The Rhythm Trainer is a simple flash-based game that reinforces rhythm concepts. Students can either enter the rhythm that they hear, or choose the correct audio that matches the rhythm they see. Each example is four beats long, and there are a limited number of rhythms available. Students can select any or all of the 8 rhythms available to practice. Results can be emailed to the student's teacher.

The Rhythm trainer is another great source for helping students learn the principles of ear training. Teachers can load listening examples of varying rhythmic figures which students can respond to picking the examples they think best fit. Students can choose two modes of rhythm training which either provide them with choices for answers or require them build their answers based on the specific rhythms they are being trained on. The Rhythm Trainer does require the use Adobe Flash Player in order to play the examples but can be great for anyone teaching or learning the very basics developing good ear training skills.

This is a great tool to have to teach students rhythm. I use this to teach my private students to strengthen their ability to read rhythm. They find this website quite fun, and they enjoy all of the practices in which assign.

Users can filter examples based on genres, periods or by individual composers and have access to both live recording and even MIDI recreations of famous pieces of classical and more contemporary music.

The method is based on common American folk songs that are commonly taught in elementary settings, and therefore integrates well with common curricular models including Kodaly and Orff. There is a list of pre-loaded popular songs with scrolling piano parts and lyrics, along with lead-sheet symbols and drum parts available. The software helps teach music reading and learning by ear using a scrolling video interface.

This website would be great for creating lesson plans for subs and would also be a great resource if you can't find printed worksheets that address theory. The games are also fun and educational, asking students to identify instruments, tempos, etc. and can act as quizzes that can be scored and printed out. Great resource!

Music Tech Teacher is an open resource offered by Karen Garrett as an extension of her own music classes she had previously been teaching. Ms. Garrett offers free lessons, worksheets and assessments that can be downloaded as .pdfs and used by any teachers looking for materials that could be used within their own classrooms. Each lesson is labeled on the world map for easy reference. Lessons have links to playlists, videos and additional resources. There are lesson plans designed for all ages K-12.

Musication is a YouTube channel that offers boomwhacker, body percussion and handbell play-longs for students. The site is intended for elementary music, but can be used with any age. There is a wide variety of songs on the site and he has a facebook page as well. The site is based out of the Netherlands

The Yellow Brick Road website contains a blog full of free, well-designed, standard-based lesson plans as well as links to her store on www.teacherspayteachers.com. You can sign up for a newsletter on the website to get additional resources emailed to you. This site is geared towards K-6 general music.

The Music Interactive (TMI) offers music-based games for students (and teachers) to challenge themselves and to reinforce musical elements.

This is a fun listening game in the form of Tetris. This game is designed to enhance the audiation skills in students by helping them identify instruments based on their unique sounds. There are three levels of difficulty for students to play. Each instrument that descends is accompanied by its innate musical sound. In the first level, students must match instruments according to their family. In the second level, students must match instruments with identical instruments. On the third level, the most challenging level, students must match instruments with identical instruments, but the icon of each instrument is blacked out. In other words, students must rely solely on their ears to hear and categorize each instrument's unique sound.
