Toddler shoots mom dead, boy's father tells Florida police - CNN.com - 0 views

  • (CNN) -- A toddler shot and killed his mother, the boy's father told South Florida police, who say they will talk to the 2-1/2-year-old
    • destiny basnight

Talk to him about what? Im sure it wasn't on purpose seeing as he is two years old.
  • The father, who called 911, told police he was trying to take the firearm away from the child when it discharged
    • destiny basnight

Wouldn't it be both of their faults?
  • "What we do know is that last Wednesday, shortly after 7 o'clock, we received a 911 call from a gentleman stating that his 2-1/2-year-old son accidentally shot his mother -- the boy's mother," Rues told HLN's Vinnie Politan
    • destiny basnight

I think they should not have had the gun around him and he especially shouldnt have had it in his hand.
  • ...8 more annotations...
  • Rues said investigators will talk to the toddler about the shooting, but that "due to the age, we're not expecting to get much."
    • destiny basnight

What could they possibly give him if he is only 2 years old?
  • In that roughly 4-1/2-minute call, a man's voice can be heard asking the dispatcher what to do. He speaks with a thick accent and seems overcome with emotion as he tries to explain what happened.
    • destiny basnight

I watched the video and this is true but it seemed as though he is blaming his son for the whole incident like it was not his fault at all his son had the gun and he said he was trying to remove the gun from his son but it should not have been that hard because he is 2.
  • "My son picked it up and I tried to grab it," the man said about the gun. "Oh God, I can't believe this."
    • destiny basnight

A lot of people do not believe him because during his call he also was acting god why he has put him in this spot when he is claiming that he did not do anything but try to take the gun from his son.
  • The boy's father could face charges of negligenc
    • destiny basnight

This is good not because i want them to make him out to be a bad father but how could a parent blame their child for such a thing and make it seem like it had nothing to do with him.
  • The father, who called 911, told police he was trying to take the firearm away from the child when it discharged.
    • Samantha Montalvo

I don't understand why the gun wasn't on some type of safety mode.
  • Bennett and the boy's father were not married and did not live together at the time of her death,
    • destiny basnight

Was the father upset with her? Or something like that which would influence him to do such a thing. Were they separated?
  • What we do know is that last Wednesday, shortly after 7 o'clock, we received a 911 call from a gentleman stating that his 2-1/2-year-old son accidentally shot his mother
    • Samantha Montalvo

It is really hard to believe that a two and a half year old is capable of shooting and killing his mother with a gun, or any other object.
  • "My son picked it up and I tried to grab it," the man said about the gun. "Oh God, I can't believe this."
    • Samantha Montalvo

This situation must be really hard for the father, because there is that chance that investigators will nor believe him that his son shot her, they might try to say that he shot her and is trying to blame it on his son.

'I am God' witness recalls hearing at sweat lodge ceremony - CNN.com - 0 views

Blood found in missing Maine mom Krista Dittmeyer's car - Crimesider - CBS News - 0 views

  • Dittmeyer's car was found with its engine running and hazard lights flashing in the Cranmore Mountain ski area parking lot in Conway
    • Seth Fahringer

Why would a kidnapper put on the hazard lights? Wouldn't that call attention to the scene? I thought the point to commit a crime was so that they could get away with it?
  • According to CBS affiliate WBZ, there is nothing to indicate that Dittmeyer left behind her car and child, who was found in the car, by choice.
    • Seth Fahringer

Was there anything to indicate that she left by force? I mean, I'm not doubting that this is a kidnapping but I also feel like there is something missing from this, like a puzzle piece is out of place...
  • "People have asked about suicide or mental illness, but there's nothing to indicate either of those things."

Why wouldnt they want the family to be buired together? Most families like to be buired with their loved ones.
  • Tensions mounted on Monday as family members filed past police officers standing guard outside the funeral home where the ceremony took place.

Why was there so muhc tension at th funneral? I think that people would have been able to put their difference aside because it was a funneral.
  • An Armstrong family member, Gwendolen Green, said the mother's relatives were largely banned from the ceremony and guests were checked against a list before being allowed entry
    • Kendra Yinger

I think that its a shame that the two families couldnt get along for the funneral. I also think that the mothers family should have been aloud to be there. I feel that even though the families have differenes they should have allowed the mothers family there.

