I really like the fact these videos were made by students. Maybe if I am ambitious enough, I could have my students make videos to post on here!

An interactive way to assess students through ipads, iphones, androids and more!

This looks like a great tool to use in my classroom. It would be a quick way to assess students on a topic before moving on. This tool is clearly geared towards teachers. It can help them to quickly grade quizzes that are easy but tedious to correct such as true/false and multiple choice. I would like to play around with this a bit more and see if there are discussion opportunities with it. My students use Poll Everywhere to have discussions or answer polls, but the results are posted for everyone to see. I like that the tools grades the quizzes and posts the results to a spreadsheet format. That would be such an efficient way to grade. This is much more user friendly than other automatically graded quizzes like Flubaroo. Thanks for sharing!

A few teachers in my building use secretive and have shared it in professional development sessions. It looks very easy to use and seems like something students would be very easily engaged with. Great resource for teachers to use with students. It would be just as easy for students to design questions and present as a quiz or dipstick check for understanding after a presentation or some other in class assignment. My school uses Promethean boards so we have this same capability built into that technology with the Active Votes or Active Expressions. I can also see this being something you could do with the poll feature on Edmodo. I think there are more and more resources out there in this style. I agree with Kayla that this is MUCH easier to use than Flubaroo, even though that is a very useful tool as well.

QR code generator. Has some options other than plain B/W. Pretty cool!

I like QR Stuff so much I have even paid for its use. I like that they keep track of your history in a paid subscription. I've used QR Stuff to create vocabulary scavenger hunts, to make a poster of sites to share with other teachers and post a video of the scavenger hunt to share. I've even made my own audio book recordings through QR Stuff. I see this resource as one to be used by students and teachers. The site has so many options for teachers to create codes for their classrooms. Students can link documents to digital portfolios, QR Creators are popular, but I haven't found another one that offers as many choices in codes and personalization features as QR Stuff. Ben you should look into Aurasma, an augmented reality app that adds a 3D component. And Socrative can be used for formative assessments.

QR codes are great for students, teachers and community members. I would guess many students and adults are familiar with them and if they don't know how to use them, know someone who is. Renee and Ben, I know some teachers use QR codes as a link to their Aurasma pages. I like this site because it offers more than the first-generation QR code generators. I can see many uses - I'd love to try one of the t-shirt or visual AR codes. I'm a fan of Tagxedo, which reminds of of the visual AR codes shown on the website.

Digital Citizenship lessons for students and teachers

Thanks, Mekca! We spend very little time teaching Digital Citzenship. I think it needs to be embedded in every teacher's curriculum. There are so many "teachable" moments that present themselves that could be linked to proper social media usage. This is going to be an excellent resource for me to share with my fellow educators.

This is an excellent source for me to use in my Teen Insights classroom. We started with a unit on bullying... then cyberbullying... I think we're missing the point- students just need to learn to be good digital citizens! I will use this source to build my curriculum. I appreciate that the curriculum is geared towards students but that it gives teachers and parents good background as well. Parents are a huge part of cyberbullying problems. Much of the conflict we have in school has to do with something students do online at home and then carry those hard feelings with them to school. I do not have resources similar to these. The video that my curriculum used to show warned students to avoid chat rooms and to only choose names that gave no indication of their age, gender, or location. It's good for students to stay safe, but the world has become much more familiar and personal with technology. Our curriculum needs to adapt to keep up.

I think this is a very under-utilized resource in schools today, for both teachers and students. There is so much available on this website. The possibilities that these resources provide teachers are endless. One of my personal favorites that is on this site is Atomic Learning. This provides training resource videos in almost any technology tool you can think of. I have used this multiple times to help me out of a jam when using anything from Movie Maker, to to Excel, to Skype to iPads. The videos are chunked into short, searchable segments that are very useful when you are trying to learn anything about computers and what to do with them. This is a great resource to use in the classroom, both for personal (as a professional) use or for student use. Students are able to search videos independently and use them for assistance, contributing to self-reliance and independence in implementing classroom technology. I am not aware of any similar resources with a database this large, in one location. Although most websites or programs have instructions, sometimes even instructional videos, available to help new users understand the technology, Atomic Learning has them all in one place with easy to use videos that do a great job of demonstrating how to use the particular programs. apps, or instructional technology with your students.

I agree with Tamra and Maria that this is an under-utilized resources. I have introduced and stressed the importance of these databases to students, teachers and other staff for several years. It is too easy to just 'Google It.' I used Atomic Learning when teaching middle school technology explore. One of our 8th grade skills was an understanding of Word, and I let students pick their own topics to study further through Atomic Learning. I just used Gale for peer-reviewed journals. I am also using SIRS to find articles for our Digital Citizenship (Protect It) curriculum. I am not aware of any other collections for education as robust as Iowa AEA Online.

I love AEA Online. Being a former AEA employee, I've become very familiar with it over the years. Like the other ladies who commented before me, it is very underused. I'm not sure whether it's because people are not well enough familiarized with what they have to offer, or because it presents another opportunity for information overload. Regardless, it is a wonderful resource for students and teachers. I used Atomic Learning to help a teacher develop her own skills. I've also recommended it as a resource to our Special Education teachers as a resource to learn when students need reinforcement of new concepts.

I have to give a shout-out to William Chamberlain for putting this platform out for others to use. I has been a great tool to allow my classes to connect with classes and students across the country and the world safely and well. Super tool.

