    This is the article which defines critical characteristics of situated learning enviroment. The authors used a lot of literature in the analysis part of the study. The purpose of this study was firstly, to identify critical characteristics of a situated learning environment from the extensive literature base on the subject; secondly, to operationalise the critical characteristics of a situated learning environment by designing a multimedia program which incorporated the identified characteristics; and thirdly, to investigate students' perceptions of their experiences using an multimedia package based on a situated learning framework. I think it will helpful us while we are searching for more articles on situated learning, because it has an extensive reference list.

    I am now convinced of the opportunities of learning that can be provided by games after reading the following quote: "While commercial video games often offer worlds in which players prepare for the actions of soldiers or thieves, the question arises as to whether other types of games could let players prepare for action from different perspectives or identities such as a particular type of scientist, political activist, or global citizen, for instance. "

    I remember many years ago I read a science fiction book about a game which was created to select the President. (Spoiler - The winner of the game was a 13 old year boy:)) Actually games are very interesting and will be very useful for education but the main problem here is the nature of market and the cost. Last week I was reading an article about mobile learning, I think this quote is meaningful for games too "In any case, hardware devices and technical systems are all without exception designed, manufactured, and marketed for corporate, retail, or recreational users. Any educational uses of the devices and the systems are necessarily parasitic and secondary." We have to consider education as "building the nation, building our future" then we can afford the cost and then educational games, devices will not be secondary...

    Yelda, honestly, I also used to question the contribution of video games to learning and nowadays, as seeing more examples like the one you shared, I guess yes perspective are changing:) I believe as we also discussed in the forum, the most critical thing is how the material, video or something else is presented to the learners and used, not the material itself.

    In this study, resarchers has created a virtual learning enviroment by considering situated learning theory. The results explained that VR features and perceived usefulness variables were predictors for situated learning. Moreover,the results are found to be statistically significant and indicate that situated learning helps to improve the motivation to learn.

    SJTs have long history of being used for measuring situated cognition; they have been used from 1920's(McDaniel, et. al., 2001). Although SJT has been originated from the conception of measuring dimensions, it has been viewed as a measurement method(e.g., McDaniel, et. al., 2001; Weekly & Jones, 1999) because it has been difficult to delineate the dimensions and situations. The situations represented by scenarios in SJTs are viewed as method from psychometric sense, meaning that situation effect, scenario effect, or method effect are all interchangeable.

    This source brings a focus to our readings I think; the assessment part. The example was partly hard for me to follow I have to say,I kinda got lost :) But I found the idea of the togetherness of knowledge dimensions and situational scenarios as methods. Thank you sharing

    Zoos can be interesting and valuable places to have stiuated learning experiences. I have seen situated learning videos of Australia zoo which has programs like being a zookeper for a day or adapting an animal.

    Thank you for the source; as also Burcu provided an example of his work, he is important for this topic. He is mainly concerned with linguistics and has many studies of discourse analysis. The effect of video games on learning is one of his main concerns.

    Of course population has significant affect on education and its quality. But we have to also remember that Finland's equal system doesn't care about school's population,distance, social differences, gender, religion or anything else. So the mentality of wholistic idea is to reach every child even though they live in a very small island within 10families or less. I observed that and this is just impressive. What we may gain from them is that population is just the quantity, lets focus on quality and equity!:)well as much as we can do!

    The compulsory and voluntary intense in-service trainings for all grade teacher as in Japan and Korea, is very critical I think. These training are very well structured focusing on different topics such as educational philosophies, relationships with parents or different instructional methods.

    I agree with Canan. Because I know that Shanghai-China is the first country according to latest PISA results. Also, Shanghai's population is over 14,5 million. With this population they can have high achievement level in an international exam. I think the success is not related to population. This is only related to educational policies. Especially teachers quality have huge impact on countries success in such exams. Educational policies on teacher candidates' selection and education should be revised as soon as possible. As turkish idiom said: "Az olsun ve öz olsun-less number- higher quality"(I'm not sure about the translation, can English teacher friends help me that point?.). Goverment should select teacher as many as the country need.
