In this digital world, opportunities for education are available like never before. Though teachers using online tools are empowering students take part in their education, they may also expose them to inappropriate material, sexual predators, and bullying and harassment by peers. I am very interested in the concept of allowing Social Networking in the schools as a learning tool. This topic has interested me since becoming aware of all the tools I have utilised with the ICT and Pedagogy course. I found an article of the pros and cons of allowing this tool into the classroom. There seems to be a debate whether or not to utilise this type of learning tool into the curriculum. The types of questions raised where: What about predators? How do you stop explicit images filtering through? Will the students be distracted? I particularly liked the comments at the end of the article. It was quite interesting to learn how many people were fore the concept of implementing Social Networking into the curriculum. I'm still sitting on the fence with this topic. More research for me.

This flip chart introduces students to fractions. I would be using this with my 4/5 class. I have just used this through the ACTIVInspire program and it looks great. It is colourful with images and hidden answers for students to find.

I am excited to share some of our math thinking we've been doing this week. I have to say, I love technology, especially when it works and having WiFi in my room. I asked the student students to bring in their iPod's yesterday so they could video tape each other finding expressions in their images they've created.

I agree with this article and Elena Aguilar shares a very similar pedagogy, her classroom is not just individual students, it's a community in which everyone belong

Awesome question! I have a number of motto's but I think one stands tall amongst them all. We are all equal and put downs of course are not to be tolerated but I believe more focus on student fear of failure resulting in a lack of effort to succeed. There will be times in our career where we will witness students losing motivation due to ridicule from peers or even self-ridicule. More than once I have heard in a maths classroom a student admitting, "Oh I'm not good at maths", even when I can see that they are quite capable. Effectively the student is giving themself permission to fail. My moto is "THANKS FOR CORRECTING ME!" Too often students fear answering a questions in case they get it wrong, and some students will abuse others for their mistakes. It is a cultural attitude that is in the workplace as well as the classroom. If someone voices that they have discovered a mistake you have made, then that gives you the opportunity to correct yourself. If you cannot see the error, then it is an opportunity for them to teach you something new. It doesn't matter which way you look at it, mistakes should be celebrated as a collaborative learning opportunity, and as teachers we should encourage this. Children can create their own customised Avatar - simple activity with loads of potential.

I think that this is a great idea for children and teenagers. By allowing students to create an Avatar, it gives them the opportunity to create an image that represents them or they can go completely crazy and create something far from the truth. Giving them an avatar in an educational environment then makes the learning fun and enjoyable as they feel they are playing just one big game. I have used this concept in a Contact Centre with Adults and have had success with it, purely for the reason it allows creativity and staff did not need to leave their desks to go to training.

As briefly discussed in module one it suggests that as a pre-service teacher we should consider including digital technologies to represent mental/conceptual models to assist in the learning process. I am interested to see how this may be achieved? Have you any ideas how this can be done in an inclusive classroom?

Currently I am teaching in an environment with a diverse group of students learning needs; Years 7-12. I have access to computers, IPad, Digital Projector, Internet the list goes on. E.g. Warm Ups are as a whole group on the whiteboard via the data projector and speakers. We have access to E-Books and Audio E-Books and programs like Reading Eggs for all ages.

Hi Tamara I came across a really simple concept mapping site today, which is very quick and easy to use. Bubbl.us While the same activity can be done in the student's book, so it is not transformative, it is an easy and engaging activity. Many of the students I work with as a teacher aid (mainly ASD and II) love using the computer rather than drawing and writing by hand. They can then download and save their image to their computer or google drive for later use.
