Food Safety Outreach Program (FSOP) for fiscal year (FY) 2018 to develop and implement food safety training, education, extension, outreach and technical assistance projects that address the needs of owners and operators of small to mid-sized farms, beginning farmers, socially-disadvantaged farmers, small processors, or small fresh fruit and vegetable merchant wholesalers.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is announcing its intention to receive and consider a single source application for award of a cooperative agreement in fiscal year 2018 (FY 2018) to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to support global strategies that address food safety, nutrition and public health. The purpose of this cooperative agreement is to: 1. Utilize FAO's extensive research and expertise on country development and aid activities. 2. Contribute to the research, knowledge base and development of food safety systems globally due to the increasingly diverse and complex food supply. 3. Enhance and broaden FDA's ability to address global food safety, nutrition, and public health issues associated with food. 4. Provide opportunities to leverage additional resources of other countries. 5. Support the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and FDA's International Food Safety Capacity Building Plan, which emphasizes the concept of preventing food safety-related problems before they occur and the importance of establishing strong relationships and mutual support among all stakeholders, including multilateral organizations, to improve worldwide food safety. 6. Support food safety, nutrition and public health programs that align with FDA's mission.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) is pleased to announce the availability of research funding in 2018 to investigate issues related directly to the management of white-nose syndrome (WNS). The WNS Program provides financial and technical assistance to non-governmental, university, and private researchers, as well as state and local governments, Native American tribes, and federal agencies, for the management of WNS and conservation of bats. Funded projects will investigate priority questions about WNS to improve our ability to manage the disease and implement management actions that will help to conserve affected bat species.

The NIH Director's Transformative Research Award supports individual scientists or groups of scientists proposing groundbreaking, exceptionally innovative, original, and/or unconventional research with the potential to create new scientific paradigms, establish entirely new and improved clinical approaches, or develop transformative technologies. Applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and in any topic relevant to the broad mission of NIH are welcome. Little or no preliminary data are expected. Projects must clearly demonstrate the potential to produce a major impact in a broad area of biomedical or behavioral research. The NIH Directors Transformative Research Award is a component of the High-Risk, High-Reward Research program of the NIH Common Fund.

The purpose of this cooperative agreement program is to deliver crop insurance education and risk management training to U.S. agricultural producers to assist them in identifying and managing production, marketing, legal, financial, and human risk.

The National Land Imaging (NLI) Program of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Land Resources (LR) mission area is soliciting applications from qualified Educational Institutions, State and Local Governments, and Non-profit Organizations (NPOs) to develop a U.S. national consortium to expand the science of remote sensing through education, outreach and research / applications development for environmental monitoring to include the effects of land use and land cover change on water quality, quantity and utility; societal adaptation and phenology; public health-related issues to include identification of potential indicators relating to vector-borne diseases and harmful algal blooms; natural resource management, agricultural applications, disaster risk reduction, and other land surface and surface water monitoring applications.

Develop cooperative relationships for managing invasive plants and noxious weeds at the landscape scale to set common goals and pool resources to effectively manage invasive plants and noxious weeds across Wyoming.

This funding opportunity announcement from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) invites applications for a National Center of Excellence for the Prevention of Childhood Agricultural Injury. Applicants are expected to propose multi-disciplinary approaches to develop partnerships for implementing prevention and intervention activities and to serve as a leader in research translation and research-to-practice for the protection of children in agricultural environments throughout the United States. Applicants must describe the occupational health and safety burden(s) addressed in their proposals. In addition, they must link the need for the proposed research and related activities to the planned outputs and outcomes that will help address or alleviate the burdens described. Applicants should also describe the anticipated impacts and potential outcomes of the proposed research and related activities that will occur during the 5-year project period and beyond.

We invite entrepreneurs, researchers, and advocates to submit their business, research, or policy proposals for funding consideration. Submissions will be reviewed by experts who will provide issuespecific insights and vet applications for boldness, viability, and impact. Best-in-class candidates will be selected to receive equity and debt financing for their businesses. A cash prize will be awarded to Soil GroundBreakers - rising stars working in research, social enterprise, or advocacy. GroundBreaker nominations will be accepted from FoodShot's diverse community of partners and aligned organizations, including a range of food system innovators, investors, and thought leaders.

