The Student Blogging Challenge is just one project that aims to help school age learners connect to folk outside of the classroom. An example of ICTs being used to exchange information/communicate A new challenge runs every March and September.

There are so many great ways that you can make ICT integral to learning in your Early Phase maths program.    To help you get started, we've compiled a collection of resources around the theme 'ICTs You Can Count On'.   These resources relate to the concepts covered in the five strands of the Years 1 - 10 Mathematics Syllabus.   We encourage you to explore them and to learn more about the applications, websites and learning objects that can be used to engage learners in your Early Phase classroom.

In my experience there is always a number of learners who are not engaged with the task for a range of different reasons. These include: the work not being challenging, the work being too challenging, poor teaching and the task being uninteresting.

Internet in the classroom is the way of the future. 21st century learners are capable of communicating with ICTs

I sometimes hear that the classroom of today looks and functions much like the classroom of the 19th century-desks lined up in neat rows, facing the central authority of the teacher and a chalkboard (or, for a contemporary twist, a whiteboard or screen.) Is this model, born of the industrial age, the best way to meet the educational challenges of the future?  What do we see as the college classroom of the future: a studio? a reconfigurable space with flexible seating and no center stage? virtual collaborative spaces, with learners connected via their own devices?

The current devices of choice are smartphones, tablets and laptops. People primarily use them for texting, social media and massive multi-player online games.

Great resource for Foundation/Year one to help consolidate number recognition.  It enables students to match objects with words and numbers.  This is a great visual tool for those visual learners within the class.  Each student has a turn at matching the number of children with the number on the bus and further along in the  lesson, the pictures change to trees and apples.  Very engaging for students.

Flipchart for a Promethean IWB looking at facts and inferences. These flipcharts are interactive with an embedded video and learner response questions . Good sequence will help scaffold learning. For age ranges from 4 - 8.
