More than 500,000 men and women between the age of 50 and 71 participated in this 10-year study that concludes that 11% of deaths in men and 16% of deaths in women could have been prevented if participants cut their red meat consumption. [The study was published 3 years ago, but it's still interesting]. Mostly empirical, though also a bit subjective.

Non-native Burmese pythons introduced to Florida 30 years ago are likely causing mammal decline in the area (the probabilities presented in the article are subjective).

I was planning on bookmarking just one of these, but this page has a list of seriously cool and diverse data visualizations ranging from interconnectivity of the web to the history of Great Britain.

anyqs In the munterbund visualization what do they use to connect the words to eachother?

anyqs I'd love to see other stats about each team to go along with time played. Runs scored and runs against is the first thing I thought of when I saw Boston/NYY at the top and SEA at the bottom. Pitches per plate appearance could also be interesting, as could the number of extra inning games. I would also love to see number of nationally televised games because the ESPN/FOX games tend to have longer commercial breaks.

anyqs this seems like way to simple of a figure for what it could display. The overall total playing time for a team would, in my opinion, not be as interesting as comparing players across teams or maybe including the post season

anyqs As an exchange student, I am not familiar with MLB. Whether each team has to play the same number of games each season? From this chart, I thought it was not with grate help. Because the data are close to each other and I am not sure whether the different color have different meanings

Has a couple of videos with very detailed data visualization techniques employed by the New York Times to monitor the way their social media articles propagate through the internet. It evolves with time and shows many variables including the number of user's reading it and their locations. 

Should be related to computer and hardware engineering. Helps manufactures and developers determine the popular hardware/software (in a gaming community at least) and give them heads up on what the consumer expect/like in future production.

This article approaches probability axiomatically. The scientists first estimated how many of the fragments of satellite would burn up on reentry based on their size. Then, for the components they expect survived the reentry, they determined the probability that they would hit any populated area and cause damage. They reasoned that since most of the planet's surface is water, there is a greater probability for the satellite debris to land in the ocean rather than on land.

For all the odds that don't really matter.
