The Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project fielded a nationally representative phone survey about the social and civic lives of SNS users and reported the findings in June 2011 in a report entitled "Social networking sites and our lives."1 During the phone survey, 269 of 877 original respondents who were Facebook users gave us permission to access data on their use of Facebook so that it could be matched with their survey responses. We partnered with Facebook to match individual responses from the survey with profile information and computer logs of how those same people used Facebook services over a one-month period in November 2010 that overlapped when the survey was in the field.

The inspiration for this first event on Serious Games comes from Jane McGonigal's TED talk on Serious Games, and David Helgason's declaration of the 'Year of Gamification'. The event will examine how games and games technologies are being brought into 'serious' areas, as well as how serious tasks are being made more game-like. There are three ways that games can be adopted by other sectors: * by generating positive side effects from gameplay; * by creating technology that can be reused; * and by increasing engagement with a problem or activity. Mary Matthews from Blitz Games Studios and Alex Fleetwood from Hide and Seek, will discuss future opportunities and the event will be chaired by Stian Westlake, Director of Policy & Research Unit, NESTA.

This paper introduces Dervin's Sense-Making Methodology (SMM) as an approach to KM system design using Web2.0. SMM is a philosophically derived approach which allows knowledge management (KM) researchers and practitioners to more fully understand and listen to user's needs so as to inform the design of dialogic KM practices and systems to promote knowledge sharing.

More than 20 of the world's top 50 cities ranked by GDP will be located in Asia by the year 2025, up from 8 in 2007. During that same time period, our research suggests, more than half of Europe's top 50 cities will drop off the list, as will 3 in North America. In this new landscape of urban economic power, Shanghai and Beijing will outrank Los Angeles and London, while Mumbai and Doha will surpass Munich and Denver. The implications-for companies' growth priorities, countries' economic relationships, and the world's sustainability strategy-are profound.
