GEOGEBRA:
Throughout the notes, you will find many GeoGebra applets. These are interactive Java applets. To activate them, just click on them, and wait for the applet to load. If you're using Internet Explorer, you may have to click on the "Allow ActiveX control" warning bar at the top of your browser, for the applet to load. I encourage you to download GeoGebra yourself, or use the "Web Start" option, over at http://www.geogebra.org . It's very easy to use, and a lot of fun!
Experience Geometry on your desktop and on the web
Easily create startling geometric constructions! Starting from simple triangle relations, continuing with trigonometric theorems up to fractals and transformation groups Cinderella lets you create and manipulate visualizations in an intuitive, yet powerful way. Using Java® technologies, constructions are seamlessly exported to the WWW. And even better: you can get this for free!
Nice list of resources from around the world, some of the sites are not in English, but most are. Worth looking at as there are a lot of connections to other topics.
***** "The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives (NLVM) is a library of uniquely interactive, web-based virtual manipulatives or concept tutorials, mostly in the form of Java applets, for mathematics instruction (K-12 emphasis). The project includes dissemination and extensive internal and external evaluation."
Pattern blocks are great tools for developing conceptual understanding. I hope to continue to see them used in classrooms, but the virtual kind can allow students to share their thinking with other students virtually. I like using screen capture, cut/paste, upload to a wiki, comment on characteristics/size/description of '1'/and sharing with students so that their thikning can be revisited from multiple venues (home, classroom, internet-broader audience).
