After reading about this in chapter 5 this week, I want to use this project with my students.  They can create this page for a composer and include pictures, quotes, his/her contemporaries and recordings.

This website allows users to create fake facebook profiles. This is a great tool to get students interested in sharing information they have learned about historical figures. This site could be used to share information on composers, choreographers, musicians, etc. There is also a database of profiles of various figures throughout history.

This SFCV site is for the arts community to read articles, listen to podcast from other orchestras, and allow users to purchase tickets to concerts. Another purpose is to allow youth to explore new music that they might not know or understand yet. This website includes upcoming events in the San Francisco area, Critic Reviews, the ability to listen to music online, and other music resources such as biographies on composers and musicians of today, and from the past.

Music Matters is a blog that allows users/readers to utilize websites, information, and activities for students in music. There are sources for educators that include training, games, and blogs that help students grow as musicians and music learners. This website includes information for Music History, Music Theory, pedagogy for instruments, music organizations, and music education conferences. Each source includes guides, activities, and blogs for the reader to navigate to a certain website or community, and reflect on what has been read or what is happening in the world of music.

This website has the purpose of gaining knowledge on saxophone musicians, and ways to practice, listen, and fine tune the sound one makes. It has articles and techniques that are meant to give saxophonists needed guidance on history, ways to improve performance, and how to perform with different styles. This site includes different genres or saxophone performance, such as classical, jazz, be bop, rock and blues, and regae. There are other links for purchasing music, mouthpieces, saxophones, and practice books.

This website is a source of information for the Alexander Techinique, which has to do with body positioning and the habits people fall into. There are resources specifially for musicians on this site. I am interested in learning more so that I can apply some of these techniques in my choral and general music classrooms.

This TED video is inspiring for any musician, but particularly for teachers working with students with special needs.

This site provides links helpful to band, chorus, orchestra, and general music teachers. The recommended sites have been researched and are of legitimate use for educators and musicians. The sites listed include professional organizations, academic music education resources, blogs, discussion forums, and  app/software reviews.

This is absolutely ridiculous. If your instrument has elephant ivory, even the tiniest bit, and it was made after the 1976 agreement regarding import of elephant ivory, it is considered contraband - and the government can take it from you - when you travel. The silliest part is that many people are misinformed about the use of ivory in musical instruments. Piano keys - "those ivories" - those are made from seal ivory, not elephant ivory. I wonder how much ivory used in other instruments is elephant ivory.

Thanks for sharing this! I have to figure out how to travel to Bolivia in a couple weeks with my baroque bow, which has an ivory frog.

Free Improvisation software tool for beginning to intermediate jazz musicians.

The software has its occasional glitches (it is free after all) and does not allow for audio input like many paid doppelgangers, but this allows students to understand chord progressions, work out solo lines (and notate them using colorized notes for feedback), play along with auto-accompaniment and utilizes the brick chord layout for easy form understanding.

Michael Tilson Thomas with the San Francisco Symphony creates Keeping Score. This series contains different documentaries about the history of music, the composers, conductors, musicians, locations and performances. Music educators can explore interactive multimedia, biographies of the composers and access the episodes to share with students.

A blog I love dedicated to thoughts on the performing musician. Great resource with approaches to use as an individual performer and information to present to students.

Dr. Noa Kageyama is a sport and performance psychologist with a music background.  He provides very interesting and introspective articles to help people improve themselves as people and performers, and offers a course to teach you how to overcome performance anxiety.  Great resource for people who struggle with performing.

Roger Day is one of my all time, favorite children's musicians. This is his official website and features videos, lyrics to songs, booking information and merchandise. His newest CD, Marsh Mud Madness stays true to his educational platform and teaches children interesting facts about wetlands in a fun, exciting, musical way.

Eric Litwin is an author, musician and producer who specializes in children's music. He is one of my favorite artists for kids. He has many educational resources and a curriculum for preschool children. His books featuring Pete the Cat are awesome and appear regularly in my music room! Eric Litwin also does performances in schools and communities and has visited my school for his "Earth Shaking, CD Making" project where my students learned songs and recorded them to make their own CD.

Sonja, an app available in the app store, lets you read, write, record, and edit music hassle free. It' serves as a great educational tool for singers and musicians that lets you play or sing along with other app users. You also have the ability to import MIDI and audio files as well.
