Classroom Technology Integration | District Administration Magazine - 1 views

  •
The article talks about the importance in keeping up with technology. They believe that people, such as teachers and programs would be "silly" to not stay update with the new technological systems, because that is the way our future is learning and growing. The talk about teachers teaching teachers, stating The Teacher Leadership Project, a nationally recognized, award-winning professional development model that is used in 18 states by 4,200 teachers, is a prime example of the good work being done in technology-infused teaching. "The whole '21st century' mindset is more than technology itself. It's the confidence teachers have to effectively use it in class."

Today students are expected to learn analytical skills for preparation for work and life in the 21st century. Teachers are expected to teach way that develops those skills. President Obama and congressional leaders included 650 million dollars. 25% had to be used to buy the most updated technology for students. International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) states "It would be "silly" not to keep up with the changes of the world today" National Staff Development Council says we have failed as a nation to meet highly effective professional learning. Today 18 states (4,200 teachers) were recognized for technology integration in the classrooms. Enhancing Missouri's Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies (eMINTS) is a program that aims to create classrooms where all students are motivated to succeed, build enthusiasm and creativity. eMINTS trained 3,500 teachers and 300 administrators since its formation in 1999. In the 21st century student will have a difficult time succeeding without technology. The article states "Technology integration in the end, is not really about technology, but rather the life skills it instills in students and teachers."

'Madden NFL' makes a play for the classroom - 1 views

  •
Math and Science students are now using the Madden NFL game for the classroom. Being a division 1 AA football player and now coach of the game, this learning tool is something I would definitely love to use in the classroom and for myself! Electronic Arts will work with NFL Players Association and Discovery Education on a program called EA Sports Madden NFL: Football By The Numbers. The program is for 5th and 9th graders to teach them Math and Science skills. The program will combine football concepts with math and science principles including physics and probability. Different opportunities will be accessible for the kids as well. Students can take field trips to EA Sports Tiburon studio in Orlando to watch the creation of the Madden NFL. NFL players are hopping on board too. NFL players will help promote the program and develop awareness of the learning opportunities. Being a fan of this game, this is very good news. Not only is it incredible that they are using it for academic reasons but I believe accessing knowledge for gaming creation will benefit the game in their future. Every Madden game gets more realistic each year, allowing children to gain greater knowledge of how this system works will increase the future endeavors for the company.

ISTE | OneNote helps educators go paperless - 0 views

  • Doing so allowed for new ways of collaboration.
  • This tool provides some unique ways for teachers to interact with students that you can’t do easily with other programs
  • There are three specific sections in the tool: a collaboration space where students and teachers can work freely within the environment, a content library that allows teachers to share documents or create original content for students, and the student’s private space where teachers and individual students can communicate directly with each other.

As time goes on we will see less and less paper in the classroom. OneNote is a digital three-ring binder. This program is used as a way of interaction between teachers and students. OneNote has three different sections which are collaboration space, content library and the student's private space. Taking advantage of the new technological advances is good because the more you know of a program, the more efficient you will be able to be.

This article introduces the idea of classrooms going completely paperless. The idea behind going paperless is amazing. The impact that it would have on the environment and on student's learning abilities is something that needs to happen. By using Microsoft's OneNote, teachers can connect with students in a different way. In many ways our INTC class is paperless already.

Connections Wanted Form #GRA14 - 0 views

I love the one book program that our district runs, where everyone in town reads the same book and we have an author visit as a wrap up. I have met some new and interesting people that way. Having that collective understanding on just one thing is vital to extending relationships amongst people who would normally never connect. The more you know about people around you, the more you care. The global read-aloud can achieve that same interconnectedness.

JOTS v26n1 - Current Trends in Technology Education in Finland - 1 views

  •
It is an old tradition in Finland to teach a school subject dealing with the use of machines, materials, processes, techniques, and tools. Since 1866, educational sloyd (handicraft) has been a compulsory school subject for both boys and girls. In the technology teacher education program at the Department of Teacher Education in Rauma, University of Turku, students are able to take the curriculum for either one or two teaching subjects. In addition to technology education, a second teaching subject, such as an elementary education or mathematics, entitles them to teach in primary school as an elementary or mathematics teacher. In the technology teacher education program, students study a variety of technologies, mechanical and electrical engineering, product design, project studies, research methodology and statistics, educational sciences and ethics, developmental psychology, didactics of technology education, administration, evaluation, and sociology of education.

ISTE | PDK/Gallup poll results support the need for digital age professional learning - 0 views

  • And how do we assure that teacher quality matches the needs of today’s digital age learners? It all comes down to new models of professional learning. Just as classroom approaches to learning and teaching have changed to active learning models, so must professional development for educators. Gone are the days of sit and get. That approach must be replaced with hands-on, relevant, immediately implementable learning. And that learning must include best practices in tech integration if it is to meet the needs of 21st century learners.
  • As much as we ask students to collaborate in tech-integrated classrooms for increased engagement and deeper thinking, so must we apply that approach to educators in every role — superintendents, administrators, teachers, tech coaches and IT directors, to name a few.
  • We show educators the possibilities for enhancing learning and meeting pedagogical goals through thoughtful tech integration. We also explain the role of the ISTE Standards and Essential Conditions and engage the entire team in concepts like digital citizenship and distributed leadership.

  •
This article is helpful to our class because it establishes how important technology integration into our classroom is, and that in order to do so we teachers must be trained professionally. This improves our quality as educators.

ISTE | Where passion, play and technology intersect - 4 views

  • Yet with arts programs all but disappearing from many schools, the opportunities to sample a wide range of pursuits are dwindling.

Reading and writing, along with math and science, take president in our school systems today. With the arts disappearing in our school systems, soon students are not going to have anything to read or write about.
  • Students need time to celebrate motion and their bodies and their kinesthetic sense. It will lead them to better study sessions and better testing. And students learn a lot of important life skills during play, out on the playground and in those social settings.”
  • “I think one of the things we’re starting to understand is that technology is an amplifier of our gifts and talents, not a replacement for them,” Carroll said. “Look at all the dimensions it can bring. It can be a wonderful amplification of what you love.

      Perfectly stated.
  • And that may be the important mission of all for teachers in the digital age: to help students learn to use technology meaningfully in pursuit of their passions.
  • Educators have got to be some of the most passionate people on the planet. Take one look at the way they pour themselves into helping others, and it’s hard to imagine a profession more infused with passion.
  • “If you’re getting up every morning for a reason that inspires you, it shifts your energy immediately every day,” he said in a recent interview. “There are plenty of brain studies that show that when you’re lighting up the frontal lobe with inspiration, when you’re getting lit up, you know it. How do we tap into that more?
