Teachers who want to put web 2.0 technologies to work for them can find many different free options online. There are tools for creating online classrooms, social networks, student podcasts, web-based flashcards, elearning modules, and much more. Here are 10 free web 2.0 tools for teachers to try in the classroom this year.

In order to put together a list of the best Web 2.0 classroom tools, I polled my Twitter followers, Facebook fans (are they still called fans? Likes?) and ran a contest to try and get as many submissions as possible. This left me with 100 different Web 2.0 tools that are recommended by your peers. After all, what better way to uncover new products than by the people you are already sharing with?

There are new web 2.0 tools appearing every day. Although some of these tools were not originally meant for use in the classroom, they can be extremely effective learning tools for today's technology geared students and their venturesome teachers. Many of these teachers are searching for the latest products and technologies to help them find easier and efficient ways to create productive learning in their students. More and more teachers are using blogs, podcasts and wikis, as another approach to teaching. We have created a list of 100 tools we think will encourage interactivity and engagement, motivate and empower your students, and create differentiation in their learning process.

Sharing has always been a prominent part of what the Internet is and how it functions. And with social networks exploding in popularity in the past several years, sharing is probably the one aspect we utilize the most on the web. Over the last eighteen months I've created and offered seven free ebooks for teachers. Create astonishing presentations live and on the web

The reality is that they are two different products with many similarities. They appeal to different target audiences with the same end game in mind.  Even Jeff Janer, co-founder of Springpad wrote that once on Quora.  He's not really trying to compete against Evernote - but now, with Evernote's latest kung-fu moves (Android update, New web interface, social media sharing, and desktop redux), there's so many striking similarities. Both apps, I believe have their place with a specific segment in the note-taking-remember-everything space.  Evernote has been pushing educational, photographer & visual arts, musicians use cases in a big way.  Springpad has been really amping up their usefulness when shopping, cooking, sharing bookmarks, and of course, it's overall usefulness in sharing notes with the world.

This lesson makes students aware of online privacy issues, primarily those relating to giving out personal information on social networking Web sites such as Facebook. Students will learn to assess the various types of information they provide in Facebook profiles, along with the different levels of access. They will examine the potential risks and consequences of posting personal information on the Internet, and become more aware of how to protect their privacy.
