In addition to the comment that populated itself below, I want to add that this link contains a list of etiquette rules for Twitter that I think are very useful for a newbie. Twitter has proven itself to be an indispensable tool for educators around the globe. Whatever skill level you may be, Twitter is downright fun and worth your time. So here's a useful guide that we curated from Edudemic's archives in an effort to put something together that was a bit easier to read than random blog posts.

This self-paced, online anatomy and physiology course covers all the bodily systems playing a major role in human anatomy. The material is presented in a practical and comprehensive manner. The focus of the course is on the need-to-know facts that must be understood in order to pursue any healthcare career or related education in the field of science.

The main argument stems from the fact that the students (and most of the teachers) are already there. Facebook has 1.1 billion users, and despite reports that young people are drifting away from Facebook in favour of mobile messaging apps like WhatsApp and Snapchat, you'd be hard pressed to find a teenager in the UK without an account.

You'll feel like a superhero. The above comments are from Padlet's hype...but I recently learned about this tool for collaboration at a conference. Social networking communities are here to stay. Facebook has over 500 million users, while Twitter has over 200 million. That's not even counting blogs or YouTube video blogs. There's no doubt that students are actively engaged in online communities, but what kind of effects are these sites having and how can parents counteract the bad and bolster the positive?

Years of helping faculty pass to the dark side of online education have taught me a few simple rules that I brow beat (in a collegial way) into all new online teachers.

The best way to determine how to offer your distance learning course is to consider these items: What do you want your students to know? How do you teach this on campus? How comfortable are you with technology-and do you want to learn? Remember: More technology does not make better teaching or learning.

This was an interesting list that suggested social media tools to use as alternatives to those that dominate social interaction on the web. The idea behind the suggestions are that for many students Facebook and Twitter exist within a personal social sphere, and that offering a separate space for academic interaction can help preserve the distinction between the two. Tom addressed the benefits of that approach and reasons why it may be worth pursuing in his post this week in the Technology Tools class.
