Gatorade released a playable video game ad on Snapchat celebrating the career of tennis star Serena Williams. The game is called Serena Williams' Match Point, and it can be played within the ESPN Discover channel on Snapchat.

Bustamante and his group at Northwestern University whipped up a location-based, augmented-reality Android game called Ghost Hunter to test the theory with students. In the game, a player wanders around her neighborhood looking for ghosts and other monsters, and when the ghouls are in range, the app switches to a live view with an overlay of cross-hairs. The player shoots the ghost and a photo of the location is uploaded.

AFK's app makes it possible for gamers to send in-game messages to friends from their mobile phones. Basically, though online games typically have to be accessed from a laptop/desktop, the AFK app makes the chat functions of games compeltely mobile. The company is predicting with the rise of app's like World of Warcraft's Auction House for iPhone, MMOs will look for new ways to detach functions from the gaming environment so users can have access from anywhere. Interesting marketing opportunity: where in-game advertising may have been awkward, advertising on top of game services (such as chat) may be more palatable.

Lisa Marino notes that advertising has become a good source of revenue for them. "In the case of Zoo World, that franchise generates 40% of its net revenue after Facebook Credits from ad units. It's very, very highly tuned to ads because we found that our ARPPU overall was much higher than trying to continue to tune for digital goods monetization in games that are very 40-year-old mom-centric." Marino was bullish on the future of advertising for RockYou.
