The Around the World with 80 Schools project has grown tremendously over the last year. It has grown so fast that it was becoming very time consuming to manually enter contact information for a group email list, invited participants manually to a wiki, add their location on a Google Map, and maintain a Google form/spreadsheet with the participants' contact information.

Very cool, good to use with group or class using projector.

Voice Thread allows you and your students to add audio, video, and text as part of conversations concerning science or math content. Comments can be added using a pre-recorded audio file, microphone, call from a phone, or webcam and microphone. A Voice Thread allows group conversations to be collected and shared in one place, from anywhere in the world. This is great when your class is collaborating on a project with students in another time zone or other locations around the world.

The Methods course that I am teaching this summer has just embarked on a short round of teaching practice classes. To help the teachers plan their first lesson, I pulled a few old favourites out of the drawer. They are roughly divided into those that have a mainly interpersonal function (such as forging a collaborative group dynamic) and those that are primarily diagnostic (identifying strengths, weaknesses, interests, and styles). Feel free to post variants, additions - or attributions (apart from the few I dreamed up myself, such as the star warmer, I have no idea who invented the rest).

This week we are currently looking at shapes - both 2D shapes and 3D objects. As part of a "let's apply this to our life" moment, we decided to break the kids into small groups of two or three. We then put a digital camera in their hand and told them that they were to traverse the school and take 10 photos of shapes that they saw in our environment. Kids loved it.
