Ryerson University's Digital Media Zone (DMZ) announced its sixth and newest graduate, Shape Collage. Shape Collage is a MaRS Client and is a MaRS Up-Start Competition Champion.

The Canadian Innovation Exchange (CIX) will be held at the MaRS Centre on December 1, 2011 and showcase an elite index of innovative companies. Ilse Treurnicht CEO of MaRS Discovery District will be present.

Over 70 companies, entrepreneurs and financiers have signed on to provide advice, services and/or investment to the program, including Polar Mobile, Google, Zynga, CFC Media Lab, The Working Group, Media Profile, PostMedia Network Inc., Global Accelerator Network, and the Jet Cooper Web design agency in Toronto.

The Working Group, Media Profile, Global Accelerator Network and Postmedia Network Inc. have also partnered with JOLT. JOLT was created by MaRS and is a new technology accelerator dedicated to building high-growth web and mobile companies that promise to transform the way consumers and enterprises connect, work and play.

Flybits is a MaRS Innovation spinoff company from Ryerson University. Flybits has developed an innovative, context-aware software as a service framework called FARE (Flybits Activity Recognition Engine). "Flybits CEO and Founder Hossein Rahnama was among the entrepreneurs of Ryerson University's Digital Media Zone to meet the Prince of Wales and demonstrate his cloud-based and context-aware software solution."

MaRS launches a new space for technology entrepreneurs in Toronto, offering co-working space, mentorship and networking, access to capital, market intelligence and education programs.

Finizi Corp, a MaRS Client, provides a free online platform where financial institutions are able to bid for the business of customers in live and fully-transparent auctions. Finizi is conveniently located in Ryerson University's Digital Media Zone. Since Finizi's launch they have generated over 100 registered users, generating $7 million of pending and completed sales within three days.

Greg Meckback, Digital Media Editor from Daily Commercial News states "Toronto real estate developer Tridel is partnering with Cisco Systems Inc. to use Internet Protocol (IP) technology to improve energy efficiency, security and entertainment systems in its buildings....TowerLabs with Tridel co-founded with the MaRS Discovery District, is getting feedback from focus groups on devices such as programmable thermostats or the possibility of putting programmable thermostat functions on a portable electronic device such as Apple Inc.'s iPhone."

Dr. Hossein Rahnama, Research & Innovation Lead at Ryerson's Digital Media Zone, is a world authority on location-based context-aware mobile services.  MaRS Innovation  is in the process of working with Dr. Rahnama to spin out a company called Flybits.  Dr. Rahnama is interviewed on Metro Morning.

The cache optimization technology of Nevex Virtual Technologies CacheWorks 1.0 lets data storage administrators accelerate specific data by application, file type and location. The product installs on physical and virtual servers, and offloads I/O from primary storage to local high-performance media so storage is used for capacity, not overprovisioned for performance.

InGamer Sports, a MaRS Client, has developed an innovative technology that takes fantasy-league sports players from "being general managers to being head coaches." According to Nic Sulsky, CEO of InGamer, the company launched "in partnership with The Hockey News and the NHLPA May 27 in time for game one of the Stanley Cup Finals -- does so by allowing gamers to interact with the games in real-time, while they are being played, using their computer or mobile device, and to interact with other gamers at the same time through social media apps."
