General Mills Adds Social Media to Product Pitch - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  •
For instance, Fiber One Chewy will sponsor a board on the Pinterest page of Hungry Girl, which began as an e-mail newsletter in 2004. About a million people now receive the newsletter each day, and there is also a Hungry Girl Web site. General Mills had earlier turned to Hungry Girl to promote Fiber One products like cereal, yogurt and snack bars. This is "the first time Fiber One has done anything with Pinterest," said Julia Travis, associate marketing manager for Fiber One at General Mills in Golden Valley, Minn. "We know Pinterest is such a growing space, and wanted to test the waters," she added, particularly because "food is one of the top Pinterest categories." The idea is to reach "moms who are pinning fun and creative snacking ideas on their Pinterest boards," Ms. Travis said, and "re-pinning their ideas onto the Fiber One-sponsored board on the Hungry Girl Pinterest site," which will be called Fiber One Chewy Snack Champs. Those Pinterest users whose ideas are selected to appear on the board will receive a badge recognizing them as "Snack Champs."

Big Idea 2013: Unbundling Media | LinkedIn - 0 views

  •
"Microcontent sharing takes this to the next level: What if you could break down an article into its constituent parts and share them independently? Perhaps one day aggregators could reassemble not just articles into a personalized newspaper, but also individual quotes, images and videos? I'm so excited about microcontent sharing that we've implemented it into the new Mashable.com. If you visit an article on the site and hover over an image or quote, we provide options to share that piece of content to your social networks. We hope to take this idea even further in future iterations, but it's a start."

New Music Video Created Entirely With iPad Brushes App [VIDEO] - 0 views

Cool creative idea. I think the idea of the iPad as a media consumption device is BS, it is just not optimal for creating certain types of content but good at others

backed by DreamWorks. The idea is to create "snackable media" by mashing up text, video, images and audio into 60-second slideshows or videos. The personalized one-offs can then be broadcast across channels, a full composition taking mere minutes to complete. Rather than limiting the sharing to the user's own content, all media aggregated from social feeds are fair game for users to "ptch" to their friends.

Would you tweet an advert in exchange for free crisps? | Jill Insley | Money | guardian.co.uk - 0 views

Kellogg's is using a "Tweet shop" in London's Soho to promote its new product, Cracker Crisps. The idea is customers "pay" for a packet by tweeting a message about the snack to their friends and followers. Customers sample their wares in a "try before you buy" area and write their Twitter review. The Special K representatives then check every customer's tweet before handing over a 60p packet of crisps.

Waze Maps Out Native Ad Platform | Adweek - 2 views

  •
"Like seemingly every startup currently exploring an ad-supported business model, Waze has gone native for its ad platform. Typically startups wade into advertising by working directly with brands then erecting a self-serve platform down the road. Waze sped things up. The company began testing ads in its U.S. app over the summer, working directly with Zipcar, Best Buy and a number of fuel brands and convenience store chains; at launch it has added Procter & Gamble, Dunkin' Donuts, Wyndham Hotels, Whole Foods, Jamba Juice, CircleK and Kum & Go to its advertiser roster. The direct sales channel continues, but Waze has also set up a self-serve platform for its most basic ad units. The self-serve platform operates on an auction model with floor prices set at $1 per thousand impressions. In addition to a branded search result, marketers can pay to plot branded pins at their locations on the Waze map. When users click on these branded pins, they can click a link to the company's website, a number to call the location or-borrowing the idea of drive-to advertising popularized by driving navigation company Telenav-a button that would navigate them to the location."

Big Idea 2013: Put a Content Engine Inside Your Company | LinkedIn - 0 views

  •
"Here are five lessons in the art and science of storytelling I learned by studying the pros ... 1) Adopt a newsroom mentality Make content development a core part of the way you do business - just as it is in journalism. Embed it in every department. Hire journalists just as LinkedIn, Qualcomm and others have done. Curate voices like we do on edelman.com. 2) Hand-craft your content for each venue Some companies try desperately to create singular pieces of content that can be simply be dumped in different places. That no longer works. Instead, hand-craft your content for each venue. Jonah Peretti, Buzzfeed's co-founder, summed it up best when he said: "Twitter is for your head, while Facebook is for your heart." 3) Cultivate superstars who have a POV News and information, to some degree, is commodity content - it's everywhere. Deep, thoughtful analysis, however, is in high demand. Just as the New York Times has Nate Silver and ESPN has Bill SImmons, you too can grow and cultivate rock stars who create thoughtful content with unique analytical point of view. 4) Be relentlessly data driven Speaking of Mr. Silver, if there's one thing he taught us this year it's that data rules. Follow in his footsteps in not only how you use data to inform and deliver your storytelling but also in how you measure your results. Many newsrooms, for example, now have real-time dashboards that help shape their decisions. 5) Let constraints fuel creativity Finally, it's often hard to convince management to put resources behind content until there's proven ROI. However, constraints can breed creativity. The Wall Street Journal's daytime video network, for example, was challenged to cover the Olympics without footage. So instead it creatively turned to using puppetry - and with great success. Be creative to get around constraints."

Blogging with Medium, the odd new product from Twitter's founders | The Verge - 0 views

  •
"Medium, the new self-publishing platform from two of Twitter's co-founders, Evan Williams and Biz Stone, promises to eliminate the need for bloggers to also be marketers. "We want to help the best ideas and stories have the biggest possible impact," Williams said in an email. "For the vast majority of people, Medium will have a higher return-on-investment for writing than publishing one's own blog.""
