4th Grade Clearview - Civil War - 0 views

Madison Hamblen Revised: 10.15.12 Overview: This website was created in order to help people study facts about the American Civil War in flash card format. The intended audience is for fourth grade students in Virginia that are preparing for the state standardized tests. There are no available resources that can link the user to other informational pages. My impressions of this website are that it is an educational link providing an activity to help students reinforce information they should have previously been taught. Content: The content within this website is similar to that in others regarding the facts about the American Civil War. Other websites have the same type of information and key points. The content is relevant to information fourth graders are expected to be tested on during their state standardized tests. The content is also easy to understand because it is on a very basic reading level at which is compatible with the intended audience. Design: The design of the website is boring due to the fact that it is just an activity and not a website meant for entertainment. It is very cut and dry with the way the site distributes information. Since the students can read both sides of the card at the same time, the website is simply a reading experience in flashcard form. The navigation process is easy because the only thing to do on this website is switch from one card to another. This site is worth visiting because no matter how much the student knows, the cards will always give them the answer. If they are always given the answer, then they are guaranteed to learn something.

Overview: The website, Fact Monster, was very useful and had lots of information. It had information for many different areas for school use. Intended for teachers and 4th- 12th grade for almost any subject. Each page had links for separate websites of similar content. Content: The content that was included in the website were for history, news, math, and science. All web pages loaded with ease and there were no pages that weren't running, and all the outside sources worked. All content was recent and the authors were all mentioned as well as contact information. Design: The design was interesting and colorful, perfect for getting students attention. Easy to guide through, and very user friendly for anyone to use.

History of Mount Rushmore - 0 views

Hailey Dudley 10/15/12 Overview: This site was great for learning facts on Mount Rushmore by watching informational videos, and furthering learning about the faces carved on the rock. The intended audience for this site ranges from children in 3rd grade to 8th grade. There were also many available resources that would help continuing education on the subject. I was very impressed with this site because it offered great information, it was appealing, and I trusted the information presented. Content: The content on this site was very useful. The information quality and ways to further information was outstanding for this site. The information was valid on the subject and the links to other sites were worthwhile and contained very useful facts. However, the information currency was not the best for this particular website. There was no available revision date so there was no way of knowing if the information was updated regularly or of the latest revision date is applicable to the material. The site also did not have available authors of the material. Design: The design aspect of this website was exceptional. The speed of loading the home page was great and I was able to easily navigate throughout the site. This site was very appealing to the eye and the graphics on each page was useful and contributed to the learning that occurred here. There was great content on this site and there were also sites available to continue leaning. However, the date that the site was last revised was not easily seen and so I had no idea if the information was present.

Elizabethan England Life - 0 views

Elizabethan England Life Allison Cetak 10/11/12 Overview The subject matter of this site is life during Elizabethan England. The purpose of this site is to educate students of history or literature about all aspects of life during Elizabethan England. The audience of this site is students of history or literature who want to know more about any aspect of Elizabethan England. This site contains information pertaining to any aspect of Elizabethan England someone could want to know. However, while the content scores were good in my review, there was no information about the author, who wrote the information, or if it was ever updated. The only reason that I knew that the information was good was because I have done quite a lot of research about this topic. Also, the design of the website was not great because it contained many pop ups, ads, and links that had nothing to do with the content. Content Within this site, the actual information was great, extremely thorough and detailed. However, due to the fact that there was no credits page or authorial page, I do not think that this information can be used credibly. Although it was good information, as I mentioned previously, I know it is good information because I have done extensive research on this topic using other websites and books. Overall, the lack of information about the author discredits all the information on this site for me, despite the fact the information just so happened to be correct. Design The homepage of this site is not attractive at all. It contains advertisements and pop ups that are completely unrelated to the subject matter at hand. That said, the organization of the actual content was good and easy to follow, which made for easy consumption. However, as previously mentioned, despite the good organization and easy reading, the content is not backed by anything making it null and void as far as I'm concerned.

Once the appropriate state is clicked on the student is given a whole bunch of information that is both relevant and accurate. Content/Design: This site is super user friendly and easy to follow. It has maps and pictures and is really kid friendly too. The information is presented in a way that is easy to read, follow, and interpret. When check against other sites the information was correct and it was up to date.

Civil War: The War Between the States - 0 views

Madison Hamblen Revised: 10.15.12 Overview: This website was designed to be an educational tool for studying the Civil War. It was specifically engineered for fourth grade students in Virginia to prepare them for the state standardized tests. There is a worksheet for students to complete after exploring this website in great detail. Mrs. Walter made the worksheet so the students could be evaluated on their understanding of the Civil War. I think this website was very well constructed. It covers many influential people who played a key role during the Civil War in America. Content: This is an informational website which was created in order to educate students on the history of America during the Civil War. The content on this website is accurate and relevant to my interests of study. Even though the page has not been revised since 2005, the facts remain the same. The reason for the lapse in revision is irrelevant to the accuracy of the information is because the website is about history. The past is what happened in previous years, and therefore it can't be changed. No matter when a history site is produced, the content will remain consistent and true. This site is very beneficial for elementary school social studies students. The facts are basic enough for their comprehension level, yet in depth enough to form a solid foundation of the history of America during the Civil War. Design: The homepage of this website is appealing at first glance. It is nice how the homepage immediately splits off into two different links. One link takes the student to a Union page, while the other one links to a page on the Confederacy. The design of this website is very basic and extremely easy to understand. Navigating through the different links is easy when the links are easy to read and the pictures are relevant to the content.

