Welcome to the Language Technology Boot Camp Site. The first Boot Camp was initiated because the language residents at the Oldenborg Center at Pomona College did not receive any training in the use of technology in foreign language learning and teaching. Many had never encountered the possibilities that a private liberal arts college offers and most had not been familiar with the teaching and learning styles and philosophy prevalent at our institution.
Therefore the first Boot Camp was conducted at Pomona College in August 2006. After talks with colleagues at other colleges I found that this was a novelty, as usually only faculty get trained in these matters and that language residents or assistants usually fall through the cracks. But especially these teacher/students are the ones with a lot of enthusiasm, current cultural knowledge, native-speaker abilities, and a more open and relaxed relationship with new technologies and possibilities.
As I was planning the 2007 Boot Camp, which underwent several changes, the idea was born that all this work and preparation should be shared, and also that if others contributed to this Boot Camp, the program would be better than if only I prepared everything.
What is Conjuguemos?
Think of Conjuguemos as an online workbook for your Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Latin language students. The site stores a large amount of practice activities, with more exercises added during the year by our users. Teachers can also create their own activities.
If you just want your students to practice on one of the exercises in the Conjuguemos library, or access worksheets/games for those activities, then you can stick to the demo version. If you want to do any of the following, you should create an account:

I originally wrote Survival Statistics for my students, but then realized how important the information was to everyone. If you're conducting a survey then you need to learn statistics. Survival Statistics focuses on concepts... not formulas.

The Edible Tour is designed for use as a tool for members of the Caltech Community to become aware of the abundance of edible plants on campus and how they can use those plants. The Google Earth link allows users to find the locations of all the edible plants on campus and gives a description of the plant, its edible uses, and its medicinal uses (if any).
"Reviewing the Kanji" is a reviewing aid that helps you keep track of, and schedule reviews for over two thousand kanji. "Reviewing the Kanji" is a web-based application. There are several advantages over PC/Mac flashcard programs: * Because it focuses on the kanji, the interface can be simplified and there is no time wasted learning yet another PC program. * Although there are many flashcard applications implementing the Leitner system, it is hard to find pre-defined flashcard sets for James Heisig's keywords. * Because it is web-based, it is possible to create a sense of community through the members list, a forum, and other features to come. Studying the kanji with a self-study method can be quite a lonely task if you do not have direct contacts within a japanese community or with other persons sharing your interest. It is my hope that this website will foster motivation and help users to persevere with the method and complete Volume I of "Remembering the Kanji".
Lesson study is a simple idea. If you want to improve instruction, what could be more obvious than collaborating with fellow teachers to plan, observe, and reflect on lessons? While it may be a simple idea, lesson study is a complex process, supported by collaborative goal setting, careful data collection on student learning, and protocols that enable productive discussion of difficult issues.

PeerCentered is a space for peer writing tutors/consultants or anyone interested in writing centers to blog with their colleagues from around the world. "CorpusLAB is a new FREE site for language learners and language teachers. CorpusLAB is designed to promote language learning based on real English used in different settings.
Students can use the site to take a variety of exercises created by teachers. Go to the Student pages and select a topic area (phrasal verbs, Academic English etc.). If you register, you will be able to keep track of your progress.
Teachers can use the site in different ways. The central engine of the site is a series of exercise authoring tools. The exercises, which include fill-the-gap, multiple-choice, matching, reorder, and categorise, are designed in a way that promotes the learning of collocations and phrasal patterns. For example, the matching exercise allows up to five columns of items rather than the usual two. One of the aims of the site is to build up resources for specialised English: Medical English, English for Tourism, and so on. "
Welcome to Tonguetide, the language-learning social network. Like Facebook and Twitter, Tonguetide is a place to connect with people, except that here you'll be meeting people who want to learn languages too.
Chat: You can practise your language skills with real native speakers by messenger (like Facebook Chat), video chat (like Skype), or our internal mailing system (email).