Prosecutors Review Charges in Attack at McDonald's - FoxNews.com - 1 views

  • Baltimore County prosecutors are reviewing whether further charges, including hate crimes counts, are warranted in an attack on a transgender woman at a McDonald's that was caught on video, authorities said Monday.
    • Adam Mazurek

So the woman who was attacked is transgender? That is interesting. The two teenagers probably did commit hate crimes then.
  • The video posted online shows a woman being attacked outside the restroom of the restaurant in Rosedale and apparently having a seizure.
    • Adam Mazurek

That is horrible. The poor woman must have been punched many times very hard to have had a seizure.
  • The 14-year-old told police that she and Brown fought with Polis over using the restroom, according to charging documents.

I can't believe that! They fought over who would use the restroom? That is just stupid. Why couldn't they just take turns?

    • Adam Mazurek

I don't understand why no one else was trying to stop the attack. I feel bad for this woman. All she was trying to do was stop the attack and she got punched in the face.
  • "I told him, `No I didn't and I don't care,"' she said. "He said he worked with her and she had a smart mouth -- in other words, she deserved it."
    • Adam Mazurek

Why would anyone say that the woman deserved getting attacked? This person is rude and ignorant.
  • More than 200 people gathered in the parking lot of the McDonald's, for a rally Monday night.

I am glad to hear that people are standing up for the woman who was attacked.
  •
There was recently an attack at a McDonalds in Baltimore County Maryland involving two teenage girls punching a 22 year old woman over using the bathroom. A woman who tried to stop the attack was punched in the face. The older teenager (18) was charged with first and second degree assault and the younger teenager (14) was charged as a juvenile. Prosecutors are reviewing the case, they are trying to find out if hate crimes were committed too.

  • The wife of Miami Dolphins star receiver Brandon Marshall has been charged with stabbing him in the abdomen with a kitchen knife during a domestic violence incident, according to a report from the Broward County, Florida, sheriff's office.
    • Davonta Covington

What was the reason she stabbed him? If it was over an arguement then what was the reason? I think you shouldnt stab anyone with a knife period. If this person is a lover of yours, im pretty sure you can work things out. You dont have to turn to violence.
  • His wife was released Saturday from the county's main jail in Fort Lauderdale after posting a $7,500 bond, according to Coleman-Wright and other authorities.
    • Davonta Covington

She just might come and stab him again. He doesnt have a restraining order on her, so she can get close to him and possibly kill him because she didnt do it the last time she stabbed him. Things like this are crazy. She should not be let not on bond.
  • His wife then told police that she stabbed her husband "out of self-defense," the report said.
    • Davonta Covington

What was the reason for the self defense? Was he abusive to her? Did he hit her first? Where was the knife when she stabbed him? If the knife was not in the same room with them or in her possession, then this can be accounted as attempted murder because she went to get the knife from a different place and stabbed him.

Although this article may not have direct connection with everything that we have done in class so far. I think it is important to address that if a person pushes other person off this bridge it would be called murder and there would be severe consequences (time in jail, fines...), however what is the punishment for taking your on life? Would it be constitutional to declare a law that forbids sucide or something along those lines.

So couldn't they be sucided for having a uneffective net. It may sound stupid, but if in today's world a someone has to take responisbility then who would be responisble for this?

What about endangering his own life? There should be punishment for that! This example proves that the frontal brain isn't fully developed in a teenager.

Okay what makes this case different from the 17 year old boy? We can't objectify what one might be thinking or why might one perform the way they do. Going back to the other point about the charges for the boy: How is trespassing determined on a public bridge?
  • 278 people took their lives from the span between 2000 and 2010. About 677 people were deterred after going to the bridge intending to harm themselves, she said.

SImply put there must be something wrong, if there are so many people willing to end their lives. Where does law fall in here? Or do they just declared them mental unstable and send them off to a pysch ward. 677 people were deterred for trying to harm themselves so what makes them stop from trying to committ sucide again. Afterall, punishments are given to criminals in hopes that they will turn around when they return back into society. I know this is a touchy topic but something just doesn't seem right about the current system.

Detroit Father Guns Down Wife, Son Before Killing Self - FoxNews.com - 0 views

  • Police say a Detroit man fatally shot his common-law wife and adult son before turning the gun on himself, MyFoxDetroit.com reports.
    • Adam Mazurek

This is an awful story. I wonder what caused the man to snap like that and kill his family.
  • Detectives say Eugene Fraser shot his 21-year-old son Monday morning in their Warren home, picked up his wife, Donna Chance, from the home improvement store where she worked, fatally shot her as he drove and then killed himself before slamming into a tree.
    • Adam Mazurek

The part where it says he shot his wife and himself while driving is crazy! Why would he do that in the car driving?
  • The couple had been together for more than 20 years and had two children, the station reports.
    • Adam Mazurek

I feel bad for the other child. It must have been so devastating learning that your family is gone forever.

