Keeping It Fresh in 6th Grade - 1 views

This teacher posts activities that incorporate ICT into her lessons and she comments on the responses from her students. There's a cool movie on a recent post regarding a student's perception on homework, quite funny! She also provides resources that can be used in her lessons, and these can be found on the her TeachersPayTeachers page.

Teen to government: Change your typeface, save millions - CNN.com - 0 views

Another story about a US-based student's science fair project that uses ICTs. Not as visually appealing as the Hello Kitty video, however, this example does show the use of commercial software as a tool in a science investigation. It also shows how the results of this science investigation was later published in a Journal set up specifically for publish work produced by school students.

After 20 years, a teacher reinvents her classroom using technology - The Hechinger Report - 2 views

  • She developed a new style of teaching that gives students a mix of technology and small-group instruction. Online tools, most of them free, helped her customize lessons for students. She periodically checks progress through the year to adjust.
  • That’s not to say the transition was easy or the results perfect. Hawkins considers her classroom a work in progress. She continues to remodel it to fit the needs of the school day and her students
  • Another challenge: Managing the multiple online platforms, such as quizzes, learning games and online grade reporting for parents. Data on the websites she uses aren’t connected so Hawkins has to juggle them to monitor how her students are progressing

  •
Article describing how on US-based 5th grade teacher is using technology to create a "blended" approach to learning that apparently allows more catering to the different capabilities of her students. Some linked to the approach used in EDC3100 as explained in the first (and last) Toowoomba lecture.

This resource is excellent as a method of formative assessment or as a teaching strategy in the classroom to track students progress. Students are able to answer various questions, and through this identify and reflect on how well their learning is going within a topic. I will probably blog about this in my assignment as it is an excellent resource that I've used before.
