3 Utah Caregivers Jailed After Disabled Woman Dies - FoxNews.com - 0 views

  • Three suspects held Monday in the death of a disabled woman are accused of beating her, putting a pepper seed in one of her eyes, and wrapping her arms and hands with bandages so she couldn't remove it, authorities said.
    • Adam Mazurek

I wonder what made these three people hurt and kill this disabled woman like that.
  • Investigators found Harms' body covered in bruises with marks on her wrists and ankles, Unified police spokesman Justin Hoyal said Monday.
    • Adam Mazurek

If the investigators found bruises on the woman, why haven't the three people been charged with battery yet?
  • Investigators believe the small, oval-shaped pepper seed found under one of Harms' eyelids would have caused a burning sensation, Hoyal said.
    • Adam Mazurek

Who would have even thought of putting a pepper seed in someone's eye? This is just horrible.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • Harms also had a 2-year-old daughter who is now in state custody, Hoyal said.
    • Adam Mazurek

This is very sad. I hope the daughter can recover well mentally. I can't even imagine a two year old losing their mom that young.
  • No bail had been set for any of the suspects, and no charges had yet been filed.
    • Adam Mazurek

I don't understand why there have been no charges placed on the three people yet.
  •
In Salt Lake City, a disabled woman was found dead in her home. Investigators say that she was beat up, had a pepper seed in one of her eyes and her arms and hands were wrapped in bandages. The three people who take care of the woman were put in jail with no bail. No charges have been given yet to these three caretakers.

  • As news of his disappearance spread, hundreds of members of the public also fanned out to help search the area, Tranum Klitplantage, in north Jutland. Police got an unprecedented number of calls offering assistance, commissioner Poul Badsberg of North Jutland police told CNN.

FBI eyes cross-burning in prosperous Calif town | The Dickinson Press | Dickinson, Nort... - 0 views

  • An 11-foot cross was stolen from a church and set on fire next to the home of a black family, igniting anger and disbelief in a prosperous, mostly white Central California community that hasn't seen a hate crime in nearly a decade.
    • Robyn Allen

First of all how do you steal an 11 foot cross and not arise suspicion? And obviously people were hiding their feelings. I can't believe that this actually happened.
  • Police assigned extra patrols to the neighborhood in Arroyo Grande and rewards were offered for information leading to an arrest. Church leaders were urged to mention the family in their prayers.
    • Robyn Allen

No offense to the church but I wouldn't want their prayers. It is pretty obvious that it was someone who goes to the church. It doesn't matter if they put noew patrols out. What will happen will happen.
  • “I was horrified,” said the Rev. Stephanie Raphael, president of the San Luis Obispo Ministerial Association. “We live in a paradise, and I think the first thought was, this can't really be real.”
    • Robyn Allen

This is a very naive lady. I'm only 16 and there has been discrimination against me. It honestly doesn't surprise me that something like this happened.
  • ...10 more annotations...
  • A 19-year-old woman awoke about 12:30 a.m. and saw the flaming cross from her bedroom window. Arriving officers doused burning pieces of wood with a garden hose.
    • Robyn Allen

Why did she wake up? Who is she? Where were the firefighters?
  • A telephone call to the house was not answered Tuesday.
    • Robyn Allen

What house? This sentence confuses me...
  • Police declined to release the names of the family members because the incident was considered a hate crime — the first since 2002 in the city of 17,000 people in mostly rural San Luis Obispo County, a region of vast farms, picturesque small towns and a state university campus.
    • Robyn Allen

Once again an unnecessary statement. It happened. Let's do something to prevent more from happening instead of just sitting around looking at how long it's been since the last one!
  • “Any kind of hate crime is not a joke, it's not a prank,” Raphael told The Associated Press. “It's designed to intimidate and frighten. We live in a beautiful area but it's only beautiful if every single person feels safe conducting their lives and living here.”
    • Robyn Allen

I honestly thought America had grown up. People are just so single minded and uneducated. I wish that people saw how we ar all the same. If we fall down we feel embarrassment and hurt when we scrape our knees. We learn, we cry, and we die the same way as everybody. Why are black people targeted as different? Couldn't they turn around and do the same thing?
  • No suspects had been identified and few tips were being received, even though $3,500 in rewards were offered.
    • Robyn Allen

Why would anyone rat out a friend for $3,500? Especially somewhere that they had hate crimes... They sound like uneducated people.
  • There was no evidence that an organized racist group was involved, Hough said.
    • Robyn Allen

How is there no evidence?! That is one of the main things that the KKK did!
  • “Jesus Christ Superstar”
  • It was usually bolted to a base in the garden, but each year it was taken inside the sanctuary during the Lenten season before being moved to a beach two miles away to be decorated with flowers for an Easter sunrise service.