Civil War Overview - 0 views

This webiste is great!!! It is the most realible out of all the other websites I chose to do. It provides a brief summary over stuff like how the war got started, background of the war, outbreak of the civil war and the Emancipation Proclamation. Plus it has a huge number of videos to view and help the user understand the subject better. Content and Design: The content of this website is just tip-top and the audience is for anyone that is wanting to know more about the great Civil War. The videos are simple enough that a elementry kid could get the basic idea of it but also is filled with enough facts that a high school kid could get what they and probably be satisfied. The design is very simple and easy to navigate. They have the videes to watch at the top of the page and the reading is just a bit down the page. Plus there are a few links that a user could explore at the bottom of the page so they can explore more into the website.

Queen Elizabeth - 0 views

Queen Elizabeth Allison Cetak 10/11/12 Overview This website's subject matter is Queen Elizabeth as well as the culture surrounding the entirety of her reign over England. The audience is anyone who is a student of history or literature and is interested in learning more about Queen Elizabeth and Elizabethan culture. The purpose of this site is to give readers and historians peer reviewed and historically accurate information about this time period by supplying them with facts backed up with examples, real life application, and historical points where instances have occurred. This website contains highly specific and accurate information that is regularly updated as new information comes to light. Also, the organization, clarity of content, and supported information makes this site a great resource for someone seeking to further his or her knowledge of Queen Elizabeth and Elizabethan England. Content This website is the best website I have seen relating information about Queen Elizabeth. The content is accurate, thorough, and contains new information that I did not know. Also, the content loads quickly, educates viewers without adding extra information, and is grammatically and syntactically correct. The content is regularly updated and dates when the updates take place are included. Lastly, the author of the site is identified and is available to be contacted with questions, concerns, or comments. Design This website is extremely well designed. The site contains a variety of information relating to Queen Elizabeth. The best part of the site is that it guides viewers through Elizabeth's entire rule over England, from beginning to end while putting information into timely context. By designing the site this way, it allows for easy processing for viewers. Again, the revision dates are readily available which means that the content is current and accurate. Due to the timeline style organization, it is extremely easy to navigate through and navigation is

Formulas, Games, Tutors and More! - 0 views

Melanie Hays 10-10-12 Overview: The purpose of this website is to help students learn formulas and equations needed to help them with their assignments. It has many other purposes as well, such as tutoring, games, and other useful tools. The audience for this website is students in math grades K-12. It contains reference websites to visit if more help was needed. It is useful for students struggling remembering formulas and in need of assistance remembering them. Overall, I was very pleased with the website and found it extremely useful for students needing help with their math homework, or just with concepts in math in general. I was also pleased with the fact that it provided games and tools for students of all ages. Content: The website's content was without a doubt accurate. It contained information that is proven to be correct, and achieves its intended purpose. The site's material was current and very relevant for what it was designed for. The site obtains help for students from basic math, all the way through calculus. Design: The website is very well organized and easy to understand. It is user-friendly and designed in an appropriate way. It is appealing to younger students, as well as young adults.

SOL Major Civil War Battles - 0 views

  •
Madison Hamblen Revised: 10.15.12 Overview: This web activity site was made to use as a tool to quiz one's knowledge on the history of America during the Civil War. The information is based upon the major battles during the Civil War. Due to the facts being so basic, the intended audience is geared towards upper elementary students preparing for the state standardized tests. There are no links leading a user to another page, rather this exercise is simply an online quiz to determine the knowledge the students already have. My overall impression is that this website is beneficial if the students already have a prior understanding of the major battles. This website should not be used as a primary source of learning. It should be used as a tool to test students' level of comprehension. Content: The content provided on this website is correct and relevant to the history of America during the Civil War. Even though the content is relevant, the quantity of information is lacking. The person who created this site is most likely a teacher simply because it is a Quia web activity, however that information is not easily revealed. The site only shows the web designer's name. Therefore there is no way of contacting the website designer for questions regarding their work. Design: The design of this website is plain and boring. The intentions of the designer are clearly to make it an informational website. There is nothing that would catch a viewer's attention at first glance. It is organized and easy to navigate but would get frustrating because you have to answer each question one at a time. It would be better if there were a key so the students could view the questions in a chart form.

Science Kids: Sharks - 0 views

Content: Along with the other sites this site had great information on sharks and it was very helpful. A student could easily interepret it and apply it to their webquest. It was easy to un The understand and follow. The whole site was on the subject of sharks and their lifestyles. Design: This design was nothing spectacular. The site was a little confusing to navigate through and could easily confuse a student. It was lacking elements that could catch a child's eye and keep them entertained. I do not think I would use this in front of a classroom because they would not be interested in it.

Kid Zone: Sharks - 0 views

Content: This website offers different links to different information about sharks. For example, there is information about shark teeth, what they eat, shark babies, etc. This website can be really useful for the students because it offers insight that they might not have learned from any other website. The information was really current and you could tell that it gets revised regularly. All of the information was complete and thorough. The website was intended for children so it was really basic but all very helpful for the student to complete the webquest and find all the information. I would highly recommend this webite for teachers and both students wanting to learn more about sharks. Design: This site was easy to navigate through because everything was laid out so nicely and legible. This site was not very fun to look at because it was really simple and is not very appealing for kids. It had a couple of pictures but for my age group that my webquest was intended for the kids would not be very entertained for very long. They would get the information and leave the site right away. A person can find more information about a topic if they explore it more and give it a chance to click on more links and what not. This site offered a lot of insight on sharks but it was lacking in the design department.

Content: The information found in this website was very useful for my webquest. All the information was very legible and kid friendly! There were a lot of interesting facts that I didn't even know. It was very clear and the content achieves the intended purpose. Web Design: The design was very legible and easy to navigate through. It was very kid friendly because there were many colors and was very clear to read. The links that came with the site were helpful and connected to other helpful sites. There were lots of pictures that helped students decipher which sharks were which and it pointed out body parts.