I agree with Scott on this resource. Kidblog was a great way to introduce blogging to middle school students. It allows students the freedom to maintain their own page but allows teachers to supervise their postings and comments. We, my co-teachers and I, gave students the choice of using this site as one choice of a book project. I would say Kidblog's use is mainly for students, again under the direction of a teacher. I know of no other site that gives teachers the control and a listing for class blogs.

I agree that these can be used in the classroom successfully. I have used something similar and have found success. Now, I am not sure what you teach but I think this would be best in a language classroom. That being said, it works in all settings. I like that this is primarily a student centered resource. Since students have to create their own flash card set they internalize the information. Finally, have you tried quizlet.com? It is a very similar resource that allows students to play different games with their sets. It too has an ipad app like cramberry which I like.

I agree with Kenton - it is a great resource for students to use to learn information. What I like about this one is that you can search ready-made sets. But I like quizlet.com a lot better. It has interactive games to learn the words and can even write quizzes for the students to test their knowledge. I have used that for independent study of vocabulary words for novels. I couldn't write 30 different quizzes to assess their familiarity with the new words they chose for themselves, but on quizlet they can take a quiz and show me their score. It has apps from Apple and Android so students can use it from different devices. Also, it has a print option for students who don't have access to a smart phone or internet outside of school. I like that it gives them an active way to study and instant feedback on what they know and what they need to study still. Finally, it has class options so I could enter a set and share it easily with the students.

Edmodo is a free social learning network for teachers, students and schools. With a design similar to Facebook, Edmodo offers teachers and students a safe and easy way to connect and collaborate. Edmodo can be used to share content, access and submit homework, take quizzes, and collaborate with other students. Also offers a parent component that allows parents access to their student's account.

I like the wiki source in the aspect that it explains everything about Edmodo, which would be great to send parents/staff/administrator to if they were curious about what Edmodo is and how you are going to use it in your classroom. I think this provides a "safer and more private" learning environment for students that could be beneficial. I think this is pretty similar to what we are using for our online class with blackboard, but Edmodo provides a more user-friendly area for younger students. Thanks for sharing!

This wiki provides educational tutorials and web 2.0 tools for me as an educator to use in my classroom and with my students.

Ben - I also agree that this is a great site for educators to use with their students. I have looked through this site for different ideas of tools. I have found it to be most helpful in my search for things. I can see it being useful for both students and educators. I haven't found any other site that has different web 2.0 tools broken down into different categories.

This will be extremely useful when looking for new and engaging ways to enhance student learning. This tool could be used for teachers mainly, but if students are looking for a new way to present something, they could use it as a resource. This site allows you to read an online document and highlight the information you are reading. It also allows you to take notes.

I really like this website! I use my SmartBoard often in class to highlight text to demonstrate main idea or important details. I would like to see what this looks like for students. It would be a great teaching tool for students to find main idea or practice researching for a paper. It would be very beneficial for teachers to see how students are highlighting main ideas in texts while also taking notes. Have you used this before? And how successful was it for students?

Sarah - I am new to using both Diigo and Scrible, so I did not realize all of the similarities between the two. I really like how you can highlight things with Scrible. Are you able to do the same with Diigo? Those were some of the same reasons I thought this would be a useful tool as well.

I know many schools have used this but it is all archived online for use. Students can learn about current events and then share what they learn with others.

Kenton - We used to be a channel.one school, but stopped viewing it last year. I love the current news - but hated all of the commercials. Can you view online without all of the commercials? This site reminds me of newela.com. It is a wonderful site for reading current non-fiction articles and is also related to common core standards. I like that you can select the reading level for students on the article. You can create classes and assign readings and it has quizzes, too. I haven't used any of those features. I just used the articles for read-alouds and they were high interest. I can see Channel One working well for history, but also for English. We need to teach students to be critical viewers as well as critical readers. Let's face it - a lot of information they will receive (for elections, ads of products to buy, etc.) will be visual. They need to know how to interpret information in this medium, too.

Kenton - I agree that this seems like it would be a good tool for students and educators. I think that students could watch the short videos and do reports on what kinds of things are happening in around the world. I think educators could use it to stay more informed as well. I had not heard of this resource before I saw your posting. Do they post new videos weekly? Also, how do they come up with their topics? Do people submit ideas of different topics they would like to hear more about?

Schoology offers a great place to let teachers communicate with students and staff through a "Facebook-style" LMS server. Schoology allows you to communicate with students, post tests, and grades to share with students and parents.

A learning platform for schools to use for administration of curriculum, content, assignments, and a platform for collaboration and communication. 

I realize this is one of the initial ones for an example, but my district uses it already and I have a lot of examples to share for my blog post!

Padlet offers students and staff a great way to collaborate with one another on a digital "whiteboard" of sorts.

I'm excited to try to incorporate Padlet into my classroom. I think it's a great way to get kids to brainstorm together, or even use as an "exit ticket" for the day. I think both teachers and students can use this as a collaborative tool, to take a survey, to brainstorm, etc. This is a great tool for students and teachers to share ideas with each other. Pinterest would be a similar way for students and teachers to share their ideas with each other, but not exactly the same way. Thanks for sharing, Tamra!

This site has things to help students in many different areas.  From making conversions in measurements, online almanacs, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and more.  This would be a reference students could use in different content areas.