So it was definitely someone from the church. Let's start the investigation.
  • “It's such a violation,” he said. “You know, the cross originally was an instrument of violence. ... but Christ redeemed it. Through the cross has come forgiveness and peace.”
    • Robyn Allen

Obviously they didn't get the message that it was redeemed.
  • “We wanted to bathe this family in prayer and love,” the pastor said. “Obviously they're feeling rejection and ... hate.”
    • Robyn Allen

I really wouldn't want their sympathy after what happened...

Tokyo Issues Tap Water Warning for Infants - NYTimes.com - 0 views

They already had a great loss of money and now they have to have water imported? How much does it cost to buy water for all of Japan?

What other options do they have? Importing water is really the only choice they have. The water is probably too contaminated to even touch with your bare skin. Its unsafe and we need to get water over there.

Health care's hidden costs: $363 billion - Mar. 23, 2011 - 0 views

  • a new industry report revealed that consumers may be paying billions of dollars more in out-of-pocket health care expenses than was previously thought.
    • Cole Gentry

Figures. The government always trys to get us to believe that all of these programs are better than they really are. There is always so many hidden cost and fees with everything the government does.
  • These "hidden" costs of health care -- like taking time off to care for elderly parents -- add up to $363 billion
    • Cole Gentry

363 billion dollars? How does that much money comsidered "hidden" cost. That absured knowing that we already pay a lot for health care and plus these "hidden" cost.
  • That amounts to $1,355 per consumer, on top of the $8,000 the government says people spend on doctor fees and hospital care.
    • Cole Gentry

An extra $1,355 per consumer?! How knows how this is saying money.. Probably for the people that need to go to the hospital and aren't even a citizen of a America or just not a tax paying citizen.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • The report estimates the value of unpaid care is $12.60 per hour, or $199 billion a year.
    • Cole Gentry

199 billion dollars in unpaid care?! That's crazy. How is so much unpaid and why do we let it get that high?
  • The average household income fell 1.9% last year while health care costs rose 6%, he said."This is a perfect storm in which consumers' hidden costs will only increase exponentially in the near future."
    • Cole Gentry

Honesty, this country is going to fall apart. Forsurew within the next century. The government is to corrupt and so is all the major stock market industrys. This care plan isn't gonna do that much better. Besides it will just get apprealed and they will try to reform the current healthcare plan when a repbluican goes back into office.

Sharp Scrutiny for Merger of AT&T and T-Mobile - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  • Sharp Scrutiny for Merger of AT&T and T-Mobile
    • Rob High

Hi Mrs. Laur! This is the one I said I did on Monday and wasn't sure if it was up. It wasn't, so I'm redoing it.
  • But the proposed merger of AT&T and T-Mobile is likely to face intense scrutiny by regulators, lawmakers and consumer advocates.
    • Rob High

Verizon is trash as it is. It would be nice to watch two good businesses form into something better for the sake of the people. Yes you are simplifying the market and making less competitions which gives a chance for prices to rise. But it is there business and this economy it may be a better option then both businesses going down and out.
  • criticized the Bush administration’s record on antitrust review, and promised to increase scrutiny of merger proposals.
    • Rob High

There really wasn't anything big I remember happening during Bush's reign. Maybe there were some iffy mergers that were overshadowed by the war. But I don't see a reason Obama feels the need to rule with an iron fist and try and make them not do a merger that would only benefit either company and most likely have a higher odd chance to benefit the public.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • two primary agencies that will oversee any merger — the Federal Communications Commission and the Justice Department’s antitrust division — look at it with different goals in mind.
    • Rob High

