Using Photostory in a primary classroom - 5 views

  •
In this video, Patrick Halpin, Donabate-Portrane Educate Together National School, shows how he uses Photostory with 4th class. Working in groups, the pupils create a photostory presentation on how to create origami flowers. They will use this presentation to teach origami to junior classes.
  •
I like working on Photostory and it's really a great software that can help in encouraging children in their story writings.
  •
Hi Florian, we have been using Photostory with Year 3 and Year 4's (7 - 9 years olds) for a couple of years. It's such a fantastic publishing tool and so easy to use with lovely animations and music. Thanks for sharing.

10 Solutions for Students Who Fidget in the Classroom - 8 views

  •
Our story last week about the connection between ADHD, movement and thinking struck a nerve with readers. We reported on a small study in which students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder performed better on memory tasks when they were allowed to spin and move around in a swiveling chair.
  •
I have seen a few of these ideas work with preschoolers. Love the swivel chair idea. Great was to allow movement while attention to table work is needed.

I have been reading the manual of this designing game. It's so intersting!
  •
Thanks joselociruelo. I tried a similar approach two years ago with high school adolescents when by chance I discovered Sheldon's book: 'The Multiplayer Classroom: Designing Coursework as a Game' (2011) http://goo.gl/7NBlhj . Results then were not as expected, maybe because of my students profile, maybe because of my personal adaptation. Having discovered Classcraft, I'll see if the graphic environment and mechanics fills the gap I couldn't make attractive enough to cover with my own improvised adaptations through PowerPoint slides.

Thank you for sharing. Games can be a really motivating source to engage students in class. It is a really interesting topic!

Coding in the Classroom: A Problem Solving Framework - 9 views

  •
Learning to code means stepping out of your comfort zone, dealing with frustration, and leaning into discomfort.
  •
https://scratch.mit.edu/ I saw this website where children can animate few cartoons. It can work as a prelude to learn coding. Here coding is very simple like jump 4 times or move three steps.
  •
It could be useful even in schools that teaches thinking skills classes.

This looks great! With a special educational set of images too. I use too much words in my slides and creating a video will certainly get me away from words and focus on the flow of the story I want to tell.
  •
This looks amazing, I'll try to use it. It would be nice to use it to share a story with the students since some struggle to understand only by listening. Thank you for sharing this with us.
  •
An amazing tool to create more interesting videos and slides enhencing students into the topic. It looks pretty easy to use, it is kind of similar to powtoon but it looks easier.
  •
this is great! i cant wait to try it with my class.
  •
I'm going to try this. Usually, for online learning I will make my own presentation and then do a screen recording on the Mac which records your voice at the same time. A more fun, interactive presentation may help the students pay closer attention.
  •
Thanks for sharing. I've always thought that kind of video is very visually appealing for students. I'll definitely explore MySimpleShow! It could be used to explain difficult topics in a simple way.
