Hands On: iKeyboard Brings Touch Typing to the iPad [Macworld / iWorld 2012] | Cult of Mac - 6 views

  •
"The iKeyboard was another Kickstarter success story at Mocworld / iWorld 2012, garnering over 6 times what the required threshold was for funding. Its mission is to "addresses the one drawback of a tablet computer" which is the inability to touch type on the iPad's virtual keyboard. Again, I'm not a fast typist - I definitely need to work on that to improve my overall productivity when writing. The iKeyboard gives me the opportunity to work on that on what is often my primary writing tool."

Learning and Sharing with Ms. Lirenman: Using an iPad in a Grade One Classroom - 7 views

  •
"Since November I've had the privledge of teaching with an iPad in my grade one class. Along the way I have discovered a lot of great ways to use it to help my students have their individual learning needs met.  Having just one iPad did bring about its own set of challenges but we were very lucky to have access to some additional iPads in the final term of school.  Next year we will have  iPads again thanks in part to my participation in my school's successful innovative learning grant application and another special project I'm involved with at the school district level.  Needless to say my head has been spinning all summer with ways I can integrate this technology into my classroom with out loosing sight of the important non technology based teaching and learning my students need too."

Grading with Voice on an iPad - ProfHacker - The Chronicle of Higher Education - 6 views

  •
"One of the frustrating things I found in teaching online last semester was the lack of direct contact with students. The class felt impersonal, despite my efforts to give it life. I found that especially frustrating when I graded assignments. The feedback seemed cold and distant, even as I as I tried to point out strong areas of writing and multimedia projects. I overcame this in part by using my iPad to add audio comments to grading. This was a revelation to me. Using an app called iAnnotate, I could write comments on PDFs but also add voice comments, allowing me to make grading more personal but also add details that I otherwise wouldn't have included."

15 iPad Apps to Enhance Students Creativity ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning - 17 views

  •
"I am revisiting this topic of enhancing students creativity using iPad apps for the second time this year. Almost 10 months ago I featured here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning a selection of some great apps that can be used in class to boost students creative thinking; and today and after having reviewed hundred of new educational apps since that post, I decided to compile an updated version of that list and include some newly featured apps in the category of creativity. Of course by creativity I mean giving students the chance to take their learning to the next step, one in which they are active producers and participators in knowledge building. Creativity is all about creation and iPad is an ideal device to support this creative thinking. Check out the apps I have handpicked for you today and share with us if you have other suggestions :"

A review by Mark van t 'Hooft of the NECC09 SIGML (mobile Learning) field trip in Washington DC. "Your task is to come up with a compelling argument that demonstrates the importance of the World War II Memorial today. Use your mobile phones to access supplementary digital content, using the QR codes in this booklet. In addition, you may use your mobile phone to collect evidence in and around the memorial. We will leave it up to you as to how you want to do that.

Seek 'n Spell - A Real-Time GPS-Based Word Building Competition | Apple iPhone School - 0 views

  •
Seek 'n Spell is a, "a real-time GPS-based word building competition." The object of the game is to create words by collecting letters. The catch is the letters are located outdoors. You collect letters by finding the letters based on GPS location. Your iPhone's screen displays where each letter is located and then you must run (or walk) to that location in order to obtain the letter. You want to collect letters that will create the longest word…think real life Scrabble. To get a true feel of the application you will want to check out the demo video below.

How To Sync Apps From Multiple Macs | Mac|Life - 20 views

  • Any content that your husband purchased through the iTunes Store on his Mac or through the App Store on the iPad—apps, music, TV shows, and movies--can be stored on up to five authorized computers. Those five computers can then sync to any number of iPads or iPhones.
  • Ideally, I would like to merge his apps with my apps. Is there any way?
  • First, authorize your Mac with your husband’s iTunes account name and password.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Then you’ll need to copy his iPad apps onto your computer
  • Next, iTunes will ask you if you want to transfer your husband’s apps into your own iTunes library.
  • You can then sync your iPad once again, and iTunes will ask you if you want to overwrite your iPad with your apps. This time, you can allow that to happen

PadGadget How -To Guide: How To Preserve Battery Life on Your iPad | PadGadget - 1 views

  •
"Apple's iPad has an impressively long battery life. You can keep your iPad going for about 12 hours before it will need a recharge. Depending on how long you've had your device, you have probably already noticed some activities that drain battery more than others. If you are planning on spending a lot of time outdoors this summer, you may want to think about how to keep your iPad's battery charged for as long as possible. Below are 10 simple tricks to help extend your battery's life, aside from the obvious of not streaming HD movies while sitting in your car and using the 4G network."

"This app won't necessarily give you all the bells and whistles that some other apps purport to provide. Tutorial: How to use iMovie on the iPad | jeadigitalmedia.org - 5 views

  •
"Editing video on the go with the iPad and iMovie is pretty simple. Below I've grabbed three different free tutorials from Youtube that show you how to use the app. While the tutorials can give you a good of how to use the app, they are free so there are some limitations. If you are looking for really good, thorough tutorials on everything from iMovie to WordPress, I'd recommend subscribing to Lynda.com. These are a good starting point for you though if you've never seen iMovie on the iPad."

Stuck in Guided Access with iOS 6? Here's How to Escape - 6 views

  •
"Guided Access, or what we to call "Kid Mode", is a fantastic addition to iOS that lets you lock an iPhone or iPad into a single app. Well, great when it works as it's intended, but it appears there's a pretty frustrating bug that makes the feature work a little too well once it's enabled in iOS 6 with some apps: triple-clicking the Home button doesn't summon anything and you're stuck in an app! This leaves you unable to leave Guided Access mode, but here's a workaround to get out of it until the bug is resolved:"

iPod grants bring high-tech lessons to students of all ages | AAPSNews - 0 views

  • At Skyline High School, at least a dozen uses are planned for the 100 iPod Touches that were awarded via the technology grant. The uses will undoubtedly lead to hundreds of future projects, said Pete Pasque, instructional technologist at the school. They are “productivity tools to help manage what students are learning,” he said. “It’s so exciting to have students as creators. That’s what we’re trying to do at Skyline.” Pasque said he hopes to see the iPod Touches used for everything from recording band practices in order to review music to accelerometers in science class. There’s even talk of putting an iPod in a football helmet, running a play and charting and graphing the impact in Microsoft Excel. “Teachers come to me and say ‘hey Pete, I want to do this’ … and I say ‘OK let me figure it out,’” Pasque said. “It’s going to make it more real world for the kids.” Uzelac said she had so many requests for iPod Touch grants from Skyline, that she asked for a combined proposal. Skyline had a dozen teachers ask for 500 as a school; Skyline was given 100 in the grant process.

Livestream producers can start streaming live to the addressable iPhone and iPod Touch audience over 3G or Wi-Fi connections, with less than five minutes of setup. iPads at Burley: Back to the Beginning - 6 views

  •
"Even though it's October it still feels very much like the beginning of the year. One of the first thoughts that many teachers have about their students is "they look so little!" It's true. Those tall confident students that left us have gone on to be "little" to next year's teacher and we have our own new crop of "little" people to educate. This becomes even more pronounced in a technology classroom. Everything takes longer, typing, starting, opening, finding, searching. Whatever it is they need time to figure it out. Patience is key. So what can we do?"