Sounds like an amazing way to get things done and get things done right. Is it really that hard for people to stand in the middle and just make something thats right in general not right for their side.
  • more competition among wireless companies,
    • Rob High

At the prices phones are at now, yeah we should really do something. Thank god for Virgin mobile went from 75 a month to 25 a month with fewer dropped calls go figure.
  • For example, one objective involves pushing the big wireless companies to allow smaller competitors to use their networks for data roaming services.
    • Rob High

This part kind of confuses me. Bigger phone companies can't control space can they? If a smaller company wanted to put a tower or something in space to help signal Verizon can't say no can they?

Robbers steal Tampa couple's life savings - Local News - Tampa, FL - msnbc.com - 0 views

  • As Rodriguez bent to kiss his wife, Osilia, goodbye just after 2 a.m., one of the men shoved open the door and the two burst inside. The impact knocked the octogenarian couple to the hallway floor.
    • Michelle Perritt

I heard before that robbers often watch you for a few days to see what your schedule is like so that they can come at the perfect time. That is a good reason not to post anything on facebook or the internet saying that your out of town.
  • The first ransacking search of the tiny house on West State Street missed the strongbox tucked in the corner of the bedroom closet. They threatened Juan Rodriguez, who said Tuesday he wasn't scared for himself but was concerned about his wife.
    • Michelle Perritt

What made this older couple victums? Often older people aren't left with that much money because they have to save for their retirement. Also they live in a small house, it's not like they look rich.
  • "Maybe they heard we had a box," Juan Rodriguez said. "Maybe they heard we got money. You know what I mean?"
    • Michelle Perritt

Who would they have heard it from if not even their family knew that they had this money? That's what is not making sense to me.

    • Michelle Perritt

It always helps when the victum has a pretty good idea of what the people looked like. It is easier then for the police to find the people behind it. I wonder how long they would have to go to jail for this type of crime.

Soldier accused of killing Afghan citizens to stand trial - CNN.com - 0 views

  • Spc. Jeremy Morlock is charged with three counts of murder. He is accused of killing one Afghan civilian in January 2010 with a grenade and rifle; killing another in May 2010 in a similar manner; and shooting a third to death in February 2010.
    • Eric Sowers

These crimes seem very hanus. I think that with these crimes that they should seek the maximum punishment for murder.
  • n all, officials charged 12 U.S. soldiers in what they called a conspiracy to kill Afghan civilians and cover it up, along with charges they mutilated corpses and kept grisly souvenirs.
    • Eric Sowers

These do not seem like men who should be serving our country. Its bad if one or two are doing it but twelve of them. It needs to be looked into farther on how these soldiers are being trained and lead.
  • Two images show the soldiers kneeling by a bloody body sprawled over a patch of sand and grass. A third shows what appears to be two bodies propped up, back to back, against a post in front of a military vehicle.
    • Eric Sowers

I wonder how much trouble these other guys can get in for just taking pictures. It dosent seem like a crime to be taking pictures, maybe against military rules but not a crime.

California mother arrested for encouraging son to fight - CNN.com - 0 views

  • At one point in the video, circulated on the internet, the woman offers pointers to her son on how to win the fight. She also assures the combatants they have permission to fight in her yard and that she will not call the police.
    • Samantha Montalvo

This shows a lot of lack or parenting and good judgement. I wonder how the mother would feel if her child got in to a fight somewhere else without her being there and the other child's mother was helping their child.
  • "Jennifer can be heard and seen in the video yelling and encouraging her son to batter the other juvenile. Jennifer is heard yelling a barrage of profanities and enticing the fight,"

I don't see what the big deal is, kindle owns the rights to a large digital library. How come Google wouldn't have been able to make deals with people and get its own. It might have to do with making a monopoly on the market if those laws still exist.

    • Rob High

I think this might mean that the books would be free? Otherwise I don't see how this goes too far. It would be an easier way to provide kids with one computer so they could read thousands of books and learn instead of giving them thousands of real books for thousands more dollars.

