Biological processes at all scales from molecules to ecosystems are determined through the encoding, exchange, and interpretation of information. Advances in the biological sciences are enabled by our capacity to acquire, manage, represent, and analyze biological information through the use of modern instrumentation and computational tools. Developing an integrated understanding of cell function, regulatory systems, or ecological responses to environmental change are just a few examples of biological research areas that involve the acquisition, observation, experiment, and modeling of large amounts of data. Proposals are invited that offer potentially transformative outcomes through the development of informatics tools and resources that (1) offer novel and significant advances in the use of biological data and/or (2) will enable and stimulate advances through their impact on a significant segment of the biological research community supported by the NSF BIO Directorate. Awards in CIBR should produce, or substantially expand a finished product that will have demonstrable impact in advancing biological research. Proposals should convey their likelihood of success through greaterattention touser engagement, design quality, engineering practices, management plan,and dissemination.Budgets and award durationsshould accommodate the iterative process of bringing a proof of concept into a robust, broadly-adopted cyberinfrastructure. Development proposals are more outcome-driven than Innovation awards and are typically assessed on their perceived contribution to a broad portfolio of cyberinfrastructure resources. Synergies with, and leveraging of, other existing and ongoing resources are taken into consideration.

Specifically, their ability to collect and deliver the right data at the right time to the appropriate audiences would benefit from: Incorporating advances in technology to support decision makers in planning and executing program strategies Integration of immunization data systems, as well as the ability to address data use demands from multiple stakeholders. Enabling a culture that supports data quality and use e.g. provides feedback on data at multiple levels. Alignment of incentives to promote reporting of accurate data above coverage estimates. Innovations in process efficiency toward improved service delivery. These may stem from lean healthcare, or other approaches, but should have the end goal of improving the experience of healthcare workers, caregivers, or both.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite applications from qualified institutions for the NIH National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) Resource Center. The NRMN is a nationwide consortium intended to enhance the training and career development of individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups underrepresented in the biomedical research workforce, who are pursuing biomedical research careers by providing networking and mentorship experiences. One grant will be awarded for the development and management of a NRMN Resource Center, which will provide a web-based mentoring tool to facilitate real-time mentor/mentee engagement and networking. The awardee will also oversee the management of the NRMN website, report on outputs from NRMN components, and serve as a platform for publicly available mentoring resources and tools.

The Energy, Power, Control, and Networks (EPCN) Program supports innovative research in modeling, optimization, learning, adaptation, and control of networked multi-agent systems, higher-level decision making, and dynamic resource allocation, as well as risk management in the presence of uncertainty, sub-system failures, and stochastic disturbances. EPCN also invests in novel machine learning algorithms and analysis, adaptive dynamic programming, brain-like networked architectures performing real-time learning, and neuromorphic engineering. EPCN's goal is to encourage research on emerging technologies and applications including energy, transportation, robotics, and biomedical devices & systems. EPCN also emphasizes electric power systems, including generation, transmission, storage, and integration of renewable energy sources into the grid; power electronics and drives; battery management systems; hybrid and electric vehicles; and understanding of the interplay of power systems with associated regulatory & economic structures and with consumer behavior.

PCORI seeks to fund pragmatic clinical trials, large simple trials, or large-scale observational studies that compare two or more alternatives for addressing prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or management of a disease or symptom; improving healthcare system-level approaches to managing care; communicating or disseminating research results to patients, caregivers, or clinicians; or eliminating health or healthcare disparities. Proposed studies must address critical clinical choices faced by patients, their caregivers, clinicians, or delivery systems. They must involve broadly representative patient populations and be large enough to provide precise estimates of hypothesized effectiveness differences and to support evaluation of potential differences in treatment effectiveness in patient subgroups. PCORI's multi-stakeholder panels have identified 16 high-priority topics and research questions. (See PFA Appendix for list.) PCORI will give first consideration to applications that directly address one or more of the 16 PCORI identified topics. Note that PCORI is open to receiving and reviewing LOIs for studies on investigator-initiated CER questions as well. Note that this funding program does not support applications to conduct cost-effectiveness analyses, systematic reviews (with or without meta-analyses), or developing or evaluating shared decision-making or decision-support tools. In general, PCORI will not cover costs for interventions that are being compared in the proposed study. (See Appendix 3 in the Application Guidelines for details.) The Botstiber Institute for Wildlife Fertility Control (BIWFC) seeks grant proposals for research aimed at advancing the science of fertility control methods for humane management of wildlife. Acceptable research projects will support the Institute's mission and comply with its ethics policy on treatment of animals and may include research focused on: Success rates of wildlife fertility control methods as applied in the field including logistical feasibility The impact of wildlife fertility control on animal social dynamics and physical health Public attitudes toward fertility control as a wildlife population management tool Research and development of new approaches Cost effectiveness of fertility control Development of animal identification and fertility control delivery systems Grants will not exceed $50,000. How organizational-level factors influence the implementation of care planning and its associated costs is also of interest. Specifically, the FOA aims to stimulate research that will: 1) develop and test metrics for evaluating the impact of survivorship care planning; 2) evaluate the impact of survivorship care planning on cancer survivors' morbidity, self-management and adherence to care recommendations, utilization of follow-up care; 3) evaluate effects of planning on systems outcomes, such as associated costs and impact on providers and organizations implementing the care planning; and 4) identify models and processes of care that promote effective survivorship care planning. The ultimate goal of this FOA is to generate a body of science that will inform the development and delivery of interventions that improve follow-up care for cancer survivors.
