7 Benefits You'll Notice When You Start Learning to Code - 7 views

  • Learning to code has made it into the mainstream, meaning that anyone can learn - you just need concentration, patience, and diligence. I did it, and so can you.
  • It’s been shown that learning to code can help you do better in other subjects that you’re studying or learning. Within programming, you learn how to break down a problem into individual steps and to use a language that the computer understands to logically create a working program.
  • A key area of your life important in growth is a successful career. Learning to code helps achieve that through many avenues and opportunities.

  • Financial success is an important goal for many, and learning to code can have a significant impact there. No matter what your career, profession, or background; programming skills are useful.
  • 7 Benefits You'll Notice When You Start Learning to Code
  •
This article would be beneficial to share with teachers so that they know the benefits of teaching students to code. Coding in the classroom has long range benefits that could lead to students having many options in their future careers. Additionally sharing this article with students would show them that while coding is fun; they are also working on developing skills that can help them in the present and future.
  •
I really like this resource. I will definitely be looking at this as I get ready to write my final paper. This is different from all of the other articles that I have seen because it is not directly related to coding with students. I could see how this could be beneficial for a young professionals group all the way up to a senior citizen center.
  •
It's interesting how all of these things connect with coding. As a computer science major I can see how all of these can be impacted by coding, yet I never thought of them. After reading this article I definitely can look back and see this occurring through out the past two years!

QR Code Generator: QR Stuff Free Online QR Code Creator And Encoder For T-Shirts, Busin... - 1 views

  •
This can be used to put a website into the QR code generator and made into one. When the QR code is scanned the website that was generated into it will display all of the information on the website. It can be used my teachers and students to use to manipulate for information. Multiple QR codes can be put around the classroom and students can do a scavenger hunt to find, which one is pertaining the information they need.
  •
I have never thought about using QR codes in this fashion and it seems like a great idea. One such way that I can see this being a huge helper is during presentations. If a student wants to link to more information but doesn't want to type out the huge URL that is associated with the site they can simply make a QR code that links to the URL and insert it as a picture. Then the other students can snap the QR and go to the website and read up on more that the presenter had to say. This would be used primarily by the students because it would be the teacher integrating it for the most part. I haven't heard of any other types of technology such as this.
  •
What a cool idea. Thanks for posting this Megan. The scavenger hunt idea is a great one to facilitate meaningful instruction.

Give Your Kids a Most Excellent Coding Adventure | EdSurge Guides - 2 views

I am saving this article to my Diigo library as soon as I am done typing this comment. I can use this article as a teacher and as a parent. There are suggestions in this article for things that parents can do to get their children involved in coding during the summer. There are also resources on the page for starting coding clubs and other articles on coding that I plan to read. The article had an important quote that I want use as I encourage teachers at my school to give coding a try in their classrooms: "Coding is the new literacy. It will not replace foreign languages, but it will be the global vernacular for understanding how technologies work". I then clicked on a link below the article that took me to another article called Teaching Coding: Where Do You Start? Within the article I found another great article on the site about importance of computer science education. This resource will be very helpful to me as I continue on embark on my coding journey. Thank you for sharing it!

3 Steps to Becoming a Coding Teacher | Edutopia - 1 views

  •
    1. I could see myself using something like this with a future class. Right now, its all about access, access, access! (and I don't always have it) If I add this, I want to be able to do it more than a day or two every other week... 2. The resource is mostly for teacher use...it considers issues a teacher might want to consider before implementing coding in their curriculum, along with support issues they might need help with later. 3. There are other resources out there for teachers -- I have looked at code.org (for example) as they provide a lot of lesson plans/etc. that can be used by teachers in their classrooms.
  •
While I don't think I would used in my future classrooms per say. I am however interested in learning to code for myself. Also, having a 1st grader and a preschooler, I think this would be helpful to start teaching them to code. This resource is mainly for teacher use, but the curriculums listed on this site would be used by students. Another resource I have heard about through a coder friend is DeltaVCode 101 course. I know they are offering a class starting soon in CR very soon.
  •
This will be a helpful tool for me to use in my ELP classrooms. I have found that coding is an area of both interest and strength for many of my students. I have found that some like to stick with the apps and resources that they are comfortable with and others like to try new things. This will help me offer those students what they need.

Scratch Across Every Subject: A Recap | ScratchEd - 3 views

  • Coding is increasingly described as an "essential literacy" that should be included with reading, writing, and arithmetic. But Scratch can also be a great tool for deepening and extending reading and writing. Students can record phoneme sounds, design interactive book reports, create autobiographical music videos and so much more!
  •
I will share this information with teachers at my building since it deals with integrating scratch (coding) across every subject. Specifically in my language arts and literature classes, this article provides a link to an interview with a English teacher who uses Scratch in his classroom. I want to do coding with my students and would like to try having my students do storytelling projects using Scratch.
  •
The image with this selection immediately caught my attention and I would hope that it would do the same with my teachers. I would use this resources with teachers to help them see how scratch coding can relate to all content areas. I will also be using this article to check out the additional resources posted with each content group.

"twiducate is the perfect solution for elementary and secondary students. Rather than having your students sign up and enter an email address, you sign up and create a class code. Using this code, your students log in to your class network. Here, they can answer questions, collaborate on problems, and even embed pictures and videos. As a teacher you have full control over the network. You can even add other teachers!" Great adaptable social media for kids

Students Who Make Apps @coolcatteacher - 0 views

  • Students can program apps. They can pitch their ideas. They can handle defending their dreams. Students can code. Students can create. Those who think students can’t do these things either haven’t tried or have a limited view of themselves as educators.
  • App programming with Crescerance has been awesome since I first learned about it from fifth grader Kennedy and from Susan Bearden at ISTE 2014.
  • Want to know more about our Shark Tank event this past spring? Here’s our wiki page on the event.
  •
Evidence of students programming their own apps. While I can't teach them how, I can encourage them. Hoping to use this in AP to develop a program for building a city.
