PBS Kids' Chuck Vanderchuck is an amazing tool for teaching music genre and history. My students love it and ask for it year after year.

Chuck Vanderchuck is a fantastic resource for teaching students about different genres found in music (not just classical!). Kids love the different sounds that genre-based instruments make, fun catch phrases that Chuck repeats throughout the site, and different historical facts about how each genre originated. Students are invited to move to music, arrange their own combos with different instruments, and engage in memory games to help them learn the content provided.

This website allows students to experiment with different genres of music. It gives students a chance to have their own "jam session."

This site allows the user to create interactive timelines to share on the web.  Many resources can be added to the timeline entries.  

Dipity is a free online timeline website. Students can create timelines for music history.

Low cost already-made journal for kindergarteners related to their music activities. Features many important musical concepts that I want to implement. This website has tons of great other types of pre-made worksheets for use in classrooms.

This is a blog and resources from Amy Burns, an elementary music teacher, author and clinician. She has a lot of great material on including software and technology in the classroom. She also has several videos of conferences where she presented that have good information.

The blogs includes monthly newsletters, different tags for information such as performance anxiety and music career guidance, benefits on recording music, how to practice with a positive mental attitude, and how to talk to audiences as well as how to not talk to them. This information is for the public to view and gain insight on their goal towards becoming a better musician and educator.

Music K-8 is a popular site among elementary/middle school classroom music teachers. The popular magazine is full of great ideas, music, games, articles, and musical performance programs. A very useful aspect of the website is the "Idea Bank" which is located in the Resources tab. Subscribing to the idea bank list allows music teachers to instantly interact, discuss, and share with colleagues across the nation. The diverse wealth of resources available here are sure to be helpful in every kindergarten through 8th grade music class.

My 6th grade clarinet students often get frustrated when looking up fingerings they don't know (we try hard to not tell them the answer, but rather have them look it up themselves). The charts in the back of the methods books are great, but to a young student it can be confusing which pinky or side key is actually supposed to be used. This interactive fingering chart, while obviously not in their book, could alleviate these same frustrations in their practice sessions at home.

Michael Tilson Thomas with the San Francisco Symphony creates Keeping Score. This series contains different documentaries about the history of music, the composers, conductors, musicians, locations and performances. Music educators can explore interactive multimedia, biographies of the composers and access the episodes to share with students.

Brought to the internet from PBS Kids, Chuck Vanderchuck is a cartoon kid who dreams big when it comes to music. Along with his band-mate, Ramona and their dog Zepplin, the trio explore styles of music, compose songs, explore sounds, have jam sessions and allow an interactive inside look at famous musicians and composers in their locations around the globe. Builds music vocabulary, music history and overall exploration of various genres. Styles include: Salsa, Jazz, Country, Hip-Hop, Rock n' Roll, Blues, Classical, Reggae. Good with IWB. Offers teacher and parent resources. Can create a free account and log in anywhere to progress through the game-like environment of Chuck Vanderchuck.

A fun resource for students to use. The site is regularly updated with popular songs that are available for free. The interactive Recorder Karate can be used with a microphone to show what needs to be improved.

This website provides teachers with resources that include sample lesson plans, example student work, pre-made work sheets and interactive activities that students can use individually, in a group, or with the whole class.

Smithsonian Folkways provides free lesson plans, activities and classroom resources on world music. The lessons can be downloaded in PDF format. The web page offers interactive features for students to learn about other music cultures and heritage.

Composerizer is a interactive website that allows the user to compose in 3/4 time with preprogramed measures. Would be great introduction to composition in music classes.

This musical timeline was designed by Google; It is based on what was bought and when through GooglePlay. You can explore the numerous genres and subgenera of music through this interactive timeline. Popular albums are also linked to each genre. What a great visual for students!
