear clinical need in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Specifically, this RFP focuses on: - developing novel PET ligands for clinical use - supporting novel CSF biomarkers - validating established MRI approaches in larger cohorts Novel biomarkers of neuroinflammation and synaptic integrity are considered high priority. Other target areas of interest include: - Neuronal loss - Vascular injury and blood-brain barrier integrity - Mitochondria and metabolic function - Protein misfolding/proteostasis - Oxidative stress - White matter changes - Other novel targets supported by compelling biological rationale and connection to disease The ADDF has limited interest in CSF measures of amyloid and tau.

The objective of this award is to provide additional career development support for outstanding Respiratory Therapists (RTs) who conduct research (clinical or translational), including detection, inhalation therapies, clinical care, diagnostics, and therapeutic tools in alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD)-related lung disease.

The Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS) Core Programs Track supports research aimed at understanding why organisms are structured the way they are and function as they do. Proposals are welcomed in all of the core scientific program areas supported by the Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS). Areas of inquiry include, but are not limited to, developmental biology and the evolution of developmental processes, nervous system development, structure, modification, function, and evolution; biomechanics and functional morphology, physiological processes, symbioses and microbial interactions, interactions of organisms with biotic and abiotic environments,plant and animal genomics, and animal behavior. Proposals should focus on organisms as a fundamental unit of biological organization. Principal Investigators (PIs) are encouraged to apply systems approaches that will lead to conceptual and theoretical insights and predictions about emergent organismal properties.

The Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS)in the Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MPS) at the National Science Foundation (NSF)and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)plan to support fundamental research in mathematics and statistics necessary to answer questions in the biological and biomedical sciences. Both agencies recognize the need to promote research at the interface between mathematical and life sciences. This program is designed to encourage new collaborations, as well as to support innovative activities by existing teams.
