Please list five stories that you feel are most newsworthy for our first broadcast. Remember to keep the visual elements and your audience in mind. If there is a story from over the weekend that you feel we should cover (check out the ones I bookmarked), you may include that as well. Briefly explain your five choices.
I think the five stories that we should include are: the Great Gatsby story, the Del Val bomb threat story, the vegetarian school lunch story, the hurricane sandy recovery story, and the science project that lead to expulsion and arrest story. I think that all of these are interesting and will be relevant to the interests of many if not all students who see this broadcast on Friday. Gatsby is relevant to report on because there is a lot of hype for that movie, and a lot of people are going to see it after school on Friday. The Del Val story and Hurricane Sandy story are relevant because of location, also, since summer is coming up, a lot of people are probably interested in the current condition of the Jersey Shore. I think that the vegetarian school lunch story would be interesting because most of my friends are vegetarian and often bring lunch because they say that central doesn't have good vegetarian options. I think a lot of people will find the science project story interesting too. Maybe we could do a story about the jewelry store armed robbery in Liberty Village? That just happened yesterday.
The top five stories for our News in Five this week:
Bird Flu- this is extremely important to the health of many people all over the earth, it affects us all. Jason Collins: this is a monumental moment in sports history, the first active male athlete to ever come out as gay. Del Val bomb threats: a local school, and is very serious, something we all have to deal with Girl expelled from school: this story is something teens can relate to being the same age, and is somewhat interesting. Gatsby: At the airing of the news in five, this will be very timely, and many students are very excited for the release of this movie.
Third bomb threat in six months leads Del Val officials to evacuate school again, Pine Eagle Charter School Shooting Drill Terrifies Teachers, Christie: It's time for a new phase of Hurricane Sandy recovery, Strapless dress ban stands after vote in Readington, Spire hoisted at One World Trade Center I think these five stories would be the best for our first broadcast because they all greatly appeal to the teen audience. Three out of the five are actually from New Jersey, so they should definitely be included. The bomb school shooting drill is also very relevant to high schoolers, because it is something we need to include in our school and it is something that people will keep talking about. Lastly, the world trade center construction is also very important for us at Central because we all were very young when the event happened and it's important for us as students to keep updated with the situation.
1. Guantanamo Bay force feeding 2. Jason Collins comes out as first gay athlete that plays a major sport. 3. Del Val bomb threat. 4. Gatsby releasing. 5. NY school all vegan lunch menu.
I think that all of these stories would be interesting and appealing to teenagers. Gatsby is appealing because a lot of students had to read this book in English classes and it seems to be a popular movie. Jason Collins appeals to all people because it shows how people are becoming more comfortable with Gay people coming out. The Del Val bomb threat is interesting and serious because it is life threatening and occurred at a school near by. The NY vegan lunch menu would appeal to teens because it shows how schools are not afraid to make a change and because all students are concerned about lunch.
My five stories would be Great Gatsby, the Strapless Dress ban, the Bird Flu issue, Jason Collins coming out about his sexuality, and the explosive science experiment. I chose these five stories out of the bunch because I found them to be relate able and interesting simultaneously.. I also considered each news type of news when making my decisions. I wanted to incorporate each category to keep the news well rounded, informative, and intriguing for viewers.
The first story that comes to mind for our first broadcast, is the bomb threat at Del Valle. Most teenagers know about how many times they have had to evacuate students out of that school on numerous occasions due to bomb threats, so it would most definitely attract teenagers here at Central because it's a school nearby and also informative in a way. Another story I think is news worthy is the Obama speaking in Ohio. This would also be informative, but also something that most teenagers would find interesting due to wanting to know what he has to say, and also has historical value to it as well. Another story I like as well is the Pine Eagle Charter school shooting drill story. This would be most relevant to students here at Central because drills are a new add on for all most all school districts, and also to have the many students terrified, shows teenagers concern. Another one that would be found most interesting is Chris Christie's story on the next phase of Hurricane Sandy Restoration. This would attract many teenagers because it gives students an update on what the shore will be like, since summer is coming up. Also the Bird Flu story is a good one as well. It is informative because it can be a serious threat on every human being on earth. The last story would be Mark Jackson getting fined 25,000 doallors. Even though the first round of the NBA playoffs have come to a complete end finally, this would be a good story for his career, as well as upcoming expectations for next years Golden State Warriors team. Most of these are pretty eventful, so photos are a common basic thing for the story's that inform the world, and are of a national story view. Audio and video too come with some of them as well.
I think that we should include these 5 stories: -Bird Flu: because it is something that people should be aware about, especially since the only way to contract it is from poultry. Teens should be informed of this information, and so should everyone else for health reasons. -Armed Robbery at Roman Jewelers in Liberty Village: This just currently happened yesterday. It was local so it is obviously easy for viewers to relate to. We all find every little thing that happens in this town interesting because not much happens. -Strapless Dress Issue: Considering the dress code issues that have been addressed here at Central, I think that this story would be both intriguing and relate-able to students. -Bomb Threats at Del Val: What if it happened here at Central? It's local, important, and scary. -Girl Expelled for Science Project: I think that this could be a good story because she is the same age as us, and was expelled for something as silly as doing something she found on YouTube. It could be related to the Cinnamon Challenge as well. Things like that are very interesting to teenagers
The five stories we should include are The Great Gatsby Release, the All Vegetarian Cafeteria, the Bird Flu strain, the Road Rage story, and the spire of the world trade center. I think these 5 stories provide a comprehensive look at the news from international to national to local stories, as well as stories from different categories. These stories would appeal to teens because they all relate back to their lives.
