This is a great website which explores the amazing range of digital tools that are available to tell a story. Have a look! I am sure you will find something new you can use in the classroom to encourage children to tell stories.

Using Photostory in a primary classroom - 5 views

  •
In this video, Patrick Halpin, Donabate-Portrane Educate Together National School, shows how he uses Photostory with 4th class. Working in groups, the pupils create a photostory presentation on how to create origami flowers. They will use this presentation to teach origami to junior classes.
  •
I like working on Photostory and it's really a great software that can help in encouraging children in their story writings.
  •
Hi Florian, we have been using Photostory with Year 3 and Year 4's (7 - 9 years olds) for a couple of years. It's such a fantastic publishing tool and so easy to use with lovely animations and music. Thanks for sharing.

This looks great! With a special educational set of images too. I use too much words in my slides and creating a video will certainly get me away from words and focus on the flow of the story I want to tell.
  •
This looks amazing, I'll try to use it. It would be nice to use it to share a story with the students since some struggle to understand only by listening. Thank you for sharing this with us.
  •
An amazing tool to create more interesting videos and slides enhencing students into the topic. It looks pretty easy to use, it is kind of similar to powtoon but it looks easier.
  •
this is great! i cant wait to try it with my class.
  •
I'm going to try this. Usually, for online learning I will make my own presentation and then do a screen recording on the Mac which records your voice at the same time. A more fun, interactive presentation may help the students pay closer attention.
  •
Thanks for sharing. I've always thought that kind of video is very visually appealing for students. I'll definitely explore MySimpleShow! It could be used to explain difficult topics in a simple way.

Video production is a creative task and the most important segment of a video is its intro. An intro video is a small segment of a video which is used to tell the viewer what the ongoing video is all about. For a newbie, it is comparatively easy to learn and shoot a live picturesque video.

I've heard of this software many times but haven't tried it yet. It must be very creative! It's time I started using it with my students!
  •
I've already installed it on my tablet but couldn't find time to explore. That's what I'm going to do next. Thank you!
  •
I have my students use this as a choice for book reports. It is a great choice for some of those creative thinkers, and it is amazing how much time/work they put into it.
  •
I have read good reviews about bitstrips earlier too, seems a good tool for primary students, a nice way to introduce them to writing stories. Will try it!!!!!
  •
super heros and super powers as well as evil characters are a good way to teach values to chilren and develop storytelling, focuss ideas, etc. I find visual thinking very good for early learning and being able to make comics is great. Thanks for sharing.

10 Solutions for Students Who Fidget in the Classroom - 8 views

  •
Our story last week about the connection between ADHD, movement and thinking struck a nerve with readers. We reported on a small study in which students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder performed better on memory tasks when they were allowed to spin and move around in a swiveling chair.
  •
I have seen a few of these ideas work with preschoolers. Love the swivel chair idea. Great was to allow movement while attention to table work is needed.

My y1s are really enjoying Scratchjr, great for younger children, and as it's a free app it's good for the school budget too.
  •
My 5 year old daughter loves Scratch Jr. She had a tutorial from us initially, but was able to use the software independently very quickly, to her own delight.
  •
I as a teacher love scratch. And of course for the students too, scratch is fun way of learning.
  •
I am began teaching coding this semester in my computer lab. I haven't played with scratch too much but look forward to using with my kids next week.
  •
I have used the computer version of Scratch with students in grades 3-6 (in Australia). My colleagues were amazed when students produced maze games where if the player bumped into the maze walls they were returned to the start - little did they know how easy it was once we got the hang of the coding. Great stuff.
  •
Actually there is also a new curriculum for Scratch with worksheets: http://scratched.gse.harvard.edu/guide/download.html It has also been translated into several languages. This is a very helpful tool if you want to start introducing programming to a class. I have been using it now twice, and I am happy with the outcome. In particular the worksheets are so helpful and give you more time to support the individual child.
  •
I have use code.org as an introduction before using scratch. It allows the children participate it in games involving angry birds, plants vs zombies, flappy birds and the disney frozen characters.

Even the youngest pupils can create beautiful stories using this free tool. They simply select the images from a large bank of illustrations then just add their own words.

Thank you for this site, I used it many years ago and had forgotten what a great resource for ESL students!
  •
Hi nice web site I'll check it out. Thanks.
  •
As a teacher of 5-6 year old ESL learners in a bilingual school, I find this website really useful for activities, songs, games etc for teaching English in a fun way. It is very interractive and child friendsly. Children can explore activities alone or it can be used as part of a teaching session. They can also leave their own comments about activities they liked. I think someone has already mentioned it below but I love it so much I had to post again so everyone can see. Highly recommended for any teachers of young learners, whether these kids are second language learners or not.
