It appears that vending machines for cabs may be the next frontier for the market, with both TaxiTreats and New Orleans Carriage Cab developing ways for passengers to buy products on the move. Vending machines appear to be a platform ripe for new innovation, and Springwise has seen numerous twists on the concept - from beer and wifi dispensers to machines that work only for adults.

Strongbow Gold's StartCap - 1 views

Heineken-owned cider brand Strongbow Gold developed a prototype for StartCap, the world's first digital bottle cap. A tag embedded in the protected cap sets off RFID scanners placed in bars or at events, which then trigger celebratory surprises such as music, water fountains, confetti cannons or, curiously, automatic Foursquare check-ins. The RFID tags connect to an antenna to read a radio signal that communicates with a computer to produce the unexpected wonders. Thus far, StartCap has only been used at launch events in Europe, but an online teaser video is already building buzz.

Digital Agency Launches Tumblr Commerce Service for Brands | Digital - Advertising Age - 0 views

Mr. Coe says the agency's Tumblr commerce platform has two service levels: one designed for small businesses and the other for brands. For the former, Coexist and Stripe would take a roughly 6% cut of sales transacted through the platform, but the service would be free to use. In the case of brands, he's envisioning something more custom where Coexist might develop a Tumblr blog for an event like Fashion Week and then power a pop-up store where Tumblr followers could buy limited-edition goods that had been unveiled that week. The service's first taker is Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, which has 10 stores in Ohio and Tennessee and sells to wholesalers like Dean & Deluca and Whole Foods but shipped more than $1 million of product through its website last year. Its Tumblr account launched last week, and items for sale are marked with a yellow dot, including a $32 ice-cream-sandwich collection.
Facebook Now Lets You "Follow" Someone In Any App, Get Their Updates In News Feed Where The Ads Are | TechCrunch - 0 views

And it may get even better. I’m checking with Facebook PR, but the actions published could potentially be turned into Sponsored Stories, so Facebook could charge the app where they took place to make the stories appear more prominently in the feeds of people already subscribed to them. Facebook could essentially be taking content from apps and selling it back to them. If you were wondering what Facebook’s long-term game plan is, you’re staring at it. Pull content from everywhere, mix it with ads, keep you reading. And with the carrot of referral traffic to dangle, some developers may be happy to play along.
