You can use personification to make your writing more interesting. Personification is a figure of speech in which human qualities are given to objects, animals, or ideas. For example: the fire breathed hot in our faces and its flames grabbed at our clothes, or the chocolate cake is calling my name. You can find personification at work in lots of different types of writing. Lewis Carroll's uses lots of personification in The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland. Remember the white rabbit and Alice playing croquet with a deck of cards?

Hard to explain To be clear, Qwiki isn't a piece of hardware. Instead, it's a piece of software meant to run on the web and as an app on mobile devices. What it does is present to you data about millions of topics in an extremely interesting and visual way. Imagine if someone created a movie highlight reel of Wikipedia pages - that's sort of what Qwiki is like. You search for something - a topic, a person, etc - and Qwiki talks to you, telling you all you need to know about what you searched for, while also showing you key things about the subject or person. You can also click on sub-topics or related topics to access more Qwikis with vast amounts of other information. It's a fairly incredible way to consume information. And the data isn't just from Wikipedia. Say you do a search for a person, Qwiki can look at their social connections and tell you about their LinkedIn profile, for example. It is very, very impressive.

50+ Ways to Tell the Dominoe Story Just to prove it can be done, I am going to try and tell the same story as an example for every tool in the list. Previously, I created a short story originally as a video assembled from still images and audio that was submitted for a 60 Second Story contest Every story is based on my storyboard and assembled images on flickr and in Picasa -- a number of tools allow you to directly import media from these storage sites. Below are examples of the same story (over and over again!) I was able to create in the 50+ tools, with both linked versions (on the tool's web site) and embedded versions, using the code provided to embed a media player into this web site. One of the most interesting discoveries was that about 2/3 of these tools provided the ability to embed the media in other web sites.

Vidinotes is an interesting site that I spotted a few weeks back. It's a great way to produce instant (almost) video worksheets to go with YouTube videos.

Some very interesting ideas from a language teacher After writing a few reflections on the units I covered last term, I realized that summative reflection could become a tedious chore that doesn't serve much of purpose. This term I would like to work on writing shorter more formative reflections to help me stay connected with my units, and that will hopefully illicit some useful feedback from you, dear reader.

Another great site that is well worth your time is Kidopo. This educational site has an amazing collection of brain games that will keep your students engaged for hours. As with everything else on Kidopo, the games are specifically chosen because they are student friendly and appropriate for use at school. Again, all the games are very well produced, and the interest level they generate is always high. Try Fling, Zoo Escape, Mechanics, or Prizma Puzzle 2 with your students and you will quickly see how hard their brains can really work!