  • "He did all our cement work in our house in Detroit, and his son's a very hard worker. He worked with his dad from knee on high," family friend Janet Klein told the station.
    • Adam Mazurek

So the son worked with his dad? I wonder if they did not get along or had troubles working together.
  • MyFoxDetroit.com reports that Robert Fraser posted a message on his Facebook page on April 1, saying, "First day to back to work. I hope me and my old man get along better this year."
    • Adam Mazurek

This is an interesting piece of information. What the son posted on his Facebook page makes it seem like he and his father fought at work a lot.
  •
In Detroit, a man shot and killed his adult son in their home. Then the man went to pick up his wife at Lowes where she worked. While they were driving, he shot and killed his wife and then himself. The car crashed into a tree. No one knows why the man did this. People who knew the family said that they lived happily together.

Animal Control Commissioner Found To Have Hundreds Of Cats In Home - East Bakersfield N... - 0 views

  • Animal Control commissioner was found to be keeping more than 384 cats in her home
    • Steph Starr

She was an Animal Control commissioner?? She should be the first person to know better! This is very strange.
  • For the past 18 years, Watchus has been operating D&S Loving Animal Rescue in the city of Ridgecrest, where she has been violating the the city's allowance of having eight animals in a household.
    • Steph Starr

Watchus has been working for the Animal Recue for 18 years! That means that she is not only somewhat older (it's not like she's straight out of high school), but she also has had significant experience dealing with animal hoarders (it's not as if she just started working there). You would think she would respect the ordinance.
  • But there was no indication if she would continue the rescue if she phases it out,
    • Steph Starr

Since there is a city ordinance controlling the number of household pets, what would her punishment if she didn't comply? Wouldn't there be at least a fine?

  • maximum of 30 shelter cats kept in an outdoor facility, 10 as personal pets in her home and five horses and five dogs outside.
    • Steph Starr

I still think the amount of pets that are going to be kept outside is too many. Also, 10 personal pets in her home is still 2 over the city ordinance of 8 household pets. Why does she not have to follow the ordinance? I guess there are exception to the rule? That doesn't seem quite fair.
  • It is very difficult to say 'no' when you are an animal rescue
    • Steph Starr

While I understand how it might be hard for her to turn down animals given what she has seen, I think she would have also seen the harmful effects of keeping too many animals, and been able to make the correct decision.

Police Say Man Admits Raping Teens 150 Times - Local News - Nashville, TN - msnbc.com - 0 views

  • Aarronn Arms has admitted to police he had sex with three girls more than 150 times, police said.
    • Michelle Perritt

Was it the same girls everytime? Why didn't the girls say anything for a while, I mean it did happen 150 times. I guess it is becuase rape victims are very afraid and think it is their fault.
  • Murfreesboro police began their investigation of 22-year-old Arms in December of last year after a mother of a 14-year-old girl reported Arms was having sex with her daughter, often times at their Harrison Drive home.
    • Michelle Perritt

I kind of blame a little bit of this on the mother. She let it happen a few times before saying anything? Did the 14 year old girl sense that there was anything wrong with doing this?
  • "Working in conjunction with DCS (Department of Children's Services), our investigators learned that Aarronn Arms was having sex with at least three underage girls, ages 13 to 15 year old," said Evans.
    • Michelle Perritt

It is 3 girls that they know of, but I can imagine that he woudn't have stopped there. I can't believe a grown person would even consider doing that with someone who is so young. Do people have no morales anymore?
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • In February, Channel 4 News first reported that Joyce Green, the mother of one of the girls, was arrested on charges of not reporting the sexual relationship between Arms and her underage daughter. Police said it happened in her Wenlon Drive mobile home.
    • Michelle Perritt

I think that is deffinitely fair that they charged her too. What was she thinking? Did she think they were just friends, because I'm sorry I would never allow a grown man to be hanging out with my 13-year-old daughter.
  • actually impregnated two of them
    • Michelle Perritt

That is absolutly terrible. I can't belive that he did that! Nothing like leaving your mark behind than getting little girls pregnant from raping them. I wonder what the girls or the parents will decide to do with the babies.
  • Police said they're now wondering if there could be more victims.
    • Michelle Perritt

I deffinitely think that there is more victims. I think that he probably eventually got bored of the girls that he was raping and found more to prowl on.
