Great resource with descriptions of the dangers of social networking use without guarding one's private information. It includes a list of suggestions for how to more safely be "social."

This article discusses some statistics of social networking use and how users can get scammed or information stolen through clicking on headers or sharing too much personal data.

I liked this resource. It included a video on the basics of Twitter and some ideas for what to tweet for those who wish to use it in the classroom.

I often use Jing to capture images or provide instructions on how to navigate through a LMS, Jing allows you to use arrows to direct student to the correct location on the screen.

As my first bookmark I wanted to use something I found on Twitter at Edudemic. This infograf is a great visual reminder of the many changes in education, ourselves and our careers.

I hear complaints about the poor quality of student writing today as often as I read stories about the Internet causing the end of higher education as we know it (i.e., frequently). When those complaints come in the form of actual conversations with peers, instead of in print, I feel myself immediately put on the defensive.

Thanks for this post Heather. I liked that the instructor recognized that despite some challenges with using a new technique to promote his students' writing skills the energy that was expressed by his students far outweighed the "mess" that he dealt with the first time trying something new.

The lack of learning transfer is a common mantra in higher education. It's a good article for reflection. Although I've been a proponent of service learning, at the same time, I wasn't sure how students could or if they would transfer their experiences to the academic component. Now, I need to rethink my position on service learning and its impact on connected learning

It's no surprise that high school and college students spend a bulk of their time texting and tweeting. But who would have thought that social media would make its way into the classroom -- as an invited guest, no less? Developing community Forget the "no cell phones rule" -- these days, laptops and iPhones are a mainstay of the classroom.

Below is a great idea from a science teacher who posted this on an NSTA listserv. This is a creative idea to promote student learning of basic foundation knowledge in an introductory level course. This technique promotes "students interacting, thinking, creating, communicating, and applying content/subject knowledge"!

NoodleTools is my favorite tech tool for teaching my composition students how to document and cite their sources. It doesn't just make the citations for them. It also teaches them about the different types of sources.

Community Classroom is an innovative and free resource for educators, offering short-form film modules adapted from ITVS's award-winning documentaries and standards-based lesson plans for high school and community colleges, NGOs, and youth organizations.

This abstract written by an engineering professor at Cal Poly Engineering offers research and support for a new trend in education called, "the Inside-Out Classroom." The abstract describes how the inside out classroom is a win-win-win strategy for teaching with technology. Instructors create "chunks" of core content in a digital, lecture-capture format. These resources are then stored online for students. These are short videos that students watch before attending class sessions. Students study core content for a course online on their own, and then complete assignments during in-class sessions.

Technology and education are pretty intertwined these days and nearly every teacher has a few favorite tech tools that make doing his or her job and connecting with students a little bit easier and more fun for all involved.
