Trends include "enhancing teacher effectiveness" through professional development and "scaling up success" by expanding innovative programs that have worked. "ISC provides consulting, facilitation, network building, leadership development, and training services so that our clients can innovate, think strategically and take vision to action. We build the capacity of all with whom we work by modeling the behaviors and transferring the skills and tools of collaboration. Today, one focus of our work is on integrating technology and new social media to achieve greater social impact in all of our collaborative efforts."

The National Education Research and Development Centers are funded through IES's NCER. The mission of the R&D Centers is to contribute to the production and dissemination of rigorous evidence and products that provide practical solutions to important education problems in the United States. The R&D Centers achieve this mission by developing, testing, and disseminating new approaches to improve teaching and learning, and ultimately, student achievement. Each of the Centers conducts a focused program of education research in its topic area. In addition, each Center works cooperatively with NCER, conducts supplemental research within its broad topic area, and provides national leadership in defining research and development directions within its topic area. Currently, there are 18 National R&D Centers.

We identify a topic (Social Media, eLearning, Careers, Leadership, etc), find high-quality blogs around that topic, and then display their posts on a new site dedicated to that given topic. The original site on eLearning has become the highest traffic site on that topic."

Presented on TED.COM, filmed Feb 2010 and posted April 2010. Wujec discusses his experience using the Marshmallow Challenge in team-building exercises. Observing the challenge 100s of times, he sees that kindergarteners do better than recent business school grads (better at prototyping, less jockeying for leadership), CEOs do well, but do even better with an executive admin on their team because facilitation is important. High stakes (he's offered a cash reward) works better once the team has acquired skills; high stakes with no skills is a disaster.

I am into my work because the following excerpt says so much to me..."goal state is initially only partially described" (every time!); the need to "scaffold the work of leaders" while "making a more improvisational style of collaboration possible". These phrases express truth and learning goals for me. "Her research on leadership in creative collaboration online explores how people can collaborate across distance on projects where the goal state is initially only partially described. Amy and her students are creating tools both to support existing creative collaborative practice by scaffolding the work of leaders, and also to try to transform that practice by making a more improvisational style of collaboration possible."

Tracey, a blogger and corporate e-learning manager, puts forth some in-depth thoughts on why digital influence might be more significant than "traditional" influence, and what one might do to garner digital influence. At the bottom of the post, he summarizes with three "determinants."

The site of Janet Salmons; V2L is interested in "supporting creative ways to work, learn and research online." In addition to the information provided (free) on the site, Salmons also offers consulting services. The blog includes events and organizations of interest. The bookshelf is a "curated" group of books on related topics.
