Venture Accelerator Partners recap and summarize the Entrepreneurship 101 lecture on Marketing with guest lecturer, Mark Evans.

The Venture Accelerator Partners posted a blog with a listing of events that would be useful for start-ups and small businesses. The How Open Source Can Ensure Success for Technology Start-ups on October 11 and the Basic Nuts and Bolts of Building a Business on October 19 events were both mentioned.

The UAE's Ministry of Economy (MoE) and Canada's MaRS Discovery District of Toronto, Ontario, and Sustainable Development Technology - Canada (SDTC) signed separate memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to enhance business ties. The strategic partnership is aimed at fostering innovation and accelerating growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), in accordance with the UAE's strategy to build competitive knowledge-based economy. 

Locationary Inc., which is dedicated to improving the quality of local business data for mobile and web content, has secured $2.5-million from new investors, including the Investment Accelerator Fund and Trellis Capital. Existing investors Extreme Venture Partners, Plazacorp Ventures, Angels and Management were also involved in the financing.

MaRS' Investment Accelerator Fund is looking to invest in information technology, cleantech, advanced materials, manufacturing and life sciences early-stage growth companies. There is a separate fund of $7 million in funding announced for just life sciences

Waterfront Toronto will embark on public consultants regarding the change in the Port Lands redevelopment. Participants in the study will be asked their ideas on the transformation the Hearn generating station into an R&D accelerator similar to the MaRS Centre.

Jet Cooper announces the launch of the Design in Residence program with Montreal's FounderFuel, Waterloo's VeloCity and Toronto's MaRS Commons. The new program - slated to start in January - will provide early stage companies at some of Canada's top startup accelerators with user experience design mentorship, resources and education.

Three of Toronto's innovative technology companies will each receive $500,000 in funding from the province's Investment Accelerator fund, designed to support the launch of innovative companies in sectors considered important to the future of the province's economy. The web site includes comprehensive databases for trade-marks, copyrights, industrial designs, etc. It also has information that is useful for first time inventors, including a section for learning about IP, and a range of publications such as guides to trade-marks, copyrights, and patents.
