PhotoPlus Seminar: Boosting Your Web Site's Search Engine Rankings\n\nBlake Discher says the second thing he does when he gets up in the morning is a Google search on "Detroit photographer" to make sure his site comes up first in the search results. If it doesn't, he tweaks the site to re-establish his king-of-the-hill status. His seminar, "Is Your Web Site Doing All It Can to Make You Money?" was all about how to put your own site at the top of search engine rankings. The technical term for it, by the way, is Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Skip to content * Home * About * Subscribe to Posts * Subscribe to Posts Photo Collectives On The Rise I like this trend where photographers form groups and publish their work on a website or print something for sale. It certainly gives those looking to hire another resource to check out and like some agencies there's often a thread between all the work so if you're looking for a specific style you can spend some time exploring. Seems like a good way to build a fan base too.

Tips and Tricks for the 5D MKII - PART II - Audio « Vincent Laforet's Blog - 0 views

Tips and Tricks for the 5D MKII - PART II - Audio Monday December 08th 2008, 2:10 am Filed under: Articles, Hardware One of the most common questions that I get relates to audio and the Canon 5D MKII. My first recommendation is always to record your audio independently - i.e. with a separate device. This gives you much greater freedom with your edit when you have a continuous sound recording - and are now free to cut between shots even if they weren't sequential. If you want to shoot stills and video - an independent audio recording device allows you to cut between stills and video - shot with the same camera.

« Previous | Main | Next » Photojournalism today Phil Coomes | 09:20 UK time, Friday, 14 August 2009 Phnom Penh, Cambodia by Christine Spengler / Sygma / CorbisThe world of photojournalism is in a state of flux. In recent times, two of the industry's most respected agencies have run into trouble. Last week, the financial problems at the Gamma photo agency in Paris came to light and another one-time giant of the industry, Sygma, also closed its doors to new photographers a few years ago following its acquisition by Corbis.

BBC - Viewfinder: Adrian Evans on future funding of photojournalism - 1 views

  •
"In the third of a series of articles on photojournalism Adrian Evans, Director of Panos Pictures, suggests that photojournalists should cast off the past and look to new models of funding. "Working in photojournalism it sometimes feels as though industry commentators are circling like vultures waiting to pick over the corpse of our industry. "They misguidedly link the fortunes of photojournalists to that of newspapers and magazines, referring to an almost mythical past, a golden age when newspapers were the champions and supporters of photojournalism. Whether this era ever really existed is debatable. What is undeniably true is that newspapers ceased being the paymasters of photojournalists a long time ago. Quality photojournalism is expensive - researching the story, gaining access, spending time with your subjects, post production and editing - there are no short cuts. Newspapers and magazines spend a tiny proportion of their income on content and they certainly don't want to spend it on photography."

Photographic truth and Photoshop | David Campbell -- Photography, Multimedia, Politics - 0 views

Photographic truth and Photoshop April 17th, 2009 Photography's anxiety about truth, manipulation and reality has been on show recently. In different ways and from different contexts, people have been asking: "how much Photoshop is too much"? From the realm of fashion, French Elle is being celebrated for running a cover story in which the models photographs have not been 'Photoshopped' (thereby confirming, as I've noted previously, that digital manipulation is the norm in this visual domain). From the world of photojournalism, blogs like 1854, PDNPulse and the Online Photographer (with a follow-up here) have been buzzing with the story of the Danish photographer Klavs Bo Christensen who was excluded from that country's Picture of the Year competition for excessive colour manipulation of his Haiti story. Along with two others, Christensen was asked to submit his RAW files to the competition judges who felt that the colour in his photographs had been excessively saturated (their debate can be heard here), and removed his images from the competition as a result. Christensen was subsequently happy to have his files put on the web for comparison and discussion, thereby performing an important service to the photographic community.

Behind the Scenes: Digital Manipulation - Lens Blog - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  •
Update | Thursday, 3:03 p.m. Edgar Martins, the photographer at the heart of the current controversy, has told Lens and at least one other blog, Jain, that he will be telling his side of the story soon. The text of his e-mail response to requests for interviews, identical to both blogs, is shown below in italics. Original post | There's probably no more troubling issue facing photojournalism than the digital manipulation of images that are supposed to faithfully represent what's in front of the camera. Digital technology permits so many interventions - some acutely obvious, others so subtle that only computers can detect them - that the line has blurred between manipulation and the kind of enhancement and editing that viewers customarily expect; like cropping, color correction, burning and dodging.
