I am really excited about this research done by Dr. Mitra. It goes to show that barriers to ICT access can be significantly minimized and all students can gain access. In this talk, Sugata Mitra will take us through the origins of schooling as we know it, to the dematerialisation of institutions as we know them. Thirteen years of experiments in children's education takes us through a series of startling results - children can self-organise their own learning, they can achieve educational objectives on their own, they can read by themselves.

I was recently introduced to this research and found it fascinating. I am going to try to use some of this research in my own classroom by giving children access to the technology and giving them some freedom to explore and answer questions for themselves. I am excited to see how it works out!

Professor Mitra came to Argentina as a speaker for the ESSARP Conference in 2013. Fortunately colleagues of mine had the fortune to assist and learn aboit this amazing person from which we can learn a lot! Trust for our students is the key! Not being afraid helps as well! Allowing kids to learn through tools they feel comfortable about is a great success!

This site has interactive games for free or for a small subscription. It is good support for parents in understanding how phonics is taught and the students can engage in activities independently at home.

This site is from a group of architects - Fielding Nair International - that have worked redesigning schools and learning spaces in different parts of the world. Many times we dream about a new type of education ... but the school physical space is not designed for those changes. The blurb says: "Toondoo lets you create comic strips and cartoons easily with just a few clicks, drags and drops". I started using it in newsletters for parents as a way of grabbing their attention for key piece of information. It struck me how useful this would be as a way for children to summarise concepts, learning etc in one frame. Quite sure this is a site everyone is very familiar with already, but just in case...

It is always good to know that you can find out information about your country that you did not know exist. The information gathered here I would use to see if the Government is on track with what they say they would do with regards to ICT in the country.

A project in South Africa to train teachers in a rural area to "teach with ICTs". Tablets were used. 21st Century skills training was modeled during the 10 training sessions which was spread out over 30 weeks. A tremedoes amount of learning took place. I participated in the sustainability modelling which included Total Cost of Ownership calculations. This showed that tablet replacement could be up to 50% of the yearly operations costs.

I have used Canvas many times. It is similar to Edmodo, but I think it is better when working or having students that are adults. Canvas allows students to contact directly and develop a connection outside the course.
