    This article makes me see in a way how biometrics is actually a better idea than keycard systems or just old fashioned keys. Only the person who booked the room will be able to open it because you never know who is in possession of they card key or the key. With biometrics, you can either tell the guest to tap 2 or 3 fingers or a whold hand. I think that is respecting their fingerprinting privacy, It could be dangerous in away if anyone wants to fake finger prints but that is why a system should be set up in which the guest chooses what finger they want to use. I think its a better idea. Working in a hotel I see alot of key cards being lost and its a hassle just to get them to show their ID or they might be in the room but not registered. If they loose the key and the room number is on the envelope it is easy access for whomever found the keycard. ith Keys, they are always loosing keys. The safe keys in our hotel is always getting lost. I think its better to use biometrics for unique access only

To avoid hackers from accessing the data so easily, Onity will be issuing the hotels new caps that will cover the data case on the doors. Onity is also protecting the equipment with obscure torx screws that will enable the hackers from accessing the panel. The second fix is more costly and challenging for Onity. The company has created a new circuit board and firmware that allegedly fix the security issue. However, Onity is asking hotel owners to pay a nominal fee to help with the fix. Onity could face many financial hurtle through the recall of the 4 million door locks that need to be replaced. The security and safety of many travelers are at risk if this issue is not resolved. Companies such as Marriott International, Starwood Hotels and Hilton utilize Onity's key system across the globe (http://en.onity.com/companyprofile/Pages/Hotel-Resort-Worldwide-References.aspx). These companies won't be affected by the cost associated with the fix; however the small and independently owned and operated hotels will be affected. The question Brocious wrote on his blog and I also ask myself; how many hotels will refrain from properly fixing the issue? Are the major corporations such as Marriott and Starwood given each hotel a deadline to complete such project? Since neither company owns the properly, they simply operate the hotel, how much money and how quickly are owner willing to get this issue resolved?

    I found this article to be extremely interesting. It is from 1999, and is discussing the Genting hospitality management system. Having worked at hotels I know and understand the importance of having a property management system. The article states, "Genting is the first company to have developed a hospitality software in the country." The property management system can be incorporated into many different aspects of the hospitality industry: resorts, gaming, theme parks etc. Genting's managing director described the system explaining that that the software "customized to meet the needs of modern travelers". By using this PMS, hotels would be able to improve their customer service, meet the needs of modern travelers, and schedule maintenance more effectively. Not only will this PMS assist with better catering to the guests, but it will also provide a new source of revenue for Genting as they can sell the system worldwide. The article continues to discuss the amount of internet users being able to surpass the one million mark. It is difficult for me to remember a time when there was no internet as almost everything can be done online now. PMS play a very important role in the hospitality industry, especially when it comes to hotels. Fast forward five years and high speed internet, dvd players and docking stations began to make waves, out with the old and in with the new. Today, with a world filled with smartphones, sleek and slim TV and laptops, social media and WI-FI, staying connect is a must. Hotels are finding innovative ways to keep guest coming back. LCD, LED, HD, 4G are all acronyms that keep guest happy. From access their social media site, using keyless Wi-Fi door openers and having an apps makes a world of difference to tech savy guest, regardless of age. A recent hotel stay left me in speechless, I checked in using the app I downloaded to my phone, I customized my movie selection, orders my favorite snacks from the room service, used my phone to swipe into my room. Yea I was blown away by that fuzzy bar code scanner thingy, actually work. And be part of it all, I used didn't have to change the configurations on my laptop to access any of my favorite sites, I log into everything via a wireless keyboard and there it was 37in HD LCD screen updated me on the happening in my world. Technology, oh where we would we be without you?

    Being that we are in an age where social media can either make you or break you, I find that this Revinate software should be implementing in all Hotel businesses. One bad review from a dissatified customer on a social media site can cost an establishment future customers and revenue. The way this system works is that the software picks up all posts from major review sites and different social media sites , good or bad, and compiles them for key people in charge can review and respond to them. This way a negative comment directed at the establishment can be quickly defused and turned positive.
