OPSI guidance on info and knowledge transfer for Government changes - 0 views

  •
National Archives instructions for transferring data, information and knowledge resulting from 'Machinery of Government' changes. Updated this year, the document unfortunately makes no mention of how Linked Data might help in the complex business of moving ownership of information. There is reference to XML schema guidance from 2008 from the National Archives http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/electronicrecords/advice/default.htm Whilst it implies that tacit knowledge transfer is important, there is no guidance or tools for this and relies on codification rather than knowledge sharing.

The need for a knowledge hub - 0 views

  • Yet media companies remain curiously fragmented in their own information space. So as I often ask in these columns: What would I do? First of all, I would gather together all the people in the company who collect and analyze information for a one-day "knowledge-fest." Some will be in editorial, some in advertising, some in circulation, some in "research" some in digital, and ... well anyone else who wants to turn up. They'll then share what they collect, and its relative benefit to everyone else. Secondly, I would create a "knowledge hub" - an intelligence center - charged with integrating and redistributing the content from all the different sources, across the entire organization.

Salford has a range of open data feeds. A lot of these are around council decisions and council meetings. The requirement to publish this information has been overshadowed a little bit by the announcement of the requirement to publish all expenditure over £500. So it's great to see Salford's example of a nice clean page with lots of different feeds covering governance arrangements, job openings, councillor information and an always useful "what's on" listings.

The Open Graph Protocol - 0 views

  •
The Open Graph protocol enables any web page to become a rich object in a social graph. For instance, this is used on Facebook to enable any web page to have the same functionality as a Facebook Page. While many different technologies and schemas exist and could be combined together, there isn't a single technology which provides enough information to richly represent any web page within the social graph. The Open Graph protocol builds on these existing technologies and gives developers one thing to implement. Developer simplicity is a key goal of the Open Graph protocol which has informed many of the technical design decisions.

Publishing itemised local authority expenditure - advice for comment | data.gov.uk - 0 views

  •
The Prime Minister and CLG Ministers wish to see local authorities publish granular local spending data. The Public Sector Transparency Board has been set up to drive an open data agenda. The Prime Minister has made a specific commitment that new items of local government spending over £500 be published on a council-by-council basis from January 2011. http://www.number10.gov.uk/news/statements-and-articles/2010/05/letter-t... Many local authorities also wish to publish such data. Camden Council asked the Panel for advice on publishing information about payments to suppliers greater than £500 in value.
