iLearn Technology » Blog Archive » Extreme Speed Booking:Using Technology to ... - 0 views

What it is: What makes technology SO great is the way that it can make life (and teaching) more productive and fun. Over the years, I have found so many ways that technology can make reading more rewarding for both kids who love to read, and kids who dread reading. Today, I created an "Extreme Speed Booking" website for @michellek107′s class at Anastasis. I created the site quickly using Weebly, an awesome WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) website editor. Drag and drop website building is where it is at! The idea behind the site is to introduce students to a variety of books and form classroom book groups. How does Extreme Speed Booking work? A whole lot like speed dating. :) Students spend a little time with each book and then rate them accordingly with "I want to read more", "Interesting", "Not for me", or "I've already read". Students can also make a note of how interested they are in reading the book (maybe a 1-10 scale)? This process introduces students to a variety of books, genres and authors. Students may come across titles and authors they wouldn't otherwise find. It also helps teachers form classroom book groups that are of high-interest and investment to students because they had input.

CogDogRoo - Web 2.0 Gem Starters - 0 views

"Each one of the "gems" listed here was recommended by an educator or someone who works in this field (or me!). They were selected as ones that are perhaps not as widely known as the Big Rocks like Flickr, del.icio.us, etc. Your goal here is not to analyze them all, just find one quickly that piques your interest. Managing Comments and Posts On Student Blogs Using Google Reader | The Edublogger - 0 views

  •
Very cool RSS feeds from student blogs. It's important, when managing student blogs, to be able to quickly read all their latest posts and any new comments. Sure you could visit each individual blog but that is incredibly time consuming. The better way, which saves time, is to bring the posts and comments to you using their RSS feed.

Cool Math Games - The world's most popular eductional website! - Thinking games and puz... - 0 views

Despite its name, not all the content on CoolMath.com is directly related to Math. In fact, their tag line is 'Math and Thinking games'. The Cool Math games site, (www.coolmath-games.com), has many great online games for gifted children. Take, for example, the ever popular Bloxorz, the Lemonade Stand Game, or Bloons Tower Defense. Each are maddeningly fun and addictive, but each are also designed to engage the thinking skills of gifted learners. Online kids brain games - 0 views

Another great site that is well worth your time is Kidopo. This educational site has an amazing collection of brain games that will keep your students engaged for hours. As with everything else on Kidopo, the games are specifically chosen because they are student friendly and appropriate for use at school. Again, all the games are very well produced, and the interest level they generate is always high. Try Fling, Zoo Escape, Mechanics, or Prizma Puzzle 2 with your students and you will quickly see how hard their brains can really work!
