Microsoft HoloLens - 0 views

Microsoft HoloLens is the first self-contained, holographic computer, enabling you to engage with your digital content and interact with holograms in the world around you. It is a miraculous device, I think. When watched the video, it is einevitable not to be excited. Its sale is only for app developer and it is also expensive, 3000 $. However, as it become widespread and develop, it may be a routine device. Also there is another video video, shot at Case Western Reserve University, shows doctors examining bodies as they float in midair, creating a new way to teach anatomy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKpKlh1-en0 Think about the time when that device become reachable easily, think about using it at the classes commonly. Maybe changing curriculum according to these or another augmented reality ones. I think, there could be revolution at education with these steps in the future. That pictures are taken from the presentation of that device; http://s01.shiftdelete.net/img/general_b/15-10/06/hololens.jpg http://s01.shiftdelete.net/img/content/15-10/06/hololens-2-1444146365.JPG Also, there is a funny(or sad) photoshop work related to possible usage of device at our country; http://s11.postimg.org/cukj78a4z/holoturk.png

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi: Flow, the secret to happiness - 0 views

  •
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's Ted Talk about how the flow term is appeared. Beyond, how he started to deal with psychology and the only aim of him to find an answer to "What makes a life worth living?" He searched an answer at different area and find the best answer at psychology. Although he know nothing about Carl Jung, even he doesn't know the name of him (I am surprised to that); after participating at one of his conference; he affected and started to deal with psychology. Finally, after this studies, he appeared the term, 'flow'.

I also add the most famous painting of Dali, persistence of memory. Because flow term remind me that painting. I think we are at our surreal world at the flow instance and also the time term is completely lost. http://www.dalipaintings.com/images/paintings/the-persistence-of-memory.jpg
  •
I like this painting of Dali! Although it can be commented in various ways, we can comment it from the point of view of flow theory like; in the flow moment you don't realize time flies until that moment ends. Thus, I agree with you that it really fits into distortion of sense of time.

    and they have different interests.

The inherent curiosity in human beings is well explained, science education is kind of lucky in that sense maybe, one of our essentials is already here for us.
  •
I exactly agree this sentence. there is a drawing related to this issue..:D http://mommacommaphd.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/facebook_460632723.jpg

I totally agree, children manage to see the things from so different perspective from us that I always surprised with their way of thinking in my practice classess. I think every children born with the instinction of curiosity which is a gift for human beings. As a teacher we should trigger that force instead of putting barriers front of fit.
  •
I also follow that blog, so interesting publishes she has. For this one, Children have no idea about their environment for the first sight. So they wonder, explore, make sense of it and try to get into use. Isn't it similar with the process of scientists? And they are maybe even more creative than those. Wish we keep the child in ourselves as long as possible:)
  •
I wish he were not a scientist but eventually he is especially in the kitchen he can create different tastes he prepares coctails for himself and drinks it and tries new forms of chemical experiements and reaches different tastes it goes on like this :)
  •
I totally agree with the idea. If you had a chance of observing little kids around you, you may have seen that they have lots of questions that even we as grown ups do not know the answer. also, the simple answers that you provide for them are never enough for them. Our professor Mr. Ok shared his experience with one of his colleague's daughter. a five year old girl learned from her parents that she came to the world as her father and mother loved each other so much. When she saw that our professor do not have a child she concluded that he doesn't love his wife so much :) and then her parents had to provide a new answer for her curiosity about how she came to world.

The table the authors provide, suggests some important distinctions between experimentation and design based research.

Hey you are hero! As a 'novice' I was searching for all these different resarch methods which I am supposed make comparison.Since I didnt have any idea, it helped me a lot ;)
  •
hey thank you, yes I also made great use of it :)
  •
I also like studying with tables they make the concepts clear in my mind. It is a nice one summarizing the differences between DBR and experimental research. Thanks for sharing it here:)
  •
Nice table. What I like about DBR is its flexibility as mentioned in the Table. You can make revisions on your design whenever necessary.
  •
Yes I totally agree and also the participants not being assigned as objects can be another important advantage.

The school system serving the needs of industrialism - 1 views

Upon coming across this cartoon, I've felt an urge to share it with you because it touches on some relevant issues we've been discussing since the very beginning of the course. Please first click on the picture to enlarge it, and sorry for this inconvenience :)
  •
Thanks for your share Yasin :) This cartoon reminds me of the education in Turkey. While areas like science, math, biology are thought to be important, unfortunately art, literature, music, dance etc. are underestimated. They are thought to be just hobbies and not enough attention is given to them. People interested in these areas are thought to be wasting their time or unsuccessful. Again unfortunatelly we cannot change this perception. I wish there were more people around me who were given the chance to show their talents and whose talents do not fade away.
  •
You're welcome Seda :) It is even more depressing to know that this perception won't change as long as we live under today's economical perceptions. It is simply "be a part of the system or get ready to be called as marginal" :)

What are Novice and Expert Learners? - 4 views

  •
You can find a brief summary of how expert can be defined. I think this will helpful for your readings.
  •
Is it valid for any kind of knowledge or subject area that expert learners follow some of those guidelines? Are there any previous ideas or "expertise" in such a field to learn as experts? Are expert learners use those learning styles in any topic even they do not have any particular idea about it?
