A practical guide for teaching faculty about teaching online.

I have obtained Ko and Rossen's books 2008 and 2010. The latter edition is more useful and comes with this resources site. The online guide link contains a PDF list of very useful resources to provide to faculty on our website or in our community site. We can link to it or obtain permission - I'll bet.

The handouts listed below provide strategies and tips that can help you improve your teaching effectiveness and strengthen student learning. The Teaching Center has designed these handouts for use by Washington University faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. Others are welcome to read these materials and to create links to them from external Web sites.

I like the 4 phase model of this book.

Hi Rick I do love this book and I have been using it since last year. My Assistive Techonolgy program is using this book too. Yoosun, one of the AT faculty, demonstrated the first phase from the book and did reflection. Joe D. recorded that session and I think it might be useful for other faculty to use the book. The Excel based rubric templates towards the bottom look like they have some interesting potential for automating grading -- not sure, haven't tried them out. The online participation rubric seems very good.

"After 35+ years of planning, teaching, and writing, I have come to the conclusion that there is no easy way to create instruction or write effective curriculum, despite what other authors/vendors/publishers may promise. That is especially true today when there are infinite choices on what to include. There are plenty of good ways to attempt to do this like curriculum mapping or backwards design, but before folks begin that process, they need to ask a series of hard questions designed to help clarify what to include and what to omit."
