A social Networking Tool that allows users to create polls and quizzes in an international setting via texting,twittering,and the web.

Audience response system that uses mobile phones, twitter, and the web. Responses are displayed in real-time on gorgeous charts in PowerPoint, Keynote, or web browser.

This was used in a class I took and I found it a fascinating tool to doing a poll or survey for a class. It allows students to use the tech that they generally already use to a great extent - such as responding by text from the phone using a code specific to that poll, responding via twitter, or on the PollEv.com site directly. I haven't integrated this yet into a class, but I can really see potential here after using it in a class

I was intrigued with this question, which I have tweaked a bit - "How can we as educators make the best use of Twitter or Diigo to help connect our students with amazing, inspiring personalities in the various fields we teach"?. This article describes the increased use in the eLearning industry to HTML5 as an authoring tool. Moving away from things like Adobe Flash has allowed new opportunities and avenues of creation possibilities to content developers. HTML5 has wide support across many different browsers and LMS platforms which makes the use of HTML5 an easy transition/addition. HTML5 does, however, have difficulty working with older browsers such as IE8. Using authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate 9 and Articulate Storyline makes HTML5 easy to use.

I have used this in my classes and love it! The free Poll Everywhere mobile app is perfect for responding to polls, presenting polls, and clicking through PowerPoint presentations. Use it to... 1.) Respond to polls: Audience members can use the app to respond to the presenter's questions live. 2.) Poll an audience: Presenters can ask the audience questions and display poll responses live. 3.) What a great way to be able to asynchronously poll students and still allow them to remain anonymous. This also gives students to see how well their knowledge compares to other students. It also allows them to see if their way of thinking is similar to other students.

It took me about an hour to find this podcast. I wanted a podcast that addressed topics that are could be understood by a student in a college level math class. These short podcast give a step by step solution for various algebra problems and could be used as a supplemental way of explaining a particular problem. I would use these podcast if there were a few more examples for each topic. For instance, I would like at least 3 podcast for the common denominator problem. I would probably use the podcast as a section review or with a worksheet that had similar examples.

Great easy to use.

You can develop your own questions, use their test bank, or import your existing quizzes. You can select the order of the questions, indicate scores for passing, will show you their score at the completion of the quiz and reveal the correct answer to the questions. Very easy to follow. Almost no learning curve. I would definitely use this in an online class to assess students understanding of concepts covered. I would offer it either as a review or as a quiz itself.

Author writes about some of the same reasons we're learning to use these tools in the online environment; however, the use of Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory as support for why these tools should be used is unusual.

Really outstanding but lengthy session on how to use a wiki in teaching. Within the first 20 minutes he talks about using a wiki for his own course notes--he can access from any computer when he has a thought; an example, he says, of "cloud computing." He also explains how he started using a wiki for student note-taking. None of his students were taking notes because his lecture was "making sense." Instructor's (Richard Buckland) worry was that maybe later it WOULDN'T make sense. He tried handing out notes to studetns, each student taking turns keeping notes, and others. One student suggested a wiki and he says it's worked fantastically! COLLABORATIVE LECTURE NOTES. Now when he lectures he displays a brief outline of his notes which students then mark-up for themselves. Students now own their notes! He reviews at night and sees where students have trouble. He does NOT change the notes. He waits because often students will comes back to fix. But if he sees the error persists by the next lecture, then he knows he needs to correct a misconception.

Very useful videos, some long and some shorter, to help build lessons around or to supplement a lesson one has already created. TED Talks is useful as well, but this education version of it offers more potential for use in a class.

I need to check these out. I am not familiar with all of them.

This blog entry provides us with very useful ideas of using Twitter in education.

I must admit that when I first heard about Twitter I thought it represented the apex of what concerns me about internet technology: solipsism and sound-bite communication. While I obviously spend a great deal of time online and thinking about the potential of these new networked digital communication structures, I also worry about the way that they too easily lead to increasingly short space and time for conversation, cutting off nuance and conversation, and what is often worse how these conversations often reduce to self-centered statements. When I first heard about Twitter I thought, this was the example par excellence of these fears, so for many months I did not investigate it at all.

This article describes ways to use twitter to enhance academic work. With twitter, the class goes on beyond the assigned class period because (i) the technology is appealing, (ii) students have much to say/ask, (iii) students can 'talk' without concern for "who's (physically) in class that might make fun of me", and (iv) students respond in their own time. Twitter has the dual benefits of quasi-synchronous and asynchronous communication.

Millennials live and breathe on social media, so teachers are learning how to incorporate the medium into the classroom successfully. In doing so, teachers not only encourage students to engage actively in the material, but they also provide online communities for students that might not exist for them in real life.

Suggestions include: having students use Twitter, Facebook and Flickr to share work, using hashtags to live tweet, requiring students to blog, using LinkedIn to reach out to experts, using Google Hangouts for virtual office hours, post assignments and messages in Edmondo, conducting class in Second Life.

This blog has followed social gaming juggernaut Zynga's progress for a couple years now. One of its most popular gaming apps is FarmVille, which runs on Facebook and touts an estimated 70 million players, making it one of, if not the, most popular games ever. Testaments to the game's popularity abound. I opted to post this here as we are debating the use of Web 2.0 tools in education. Farmville dominated Facebook games for a number of years, and educators made use of this trend to enhance their teaching. Though it has not been developed for educational purposes, I know even teachers of business studies who used it in their classes with students 13+ of age. This example should encourage us to make use of what is trending and popular with our students to our advantage!
