Arguments for open local data « Local Data - 1 views

  •
Having trouble persuading your managers of the benefits of open data? Or just need persuading yourself? Well here we try convincing all of you. What follows is a Q&A compiled initially by Dan Slee of Walsall Council and Stuart Harrison of Lichfield District Council. The first part is a bit of background information, the second part comprises some responses to common arguments. This work is ongoing, and this page will occasionally be updated accordingly. You can watch and contribute on the Open Local Data wiki

  •
at the 2nd meeting of the Knowledge Hub advisory group, we asked people to map how they would use the Knowledge Hub (imagining that it's everything they wanted it to be) to satisfy their knowledge and information needs around a popular, complex LAA target. (In one case, NI 111 - first time entrants to the youth justice system and NI 39 hospital admissions due to alcohol related harm).

The need for a knowledge hub - 0 views

  • Yet media companies remain curiously fragmented in their own information space. So as I often ask in these columns: What would I do? First of all, I would gather together all the people in the company who collect and analyze information for a one-day "knowledge-fest." Some will be in editorial, some in advertising, some in circulation, some in "research" some in digital, and ... well anyone else who wants to turn up. They'll then share what they collect, and its relative benefit to everyone else. Secondly, I would create a "knowledge hub" - an intelligence center - charged with integrating and redistributing the content from all the different sources, across the entire organization.

Welcome to the Local e-Government Standards Body - 2 views

  •
The Local e-Government Standards Body (LeGSB) was re-launched at the NWeGG Annual Conference on 7 November 2006. Established to support the needs of Local Authorities and the Transformational Government agenda, LeGSB is embarking on a journey to facilitate the take up of standards, which can then be mapped onto a Local Government standards architecture reference model and developed with the local government community.
  •
Steve, I used the LeGsb email address to contact Paul Davidson, but got no response. Do you know if LeGSB is performing a function or has it beed overtaken by LGDP?
  •
Gary - good question, but don't know. I'll ask that question of Tim Allen when I get to my IDeA email this morning.
