Travel the World From Your Classroom: Free iPad Apps for Virtual Field Trips - 2 views

  •
Not every school has the resources necessary to take their students on an airplane . . . or spaceship tour. Having the iPad app can help these students and show them how things are inside and out. Fun app for the students. They have virtual sites for many historic places.
  •
I think bringing ipads into the classroom and giving students a chance to see a virtual version of a famous museum or historical place is an amazing teaching too! Most students may never get to the actual place but that doesn't mean they should not get the chance to experience it, whether it be virtual world or not. It makes the information to students more interactive and they can connect history to the places they see online.

This article explains why it is important to teach students about technology and how we should be using it in the classrooms rather than just on special occasions in a computer lab. Technology is evolving and taking the place of other tools such as textbooks and calculators. It says that students are already using this technology so instead of turning off all electronics we should teach them how to use it efficiently.

Historia: Game-Based Learning for Middle School History | Edutopia - 2 views

  •
Rick Brennan found interactive games help teach his class history more than a regular lesson. Students seem more involved and want to learn. Games seem to be the key to helping younger students stay active in their education. This blog could help other teachers come up with ideas for their classrooms.
  •
I think that it is a good idea to use interactive games to keep younger students active in the class. Without the interactive games it will be easier for students to fall behind and become less interested in the material.

Very interesting. Making learn fun and interactive

The 5 Steps of Effective Technology Integration - Getting Smart by Dave Guymon - edchat... - 0 views

  •
There are five effective ways to integrate technology. Identify relative advantage to see if there is a need that a given technology too can address and search for the most appropriate tool or process to meet that need. Determine objectives and assessments by asking what will students be able to do?, how long will it take for them to do it? and how are they going to demonstrate that the objective was met?. Design instructional strategies by taking into consideration students readiness levels along with their physical and effective needs this will help create appropriate student groupings and a flowing activity sequence of instruction. Prepare the instructional environment by being aware of the classroom layout, available materials, and preparing a backup plan for when technology issues arise. Analyze results and make revisions by making conclusions about what worked and what didn't work.

Education World: Is Technology Crippling Student Creativity? One UK School Thinks So - 0 views

  •
I found that this article may be helpful to this class because it explains how a school in London is not allowing any sort of technology in the classrooms of their students until they are twelve years old. The article uses hyperlinks to back up the claims of the school that implementing technology in the classroom has not shown any positive correlation towards a students ability to learn. This article is showing how a school is actually doing everything the opposite of what our class, INTC 2610, is learning how to do and it is interesting to see a view that does not believe technology integration is an integral part of learning.

Digital Citizenship: Developing a Culture of Trust and Transparency - 0 views

  •
Andrew Marcinek Director of Technology and EducatorU.org Co-founder, Boston, MA An acceptable use policy is a document that is present in every school district around the country. The purpose of this policy is to provide safe parameters for exploring digital resources and using school-issued devices properly. The article talks about the importance of developing internet use guidelines that students can understand by avoiding overly complicated words that may confuse or intimidate students. These guidelines should focus on how students should use the technology rather than focusing on what they should not be doing. The article also focuses on the importance of involving parents and helping them understand how their children should be using technology. Furthermore, the article mentions the importance of being aware of the new apps and their implications in the lives of students. This allows school districts to stay one step ahead and decide whether or not they want students to have access to these apps.

This prezi provides a break down of how technology integration can be a success or  failure. It emphasizes the importance of making the teacher comfortable and knowledgeable so they can teach their students. It also provides ways in which teachers can avoid failure and be successful like access to tech support, training, and personal usage. This presentation reported that Including teachers in the decision process makes them feel vital which is another way of making a successful change and they will be accepting to student assistance. Familiarizing yourself with a computer eases the stress of unfamiliar territory because you face trial and error on your own. Collaborating with other educators will alleviate stress and gain knowledge so the teacher can pass this knowledge on to students. In a nut shell integrating technology starts with the teacher.

Is it OK for teachers to not know the answer? - 3 views

  •
When the teacher isn't the all-knowing expert, students feel more empowered to take ownership of their learning. Rather than filling students with information, show them how to find answers. Pose challenging questions and allow students to gather information, analyze, and conclude themselves. Having flaws shows that it's ok to make mistakes and learn from them. Teachers and learners are on a"learning journey" together.
  •
"Teachers and learners are on a"learning journey" together." Perfectly stated.
  •
This is an insightful article. Teachers do not want to spend 80% of their day teaching common core lessons. Since their administrators force them to do so, they spend less time reading about new and exciting facts they could be sharing about broader subjects. To sum it up I believe teachers are being pulled from learning more to teach robotic lessons.

I like the 19 points in teaching students. Every single point is something teachers should be doing today, a lot of them are more important than most people think such as, keep them spelling, or keep science in every day. Also have them learn in their native language.
  •
Integrating technology within the lesson is a great idea and the 19 points is a start. Now, teacher just need a little more time searching for online material that could use in the class.

Taking the Struggle Out of Group Work - 2 views

  •
This article is an innovative solution to allowing students to work together and not worry about doing all the work and splitting the credit with other students who did much less. The strategy uses google drive as a way to monitor what gets done what student. In addition, groups are assigned a total number of points, divided evenly between all the students in a group.

Technology Integration - 1 views

  •
This article really stood out to me because I found it so interesting and amazing how much our society is advancing. Basically, O'Brien has this great idea to take Google Exploration to a whole new level. She has interns that are getting some experience with her job, but she says that they are choosing their jobs with fear. They are taking the safe route because people just do not know exactly what is out there. No one can know the experiences others have with their jobs on a daily basis. This is why O'Brien wants to take Google Exploration to a new level. If you watch the video in the article, it shows exactly what Google Exploration is. It is a new technology that allows students to "travel" anywhere and see what they are actually learning. Better than a picture, better than a computer screen, the students hold up cardboard lenses with an iPhone on the other side, which is a virtual exploration. O'Brien was fascinated by this creation, and wants to capture individuals lives on the screen. She wants students to experience the jobs they are interested in, and see what each one entails. I think this is a brilliant idea for education and it shows the true advancement that we have with technology. This will help individuals all around discover what they want to be in life.

Reading and writing, along with math and science, take president in our school systems today. With the arts disappearing in our school systems, soon students are not going to have anything to read or write about.
  • Students need time to celebrate motion and their bodies and their kinesthetic sense. It will lead them to better study sessions and better testing. And students learn a lot of important life skills during play, out on the playground and in those social settings.”
  • “I think one of the things we’re starting to understand is that technology is an amplifier of our gifts and talents, not a replacement for them,” Carroll said. “Look at all the dimensions it can bring. It can be a wonderful amplification of what you love.

      Perfectly stated.
  • And that may be the important mission of all for teachers in the digital age: to help students learn to use technology meaningfully in pursuit of their passions.
  • Educators have got to be some of the most passionate people on the planet. Take one look at the way they pour themselves into helping others, and it’s hard to imagine a profession more infused with passion.
  • “If you’re getting up every morning for a reason that inspires you, it shifts your energy immediately every day,” he said in a recent interview. “There are plenty of brain studies that show that when you’re lighting up the frontal lobe with inspiration, when you’re getting lit up, you know it. How do we tap into that more?