Alright, so I think what is happening here is Google being the awesome business it is. Is trying to settle with a handful of lawyers to obtain rights to millions of books that the lawyers don't even represent. So people are mad that they feel like books would be getting less value and be more of a number. Which makes sense, but I'm not an author and my work isn't at risk here so I still feel like it's a good idea.

Suspect in attempted bombing at MLK Day parade to be arraigned - CNN.com - 0 views

  • A suspect in the attempted bombing of a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in Washington state is expected to be arraigned on federal charges Wednesday.
    • Davonta Covington

Now what reason would you do this? I think this crime is pointless in doing. Just because you may not like MLK day or even MLK himself, you dont have to indanger people for a parade. This is a biological crime to me. Just because he wants to do it, is saying his parents could have an affect on him on why he doesnt like MLK or the celebration of MLK day.
  • A grand jury indicted Kevin William Harpham, 36, of Colville, Washington, on one count of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and one count of possessing an unregistered explosive device.
    • Davonta Covington

Where does he get all of the explosives to actually blow things up? This needs to be the question that people need to answer. I think we as people need to figure out how to stop things like this from happening. Why are people being given explosives to do such crimes?
  • "He'd been on our radar screen for some years," said Mark Potok, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project. "He wasn't a major character but we were aware of him."
    • Davonta Covington

If this is the case then why not watch him for the most part? If he was a danger to people around him, he should be put on major watch because you never know what he can do to people. An as a result, you can see he tried to blow a entire parade up. This is why people die a lot. We take to much caution with people and then they end up killing people or hurting people around them. You cant watch everyone but at least try to do something to prevent deaths.

  • Apple filed a trademark protection over the phrase "App Store" after the release of the iPhone 3G

How could someone be upset with the victim of a rape case? Especially when there were about 12 suspects.
  • "But rape can be just bad as murder, and if they had killed an 11-year-old people would be outraged."

I dont understand how if she was murdered people would be upset but because she was "just" raped its okay to be mad at her.
  • In Texas, the girl's mother says she has been receiving harassing phone calls from people asking for her daughter.

Why are they calling looking for her and harrassing her instead of the boys that did this to her. Do they say why they are upset with her instead because this doesnt add up.

  • They're trying to find her."

Trying to find her for what?
  • Maria's daughter has told police that at least 20 teenagers and men attacked her on Thanksgiving.
    • destiny basnight

Why would a big group of 20 boys grab just one girl to rape when theres so many of them and why one so young?
  • Some are pointing a finger at the victim's parents.
    • destiny basnight

How would her parents have anything to do with her being raped?
  • "Where were they when this girl was seen wandering at all hours with no supervision and pretending to be much older?"
    • destiny basnight

It doesnt matter where they were the fact is their daughter was raped and she could have lied about where she was but a lot of teenagers do and people cant act like no one ever lies about where they are or their age or anything like that she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
  • Maria told the Chronicle she believes her daughter may have been seeking attention in the past and says she and her husband had once questioned their daughter about a lurid photo of a boy that was found on a cell phone she used, but she says the boys should have known better.
    • destiny basnight

Its a fact that majority of teen girls seek attention at one time or another and she could have came off a certain type of way but that doesnt give anyone the right to rape her.
  • "These guys knew she was in middle school,"
    • destiny basnight

Thats disgusting especially because they were between 17 and 27
  • The suspects claim they did not know her age,
    • destiny basnight

It does not matter how old she is the point is that they raped her whether shes 10 or 35 its wrong
  • "When you see five young men take advantage of an 11-year-old girl," Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith told The Detroit News, "it is our job to make sure they pay for it."
    • destiny basnight

This is how everyone in the others girls story should feel.
  • Maria says she has received so many angry phone calls that the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services has placed her daughter in foster care for her own safety.
    • destiny basnight

This is rediculous because why should a girl who was already violated and taken advantage of be scared to walk out of her own door to go to school. They're just making things worst for her.
  • I don't have any knowledge of that at all," he said. "[But] there has been some upset parents of those who were taken into custody, but of course I mean something like this in a small community tends to cause unrest for a lot of people."
    • destiny basnight

They're community is taking it the wrong way and need to see that when something is wrong its wrong and for the most part thats it. If someone is murdered is it the victims fault?
