"Resources for AAC Strategies and Tools (RAST) is a compilation of tools and strategies to assist teams in providing collaborative services in line with clinical knowledge and researched practices. RAST's purpose is to provide teams with concise user-friendly resources for organizing, teaching, and building teams that support users of AAC. Intervention supporting users of assistive technologies is a dynamic process (King, Baroody & Haymes, 1998; Beukelman & Mirenda,1992)."

Phrasal Verbs: Usage and Acquisition - 1 views

  •
The purpose of this paper is to explore the gradual development of verb-particle constructions in child language by examining longitudinal data from the spontaneous oral speech of Naima, an English-speaking girl from the Providence Corpus of the CHILDES database (MacWhinney, 2000; Demuth, Culbertson & Alter, 2006), between ages 0;11 and 3;10. My findings also support the claim that input and interaction play a major role in the language acquisition process. Indeed, by analyzing the emergence and usage of phrasal verbs by Naima, I will thus compare the top ten verb-particle construction types used by the child and the adult. Ultimately, I will show the correlation between the most frequently used phrasal verbs in adult speech and the earliest constructions acquired by Naima

Timeline allows students to create a graphical representation of an event or process by displaying items sequentially along a line. Timelines can be organized by time of day, date, or event, and the tool allows users to create a label with short or long descriptive text. Adding an image for each label makes a timeline more visually appealing.

It can be difficult at first to shift from thinking about AAC in pre-programmed phrases and sentences and activity based pages to focusing on using core words. Once the shift is made; however, it becomes easy to look at using core words in natural, everyday occurrences as core words make up 75-80% of everyone's daily, natural language. Listed below are daily activities that typically occur in a classroom and ways to use core words during these activities at the one-word, two-word, and three-word level to help get the thinking process started. Notice how many of the core words and phrases can be used throughout the day in various situations and activities.

Every student learns and develops at his or her own pace. Education is not about how fast a student can acquire information. Instead, it's about developing useful strategies individuals can use to process and integrate life's experiences in order to achieve whatever they choose to do with the time they are given.
