For those of you doing mathematics

I came across a fantastic app for students called 'Popplet' which is a tool for students to make graphic organizers to visually represent their ideas and thoughts on a particular topic. This app can be used for sharing and collaborating and is an effective pedagogical tool to use in all learning areas.

I used Popplet the first time last week during class and I must say, it is a fantastic app. The students enjoyed brainstorming ideas through the use of this digital tool and were probably the most quiet they'd been all week. I will definitely be exploring this app in greater depth and using it in the classroom whenever the opportunity arises. Thankyou for sharing.

This week I found a digital storytelling tool for literacy learning that enables students to create 3D pop up books.

This might be a one stop shop for web 2.0 tools. Someone else has done all the work, providing brief annotations and links to the sights. Enjoy!

This technological tool seems to have various applications in the field of education. I have brainstormed a few, any other ways to integrate this ICT tool into learning and teaching?

An example of a different approach for the assignment 1 artefact that came through my feeds today.  It's a Wordpress blog that has been used to create a "presentation through hypertext of an alternative vision for a school". Not only is this a good example of trying something different in a webs ite.  It is about re-thinking education influenced, in part, by some of the factors we're talking about in this course. FYI, the clickable image on the front page is implemented using what is called an "imagemap".  Google that term and you'll find some resources/tools that can help

Exploring 150 examples of ICT innovation my favourite is a Web 2.0 tool called ZooBurst. It is a digital storytelling device that enables students to create 3D pop up books.

I love the fact that this site is providing resources that are already sorted for Verbal/Linguistic Learners.

A video doing the rounds in which a US high school student complains bitterly about the teaching approach used. i.e. hand out packets, read. He wants the teacher to teach, to engage the students. A lesson there about what's acceptable teaching strategies. But more broadly, there's a lesson here about the spread of smart phones with video. What happens in your classroom can be recorded and made public.  The classroom may not be as private as you think. A typical knee-jerk response may be to ban the use of device. What are the chances of that actually working? How well has it worked in schools today? What about using these tools as part of student learning?

A little questionable - but positioned as a science/learning tool. Especially around neuro-science.  

Online tool for creating appropriately formatted citations

American Heritage Dictionary site. This is kind of like a word cloud but makes a portrait with words. It originally came from the OZ/NZ educators diigo group. Another great tool!