The purpose of the Native Agriculture and Food Systems Scholarship Program is to encourage more Native American college students to enter these fields so that they can better assist Native communities with their efforts. First Nations will award five $1,000 scholarships for the 2018-19 academic school year to Native American college students majoring in agriculture and agriculture-related fields, including but not limited to agribusiness management, agriscience technologies, agronomy, animal husbandry, aquaponics, environmental studies, fisheries and wildlife, food production and safety, food-related policy and legislation, food science and technology, horticulture, irrigation science, nutrition education, and sustainable agriculture or food systems.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking concept notes for a cooperative agreement from qualified U.S. organizations to fund a program entitled Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy Research, Capacity, and Influence. Eligibility for this award is restricted to Title XII institutions. See Section C of this RFA for eligibility requirements. Subject to the availability of funds, an award will be made to the responsible applicant(s) whose application(s) best meets the objectives of this funding opportunity and the selection criteria contained herein. While one award is anticipated as a result of this request for applications (RFA), USAID reserves the right to fund any or none of the applications submitted. This RFA will have two phases. The Marine Turtle Conservation Fund (MTCA) is soliciting proposals for the conservation of marine turtles (Chelonia mydas, Caretta caretta, Dermochelys coriacea, Eretmochelys imbricata, Lepidochelys olivacea, Lepidochelys kempii) throughout their range outside of the United States and its territories. The U.S. Government enacted the Marine Turtle Conservation Act of 2004 in response to the decline of many marine turtle populations worldwide and the serious threats to their long-term survival. The primary purpose of the Act is to provide financial support for projects that conserve nesting populations and habitat and address other threats to the survival of marine turtles in foreign countries.

We believe that showing future generations how sustainable food is grown changes their lives. Connecting kids to gardens helps them to start thinking more holistically about their food, their communities, and the planet. We've seen firsthand how that exciting and inspiring that is for them.

Section 18 of the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act (NSLA) established a Farm to School program in order to assist eligible entities, (schools, school districts, agricultural producers, Indian tribal organizations, nonprofit organizations, state agencies and local agencies), through grants and technical assistance, in implementing farm to school programs that improve access to local foods in eligible schools.

The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund was established to provide grants to individual species conservation initiatives, recognize leaders in the field, and elevate the importance of species in the broader conservation debate. To that end, grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded in support of plant, animal and fungi species conservation efforts without restriction on the basis of region or species. Priority will be given to in situ species conservation work, but the fund will consider an ex situ project where it is demonstrated to be critical to the survival of the species concerned. These unknown factors are: 1) How many individuals are on the landscape (quality science-based estimate); and 2) what are the impacts of livestock grazing and trampling to individuals and the population as a whole? This announcement provides an opportunity for an organization with scientific expertise through a reputable third party to assist with both the design and carrying out of appropriate monitoring and sampling to answer questions regarding population extent, numbers, and trend, and the effects of livestock grazing.

Consumers the world over have embraced a variety of high-protein foods, such as Greek-style yogurt and beef jerky style meat products. Unfortunately, that increased level of protein in the product can negatively impact consumer perceptions by adversely impacting texture, taste, color, etc.

The National Academy of Education advances high-quality education research and its use in policy formation and practice. Founded in 1965, the academy comprises United States members and foreign associates who are elected on the basis of outstanding scholarship related to education. Since its establishment, NAEd has undertaken research studies that address pressing issues in education typically conducted by members and other scholars with relevant expertise.

The AFRI Foundational and Applied Science Program supports grants in the six AFRI priority areas to advance knowledge in both fundamental and applied sciences important to agriculture. The six priority areas are: Plant Health and Production and Plant Products; Animal Health and Production and Animal Products; Food Safety, Nutrition, and Health; Bioenergy, Natural Resources, and Environment; Agriculture Systems and Technology; and Agriculture Economics and Rural Communities.
